A comedian born in Albania and raised in the Veneto, an economist who left his job to write, a screenwriter who has worked with Francesca Archibugi, and a show named after the soccer comeback to talk about defeats. In a former neighborhood movie theater that has just reopened, in San Lorenzo, on a December evening.

Xhuliano Dule at Palazzo San Lorenzo: date, times and tickets

Xhuliano Dule's «Remuntada» is on stage at Palazzo San Lorenzo on Thursday, December 10, 2026, starting at 21:00 with doors opening at 20:30. It's a single date in Rome, for an adult audience.

The times

The end is listed at 22:30: an hour and a half of show. With doors opening half an hour before and unreserved seating, if you want to choose where to sit, it's a good idea to arrive early.

Stalls or gallery

There are two types of tickets. General seating in the stalls costs 18.91 euros plus 2.83 euros presale fee, in the gallery 15.20 euros plus 2.28 euros. In both cases seats are unassigned.

Who organizes it

The evening is organized by Di Live S.r.l. The show is among the comedy productions of Altra Scena, the agency that represents Dule, whose official page collects his biography and tour dates.

«Remuntada»: what the show is about

«Remuntada» is Xhuliano Dule's third comedy show. The official presentation describes it as the parable of the victories and defeats of a loser, an outsider and an outcast: a life spent trying to come back.

The comeback

The title comes from soccer vocabulary: the remuntada is the impossible comeback, the match turned around when all seemed lost. Dule turns it on its head. Winning, the presentation warns, isn't always good for you, and sometimes knowing how to lose is the greatest liberation.

Pyrrhus

The key character is Pyrrhus, whom the show jokingly claims as «the heroic Albanian king of the elephants»: he won all his battles against the Romans, but in the end lost the war. The Pyrrhic victory, which became proverbial, is the thread that links ancient history to the author's biography and to the Roman audience listening to him.

Auteur comedy

Dule comes from writing for theater and film, and his stand-up grows out of that: monologues built like stories, in which personal experience, Albania, the Veneto, the job he left behind, intertwines with history and politics. It's a comedy that asks for attention, in our view closer to narrative theater than to the quick gag.

Why go

In our view «Remuntada» is a good opportunity for those looking for stand-up different from the TV kind: an author who comes from theater and screenwriting, a theme that holds together soccer, ancient history and the migrant experience, a self-deprecating tone that never slips into victimhood. The small hall and unreserved seating add the closeness this genre calls for. If you love comedy that also makes you think, you'll find plenty to enjoy. If you're only after the quick gag, you may find it less immediate.

Who Xhuliano Dule is

Xhuliano Dule is a comedian, playwright and screenwriter born in Albania who came to Italy as a child with his parents, grew up in the Veneto, and left a career in economics to devote himself to writing.

From economics to writing

In the biography published by his agency, Dule says he studied economics, a path that led him to work for international organizations, while in his free time he wrote a lot and published little. Until one day he handed in his resignation, «very well written», and decided to devote himself to writing: he applied to the Screenwriting Master's at the Accademia Silvio d'Amico and started performing as a stand-up comedian.

Theater

His first comedy show is «Un Albanese Asintomatico», with which he won the «Officine Teatrali» prize, run by the Accademia Silvio D'Amico, a couple of times. In the theater he found his mentor in Edoardo Erba. His play «I mostri che abbiamo dentro vanno registrati all'anagrafe» received a mention from Fabulamundi, and with «L'ultimo spettacolo di Werner Finck: ma di che cosa ride un nazista?» he reached the final of the Roma Fringe Festival 2023.

Laughing at power

The titles of his plays already say a lot about his writing. «I mostri che abbiamo dentro vanno registrati all'anagrafe», the monsters inside us must be registered at the records office, stages, through a bureaucratic paradox, what is usually hidden. «L'ultimo spettacolo di Werner Finck: ma di che cosa ride un nazista?», what does a Nazi laugh at, asks an uncomfortable question about the relationship between comedy and dictatorship. It's the same gaze that runs through «Remuntada»: laughter as a tool to look at history from the side of the defeated, and at power from the side of those who suffer it.

