Four middle-aged men, a forced cohabitation already lived years earlier, a wife vanished into thin air and no woman on stage: Scappati di casa is the sequel to Casalinghi disperati, a comedy that has toured Italian theaters since 2008. Below are the dates, plot, authors, direction and cast, the story of the first chapter, the theater in Ostia, how to get there and how to organize a day on the coast in late winter.

Scappati di casa at Teatro Nino Manfredi: dates, times and prices

Scappati di casa is on stage at Teatro Nino Manfredi from February 25 to March 7, 2027, with nine performances spread over two long weekends, Thursday to Sunday. It is one of the subscription titles of the season at the Ostia theater run by Felice Della Corte.

The calendar for the first week

Thursday, February 25 at 21:00, Friday, February 26 at 21:00, Saturday, February 27 at 21:00 and Sunday, February 28 at 17:30. Three evening shows and one afternoon show: the opening week is the best fit for those who prefer the evening.

The calendar for the second week

Thursday, March 4 at 17:30, Friday, March 5 at 21:00, Saturday, March 6 with two performances at 17:30 and at 21:00, Sunday, March 7 at 17:30, the last show. Here the balance flips: three afternoon shows out of five.

The prices

Full price €25, reduced €23, under-25s €12. For those organizing with friends, colleagues or a club, the theater applies €17 per person starting from 15 people: a formula that makes a lot of sense for a light comedy like this one.

On subscription

The theater lists the show as included in the subscription: season subscribers already have their seats, and for those buying a single ticket the weekend evenings are the ones that fill up first.

The plot of Scappati di casa: four househusbands under the same roof again

Scappati di casa picks up the domestic misadventures of the four middle-aged desperate househusbands of the first chapter: after years spent telling each other they were grown up and fulfilled, they find themselves together because Silvana, Roberto's ex-wife, mysteriously disappears.

The starting point

After the forced cohabitation of the first chapter, the four protagonists seem to have gone separate ways, or so they say. The presentation by Teatro Nino Manfredi is merciless: their reality is made of romantic relationships shipwrecked before even setting sail, precarious jobs and a general inability to manage daily life. A disaster, to use the theater's words, more sophisticated than before.

Silvana's disappearance

Silvana's disappearance forces the four to meet again in the new home of one of them. Each arrives convinced he has changed, improved, evolved, and tries to prove it to the others. The plot unfolds in a series of attempts to find the woman, attempts that regularly come to nothing and that generate a domino effect of misunderstandings and ever more surreal situations.

Poker, beer and Sergio Leone-style duels

Under the avalanche of gags, the theme of the first chapter resurfaces: growing up is hard, especially if you have stayed immature despite your age. The theater cites nighttime confessions during improbable poker games, jealousies that spill into western duels inspired by Sergio Leone's films, moments of friendship that show up in front of yet another opened beer.

The meaning of the comedy

In the end, according to the official presentation, the four learn that the real achievement is not proving something to others but managing to get by even in solitude. The pace is relentless, the lines are sharp and the irony spares no one: the show turns everyday failure into a celebration of imperfection.

The four protagonists of Scappati di casa and their performers

In Scappati di casa the cast is Giancarlo Fares, Andrea Catarinozzi, Valerio Giombetti and Stefano Tomassini: four actors for four men in crisis, in an all-male comedy. The review by Manuela Minelli published by Fiumicino Online on February 25, 2026, after the Rome debut, describes the roles precisely.

Giancarlo Fares

The review calls Fares the great protagonist of the quartet and describes him in an unusual guise: a romantic and poetic gay man, with a misstep along the way that the comedy reveals by surprise. He is the character who brings the most sentimental note into the story.

Andrea Catarinozzi

Catarinozzi is the host who, despite himself, finds himself welcoming his friends. Consumed by anxiety, he is also under investigation for his wife's disappearance: the engine of the comic whodunit that holds up the whole plot.

Stefano Tomassini

Tomassini plays a loutish lifeguard and womanizer, a collector of improbable adventures. In Ostia, a few steps from the beach clubs on the waterfront, the character will have an audience that knows the type well.

Valerio Giombetti

Giombetti is a confused and depressed office worker, the most withdrawn of the four. The review leaves one of his final revelations hanging, and it's best to leave it hanging here too.

From Casalinghi disperati to Scappati di casa: the story of the first chapter

Casalinghi disperati, the first chapter written by Cinzia Berni and Guido Polito, is a comedy performed with success since 2008: four men who for a period of their lives shared a house provided by the municipality for destitute men. The summary is the one published by Teatro de' Servi in Rome for the 2025/2026 season.

The municipality's house

In the first text the four share, with irony and disenchantment, happy moments and dark moments, then each begins a new life. It is the classic situation of the cohabitation comedy, flipped to the male side: shopping, cleaning and preparing meals become a battlefield for men who have never dealt with them.

