“Cerco solo divertimento” (I'm just looking for fun) is Simonetta Musitano's second stand-up comedy show. After the success of “Una donna con le palle”, the comedian is back on stage with a show in which she describes herself as the black sheep of the family but above all as the black sheep in social settings for what she is and what she represents: trans, left-wing, vegan, a southerner! In short, absolute evil!
Simonetta starts from herself to take apart, with sarcasm and self-irony, the contemporary obsession with competition, performance and emotional hyper-independence. From job interviews lived as survival tests, to the difficulty of finding your place in competitive environments, from sports to pilates, taken up more out of desperation than vocation. The story moves among physical frailties, inherited anxieties and social expectations impossible to meet.
Between sex with men lacking any sexual and emotional education and dates that fail under the weight of the rhetoric of emotional detachment, ’“I'm fine on my own, I'm starting over from me", and indeed "I'm just looking for fun", the show takes apart the dominant narrative of emotional self-sufficiency, claiming the almost revolutionary desire for a stable relationship.
Getting to know yourself, loving yourself, understanding yourself and becoming self-aware is not a lonely and self-excluding journey, but a collective path where we suffer together. So there's also a send-up of the stereotypes about therapy, between Freud and the obsession with parental figures raised on mainstream TV, emotional literacy and fear of therapy, and seen by Freud as the cause of all our troubles, all the way to social media psychology and recycled motivational quotes."
