Not all parks with barbecue in Rome and the surrounding area are alike: some include tables and grills in the ticket, others are reserves where you walk and eat on a lawn, and others are private areas you have to book. This guide covers eleven of them, with entry, access and limits taken from our listings. Where a practical detail is missing, we say so and point you to the listing or the official website. For the full list of green spaces, see the parks and villas page.

Parks with Barbecue in Rome: The Places at a Glance

Tables and barbecues are stated in the listings for Bosco di Paliano (FR), Collinetta Libera – Fosso della Cecchignola and Collebertone – Polino (TR). Oasi di San Valentino carries the picnic and barbecue tag, but you need to ask the operator about the conditions. Monte Catillo has an equipped picnic area at Fonte Bologna. The other places suit a day outdoors, with different rules in each case.

Parks with Barbecue in Rome Itself

Collinetta Libera – Fosso della Cecchignola

This is the place in the guide that best matches the search. It sits in the woods of Fosso della Cecchignola, south of Rome, between Via Ardeatina and Via Laurentina, in Municipio Roma IX. A raised clearing above the stream was cleaned up and equipped by a group of volunteers: small tables, benches, a barbecue and a wooden hut. Fosso della Cecchignola is a Natural Monument of the Lazio Region, managed by RomaNatura. There are no gates and no posted hours. Before you go, check the listing for the rules on using the grill.

Decima Malafede Nature Reserve

The reserve covers 6,145 hectares between southwest Rome and Pomezia and is the largest protected area managed by RomaNatura. The best-equipped entrance is at Via di Valle di Perna 315, where you will find Torre di Perna, the information point and parking. Entry is free, with no reservation and no closing hours on the trails. If you don’t have a car, get off at EUR Palasport on Metro line B and continue by bus; check the lines on the transit operator’s website. The listing’s tag mentions picnics and barbecues: see the listing for the areas where fires are allowed.

Parco Della Mistica

The entrance is on Via della Tenuta della Mistica, in east Rome, between Tor Sapienza, Tor Tre Teste and Torre Maura, close to the Grande Raccordo Anulare ring road. Access is free and no ticket is needed. Activities in the equipped area follow their own seasonal calendars and should be confirmed with the people who run them. The listing recommends water, a hat and closed shoes, because this is a piece of Roman countryside that has survived inside the city. The listing doesn’t mention barbecues, so if you want a grill, find out beforehand.

Circolo Sportivo Villa De Sanctis

This is a municipal sports center inside a public park, at Via dei Gordiani 5 in Municipio V, with a gate on Via Casilina between Torpignattara and Centocelle. Inside are clay tennis courts, five-a-side soccer fields, a soccer school and the outdoor pool, which is why many people know it in summer. The tag mentions picnics and barbecues, but the listing doesn’t describe the rules. For prices and conditions, check on site or on the official website.

Picnic and Barbecue Areas in Lazio Outside Rome

Bosco di Paliano (FR)

This is the clearest case among the parks with barbecue near Rome. It is in Contrada La Selva, in Paliano, in the province of Frosinone, a few kilometers from the Colleferro exit on the A1. Admission is €6 full price and €4 reduced, for children under twelve and over-70s; a seasonal pass is also available. The ticket includes the use of picnic tables and barbecues, which you should reserve if you want a guaranteed spot. Buy online to avoid the line. The park isn’t open year-round: the season runs from spring to autumn, with weekends at its core. Phone: 370 1533848.

Monte Catillo Nature Reserve

The reserve is in Tivoli, on the hills that close off the Roman countryside to the east. Entry is free, the trails are open year-round from dawn to dusk, and you don’t need to book. From Rome it takes a little under an hour: the FL2 train from Roma Tiburtina to Tivoli, a COTRAL bus, or a car via Via Tiburtina or the A24. The two most convenient entrances are Colle Ripoli and the Fonte Bologna area, where there is an equipped picnic area. The protected area’s office can be reached at 0774 453634.

Oriolo Romano Beech Forest

This is a forest of ancient beech trees, known as the Monte Raschio beech forest, in the Bracciano Martignano Regional Natural Park, in the province of Viterbo. Access is free, with no ticket office and no reservation. From the town center, Piazza Umberto I, it takes about ten minutes by car or half an hour on foot. From Rome you take Via Braccianese Claudia: a little under sixty kilometers from the ring road, a full hour or more in normal traffic. By train, the Oriolo station is on the FL3, but you then have to walk, so plan on a full day.

Oasi di San Valentino

This is a private equipped area in the Gricilli locality of Pontinia, in the province of Latina, at the foot of the Lepini mountains. Open-air sulfur water pools open off the lawn; it is not a spa facility. The name is misleading: it is not a nature oasis run by a public body. The tag mentions picnics and barbecues. Prices and grill rules are not in the text we have, so check them on the official website.

VoloAlto Nature Park

This is a private countryside park northwest of Rome, between Boccea, Santa Maria di Galeria and Osteria Nuova. Founded in 2015, it brings together aviaries, a vegetable garden, a farm and educational activities on about two hectares, according to the operators. It is neither a reserve nor a zoo. You get there by car and enter by reservation, because the activities are organized for groups, school classes, families and private parties. It is the choice for a kids’ birthday, not for an improvised cookout.

Outside the Region: Tuscany and Umbria

Collebertone – Polino (TR)

Collebertone is a grassy plateau above Polino, in the province of Terni, at about 1,200 meters. Polino sits at 836 meters and has just over two hundred residents. There are high-altitude meadows, a beech forest, wooden tables and spaces for picnics and grilling. There are no ticket offices or turnstiles. Plan this day trip carefully, because the listing describes a mountain location.

Lake Burano (GR) – WWF Oasis

The visitor center is at Strada Provinciale Litoranea del Chiarone 35, in Capalbio Scalo, in the province of Grosseto. The Rome–Pisa train stops at Capalbio Scalo, and you walk from the station. You can enter the reserve only on a WWF guided visit, and reservations are required. Hours change by season: from June to September the center is open every day with two shifts, and the rest of the year mainly on weekends. The tag mentions picnics and barbecues, but you need to ask the WWF about the rules.

Parties and Birthdays Indoors or at Equipped Venues

If you don’t need a lawn for your party, these venues in our guide host private events. Always ask the owners about conditions.

How to Choose Among Parks with Barbecue in Rome

Start with three practical questions: how far you want to travel, who is coming with you, and whether the grill is essential. For a sure barbecue, choose among Paliano, Collinetta Libera and Collebertone. For a free day with no reservation, Decima Malafede, Monte Catillo and the beech forest at Oriolo Romano work well. For an organized party with a reservation, look at VoloAlto or the private venues.