Film and television

In film he trained with Francesca Archibugi: he was her assistant on the set of the film «Il colibrì», historical consultant for the series «La Storia», based on Elsa Morante's novel and directed by Archibugi for Rai, and screenplay consultant for Maria Sole Tognazzi's film «Dieci minuti». In his official biography he also mentions a collaboration on a series project with Paolo Virzì.

The eternal runner-up

Two of his original screenplays reached the final in screenwriting competitions: the Luciano Vincenzoni prize in Treviso and the «Notorious Project» prize at the Rome Film Fest. In both cases they came second. Being the eternal runner-up, Dule writes with self-irony, is the leitmotif of his existence: from here to Pyrrhus, and to «Remuntada», is a short step.

A curious fact about Xhuliano Dule, Remuntada at Palazzo San Lorenzo, December 10, 2026

The curious fact is that the show comes from an inverted idea of national identity. In his biography Dule writes that losing with style seems to be a sentence that falls to the Albanian people, and he offers Pyrrhus himself as proof, the king tradition remembers for the famous line «another victory like this and I'll lose the war». A line that, he adds, perfectly represents his life as an author.

The second curious fact concerns the scale of the project. On the agency's page the show is announced as a European tour: the Rome evening is one stop on a circuit that brings the comedy of an author who is Albanian and Italian at once to different audiences. That one of the stops falls in Rome, the city that defeated Pyrrhus, is the part of the story Piazza dei Sanniti audience will appreciate most.

The third is geographical, and concerns the place. Piazza dei Sanniti is named after an Italic people who fought long against Rome: an 1887 resolution gave the streets of San Lorenzo the names of the peoples Rome had subjugated. A show about Pyrrhus, an enemy of Rome who won the battles and lost the wars, in a square named after other illustrious losers: the street names seem written on purpose.

Palazzo San Lorenzo, the show's venue

Palazzo San Lorenzo is the former Cinema Palazzo on Piazza dei Sanniti, opened in 1931, damaged by the 1943 bombing, occupied in 2011 as Nuovo Cinema Palazzo, cleared in 2020 and reopened in the spring of 2026 as a venue for film, theater and concerts.

The 1931 movie theater

Cinema Palazzo opened in 1931, in the years when San Lorenzo was changing face with the construction of the nearby university city. The 1943 bombing damaged it. The building was rebuilt and went through several transformations, until it was abandoned in the 1990s.

Nuovo Cinema Palazzo

In 2011 an occupation turned the hall into Nuovo Cinema Palazzo, a participatory cultural workshop that mobilized residents, artists and activists against the risk of commercial conversion. For almost a decade it was an outpost of independent, if illegal, cultural production, until it was cleared in 2020.

The reopening

The relaunch began at the end of January 2024, with Davide Dose among the protagonists and with the involvement of Alcazar Live, the Trastevere club. The official inauguration of Palazzo San Lorenzo took place on Sunday, April 19, 2026. The film program is entrusted to the ArteSettima collective, with retrospectives, event screenings and meetings with directors and guests. Alongside film, the hall hosts concerts, theater shows and comedy nights like Dule's. For a neighborhood that saw the hall closed for years, the reopening was an event: opinion on the transformation is divided among those who remember Nuovo Cinema Palazzo, but the hall is open to the public every day again.

What it's like today

The venue presents itself as a hybrid cultural space where different languages meet: film, theater, listening bar, concerts, study room, talks and workshops. The website gives daily opening hours from 10:00 to 2:00 at night: by day people study, in the evening there are screenings, music and laughs. The phone is 06 76062080, the email info@palazzosanlorenzo.org. Roma Capitale's tourism portal describes it as a multipurpose space, with a bar dedicated to listening to music in high fidelity: it's the same listening bar where, on the evening of the show, you wait for the start. The formula picks up, in our view intelligently, the neighborhood vocation the hall has always had: a place you go into even without a ticket, to study, have a drink, meet someone.

Something nobody tells you about Xhuliano Dule, Remuntada at Palazzo San Lorenzo, December 10, 2026

What few people say is that seats aren't numbered, in either the stalls or the gallery. In a hall like this it means whoever arrives when the doors open, at 20:30, gets to choose, and whoever arrives at 21:00 takes what's left. For stand-up, where contact with the person on stage is part of the show, being in the front rows changes the experience, and it also changes the risk of being drawn in.

The second thing is that the gallery costs less and isn't necessarily worse. A monologue doesn't need a perfect view of the stage: what matters is hearing well and seeing the face. If you'd rather watch without being called on, you can choose the gallery and save a few euros.

The third is that San Lorenzo, a university neighborhood, comes alive early in the evening even on weekdays. The streets around Piazza dei Sanniti fill up early, the tables of the bars and restaurants fill up, the evening trams are crowded. It's best to arrive early, perhaps on foot from Termini.

My advice for visiting Xhuliano Dule, Remuntada at Palazzo San Lorenzo, December 10, 2026

The advice is to arrive in Piazza dei Sanniti around 20:15, go in when the doors open and have a drink at the listening bar before the show: the hall deserves to be seen calmly, and the best seats go to those who arrive first.

Second: arrive knowing something about Pyrrhus and his victory. You don't need a review of ancient history, just the line that made him proverbial, but comedy that plays with history works better if the audience gets the references.

Third: if you don't have to work early the next day, stay in San Lorenzo after the show. The neighborhood stays open late, and the walk back to Termini, under the Walls, takes 20 minutes. If you prefer, trams 3 and 19 leave from the neighborhood.

San Lorenzo: the show's neighborhood

San Lorenzo is the neighborhood between the Aurelian Walls, at Porta Tiburtina, and the Verano cemetery. Born at the end of the 19th century as a working-class and railroad neighborhood, today it's Rome's university neighborhood par excellence.

The name

The neighborhood takes its name from the basilica of San Lorenzo fuori le mura, built over the tomb of the martyr Lawrence, a few minutes from Piazza dei Sanniti. The first basilica was commissioned by Constantine. Next to it is the Verano, the city's great monumental cemetery: two places that give the neighborhood a historical depth far older than its late 19th-century houses.

Workers and railroad men

The freight yard opened in 1865 and the steam tramway to Tivoli, from 1879, brought railroad workers and laborers here, and between 1884 and 1888 housing went up for their families. In 1887 a resolution gave the streets the names of the Italic peoples: the Volsci, the Sabelli, the Ausoni, the Sanniti, the Equi.

Montessori and the university city

In 1907 Maria Montessori opened her first Casa dei Bambini in San Lorenzo. In the 1930s, right next to the neighborhood, Marcello Piacentini designed the Sapienza university city, built from 1933. Since then San Lorenzo has lived to the rhythm of its students.

A long political history

The neighborhood has known the Arditi del Popolo in the early 1920s, the Fascist squad attack of October 30, 1922, and the offices of the 1970s movements on Via dei Volsci, Via dei Piceni and Via dei Marrucini. The story of Cinema Palazzo is a recent chapter of it. A few steps from the hall is the Palestra Popolare San Lorenzo, another symbolic place.

Today

Since the 1980s San Lorenzo has become the neighborhood of students, artists and nightlife. The former Pastificio Cerere houses artists' studios and a contemporary art center, and on Via dei Latini is the Matèria gallery, opened in 2015 and devoted to contemporary art. It's in this fabric, made of university, art and nightlife, that the reopening of Cinema Palazzo fits.

How to get to Palazzo San Lorenzo

Palazzo San Lorenzo is at Piazza dei Sanniti 9/a and is reached on trams 3 and 19 or on foot from Termini station, in about 20 minutes by way of Porta Tiburtina.

By tram

Trams 3 and 19 cross San Lorenzo. The 19 connects the neighborhood with the Policlinico and Villa Borghese in one direction and Porta Maggiore in the other, the 3 with San Giovanni and the Colosseum. If you're coming from Flaminio, Parioli or the museums on Viale delle Belle Arti, the 19 is the most convenient option, with no changes.

On foot from Termini

From Termini station, served by Metro A and B and by trains, you reach Porta Tiburtina, pass under the Aurelian Walls and enter San Lorenzo. From there to Piazza dei Sanniti it's a few minutes.

By car and getting back

San Lorenzo is a neighborhood of narrow streets and scarce parking, especially in the evening: better to leave the car at home. On the way back, if you come out late you can walk back to Termini, where there are taxis and night lines. Times can be checked on the transit company's website.

How to plan your Remuntada evening

For «Remuntada» at Palazzo San Lorenzo, the evening is built around three times: 20:30, when the doors open, 21:00, when the show starts, and 22:30, when it's listed to end.

Before the show

If you want to have dinner before, you have a window between 19:00 and 20:15, in the trattorias and pizzerias in the streets around Piazza dei Sanniti. If you'd rather arrive light, you can have something at the hall's listening bar after the doors open, and pick your seat in the meantime.

Stalls or gallery: how to choose

The stalls cost a few euros more and put you closer to the stage: if you love a direct relationship with the comedian and aren't afraid of being called on, it's the natural choice. The gallery costs less and offers a view from above, more detached: it's the choice for those who want to enjoy the monologues without exposing themselves. Either way, since seats aren't numbered, your arrival time counts.

After the show

At 22:30 San Lorenzo is in full swing. If you feel like staying, you'll find bars and clubs on every corner. If you have to get home, you can take the tram or walk back to Termini. On a Thursday in December, in our view, the after-show in the neighborhood is as much part of the experience as the show itself.

Another well-known fact, yet rarely mentioned

It's well known that San Lorenzo was hit by the first Allied bombing of Rome, on July 19, 1943. The time and the scale are less often remembered: the bombs fell from 11:03, dropped by a formation of 662 bombers, and the toll was about 3,000 dead. That day Pope Pius XII left the Vatican and visited the neighborhood, a gesture that has remained in collective memory.

Cinema Palazzo, opened 12 years earlier, was among the buildings damaged. It was rebuilt, and the hall that hosts «Remuntada» carries that scar within it. In 2003, for the 60th anniversary, a monument with 1,674 names of victims was inaugurated in the Parco dei Caduti del July 19, 1943.

Francesco De Gregori's song «San Lorenzo» is also inspired by that bombing: a fact known to fans, less so to those passing through the neighborhood in the evening. Walking toward Piazza dei Sanniti, between rebuilt houses and houses that survived, history can still be read on the facades.

The right photo to take at Xhuliano Dule, Remuntada at Palazzo San Lorenzo, December 10, 2026

The right photo is taken outside, before going in: the facade of the former Cinema Palazzo on Piazza dei Sanniti, in the evening, with the signs lit and the square full of people. At 20:30 in December it's been dark for a while, and the hall's lights are the one fixed point in a neighborhood on the move.

Inside, during the show, your phone stays in your pocket: in our view the rhythm of a monologue breaks with a lit screen in the front row, and the person on stage sees it. If you want a memento, the right shot is the empty stage with the microphone on its stand, before the lights go down.

A second photo can be taken beforehand, on the way from Termini: Porta Tiburtina with the Walls, lit up, is the entrance to San Lorenzo and the image that best conveys the passage from the monumental city to the neighborhood.

Some important events that happened here in history

The history of Piazza dei Sanniti coincides with that of San Lorenzo. In 1887 a resolution gave the streets of the new working-class neighborhood the names of the Italic peoples, in 1907 Maria Montessori opened the first Casa dei Bambini here, and in 1909 Nathan's master plan redesigned the area.

In 1921 and 1922 the neighborhood was a stronghold of the Arditi del Popolo, and on October 30, 1922, in the days of the March on Rome, a Fascist squad attack left eight dead. In 1931 Cinema Palazzo opened, and from 1933 Piacentini's university city took shape right next to San Lorenzo.

On July 19, 1943, the first Allied bombing of Rome devastated the neighborhood and damaged the movie theater. In the 1970s Via dei Volsci and the nearby streets housed the offices of political movements. In 2011 Cinema Palazzo, abandoned since the 1990s, was occupied and became Nuovo Cinema Palazzo, and in 2020 it was cleared. On April 19, 2026 the hall was inaugurated again as Palazzo San Lorenzo, and since then it has alternated film, concerts and comedy.

Who has passed through Xhuliano Dule, Remuntada at Palazzo San Lorenzo, December 10, 2026

Figures who marked the 20th century have passed through San Lorenzo: Maria Montessori, who founded her first Casa dei Bambini here, Marcello Piacentini, who built the university city next to it, and Pius XII, who arrived among the rubble on July 19, 1943. The neighborhood also remembers Gaetano Bordoni, a barber, whose shop has become a house of memory for San Lorenzo.

In the years of Nuovo Cinema Palazzo, artists, activists and residents who made it a cultural workshop passed through the hall, and since the 2026 reopening, directors, actors and musicians invited by the program. In October the hall hosted, among other things, the Four Flies label showcase for the MArteLive Biennale.

On December 10 Xhuliano Dule comes through, with baggage that includes the Accademia Silvio d'Amico, Edoardo Erba, Francesca Archibugi, the Roma Fringe Festival and the Rome Film Fest: an author who built his second life in Rome, and who brings his third show here.

What to see around Palazzo San Lorenzo

Around Palazzo San Lorenzo are the Verano, the basilica of San Lorenzo fuori le mura, Porta Tiburtina and the university city, all a few minutes away on foot.

The Verano and the basilica

The Verano cemetery is Rome's great monumental cemetery, an open-air museum of 19th and 20th-century sculpture. Next to it, the basilica of San Lorenzo fuori le mura stands over the tomb of the martyr Lawrence, who gives the neighborhood its name.

Porta Tiburtina

Porta Tiburtina was born as an arch of Augustus, built to carry the aqueducts over the road, and was later incorporated into the Aurelian Walls. If you arrive on foot from Termini, it's the natural threshold of the neighborhood: in the evening, lit up, it marks the passage from the monumental city to the university one.

La Sapienza and Porta Maggiore

Inside the university city is the Sapienza Contemporary Art Laboratory Museum. On tram 19, in a few minutes, you reach Porta Maggiore, where the Aqua Claudia and Anio Novus aqueducts cross over Via Prenestina and Via Labicana.

Where to eat before the show

San Lorenzo has a wide choice at generally low prices: pizzerias, Roman trattorias, osterias, student hangouts, wine bars and cafés, concentrated in the streets around Piazza dei Sanniti, Via dei Volsci and Via degli Ausoni.

Inside the hall

Palazzo San Lorenzo has its own listening bar, the simplest option for a drink between the doors opening and the start.

In the neighborhood

With a 21:00 start, it's best to have dinner around 19:30 or after the show, when many places in the neighborhood are still open. In December, with pre-Christmas dinners, it's better to book.

After the show

At 22:30 many kitchens in the neighborhood are still open, and in this area many places keep their kitchens going well past 22:00. If you had dinner early, the bars and wine bars around Via dei Volsci are the place to talk over the show.

Accessibility and audience

The show is for adults only. For information on access for people with reduced mobility, it's best to contact the venue directly, at 06 76062080: the building is a renovated historic movie theater, and the unreserved seating makes it useful to arrange things beforehand.

An adult audience

The age limit says something about the tone: comedy that talks about identity, politics and history without filters. For an audience that loves auteur stand-up, and for anyone who wants to discover a comedian who comes from playwriting, it's a suitable evening.

A December evening in San Lorenzo

A December evening in San Lorenzo, among students and bars, is a way of seeing Rome far from the Christmas lights of the center. For the city's other offerings in the holiday weeks, there's our page on Christmas in Rome. The evenings are cool and the walk back to Termini is outdoors: a coat and a folding umbrella are useful.