Many companies, many performers

In almost 20 years the text has had several stagings. Among them are remembered a production directed by Renato Giordano with Roberto D'Alessandro in the cast and one directed by Diego Ruiz between 2018 and 2021, with Max Pisu, Danilo Brugia and Gianni Ferreri. The 2026 review credits Nicola Pistoia with directing a successful Casalinghi disperati, before this sequel.

A natural sequel

The Fiumicino Online review calls Scappati di casa the natural sequel to the first text: the same characters, a few years older, the same money problems made worse by age, and again a cohabitation under the same roof to avoid sleeping in the car.

Cinzia Berni, Guido Polito and the direction of Nicola Pistoia

The text of Scappati di casa is signed by Cinzia Berni and Guido Polito, the same pair of authors as Casalinghi disperati. The direction is by Nicola Pistoia, a Roman actor and director born on March 31, 1954.

A pair of authors

With the two texts, Berni and Polito built a small comic saga, recognizable for the choice of staging only men and making women count through their absence. It is writing designed for the stage and for actors, with quick dialogue and situations that fit into one another.

Nicola Pistoia the actor

Pistoia began acting in the late 1970s in the cinema of the commedia all'italiana. The films cited in his biography include Piccoli equivoci by Ricky Tognazzi, Quattro bravi ragazzi with Michele Placido, In questo mondo di ladri by Carlo Vanzina, Viva l'Italia and Ritorno al crimine by Massimiliano Bruno, Tiramisù by Fabio De Luigi. On television he was in Caro maestro with Marco Columbro and Elena Sofia Ricci, in Finalmente soli with Gerry Scotti and Maria Amelia Monti, in the miniseries Giovanni Paolo II.

Nicola Pistoia the director

In 2001 he directed with Pino Ammendola the film Stregati dalla luna, in which Maurizio Casagrande also acted. In theater he was among the leads of Uomini sull'orlo di una crisi di nervi in 1993 and, from 2010, of Ben Hur, una storia di ordinaria periferia, which he also directed. He is the co-author, with Max Tortora, of Bumbuazi. The ensemble male comedy, with four or five men grappling with their own failures, is a territory he has known for 30 years.

The Compagnia La Bilancia

The show is produced by the Compagnia La Bilancia, listed by Teatro de' Servi as La Bilancia Produzioni. The same four-actor cast brought the text first to Milan and other cities, then to Rome.

A curiosity about Scappati di casa, il ritorno dei casalinghi disperati at Teatro Nino Manfredi, from February 25 to March 7, 2027

The tastiest curiosity concerns a name. In the review of the Rome debut, Manuela Minelli writes that the comedy combines an entirely Roman cynicism and irony, and puts a Latin formula in parentheses: Rugantino docet. Rugantino, the Roman bully of Garinei and Giovannini, had Nino Manfredi himself as its lead in 1962, alongside Aldo Fabrizi and Bice Valori, with a tour that reached the United States. Bringing to Ostia a comedy compared to Rugantino, in the theater named after the actor who played him, is a coincidence worth noting. A second curiosity concerns the female cast, which does not exist. There isn't even one woman on stage, yet the same review maintains that the real protagonists are them: evoked, misunderstood, loved and hated, and above all Silvana, whose fate the audience discovers only at the end. It is a writing choice that runs through both of Berni and Polito's texts, and that Teatro de' Servi summed up with a precise formula: an all-male story in which women are protagonists even when they aren't there. A third curiosity is geographical. One of the four characters is a loutish lifeguard and womanizer. Teatro Nino Manfredi is in Ostia Lido, a short distance from the waterfront and the beach clubs. Few Roman theaters can offer a character like that such a competent audience.

Teatro Nino Manfredi in Ostia: the hall

Teatro Nino Manfredi is a 288-seat drama theater at Via dei Pallottini 10, in Ostia Lido, born from a former movie theater that Felice Della Corte and four partners took over in December 2004 and turned into a drama hall, opened on September 30, 2005.

A theater born from a group of theater people

Della Corte, a Neapolitan, trained as an actor and then as a director in Eduardo's theater. Together with Luciano, Enzo, Paolo and Salvatore he put back on its feet a movie theater in Ostia that was in poor condition. In 2015 the same experience gave birth to Teatro Marconi, in Rome, and in 2019 Della Corte was elected president of the Unione dei Teatri di Roma, the association of private theaters that he helped found.

The name

The theater bears the name of Nino Manfredi, who died in Rome on June 4, 2004, a few months before the project began. It is not a theater founded by the actor's family: it is a private hall that chose that name as a statement of poetics, and at the opening night Erminia Ferrari, Manfredi's widow, was in the audience.

The programming

The Manfredi offers a subscription drama season, shows for children and teenagers, matinées for schools and a theater school, and has its own app for Android and iOS. The declared line draws on the definition Manfredi gave of himself: a dramatic actor who acts with irony.

The size of the hall

With 288 seats it is a medium-sized theater: large enough for a real season, intimate enough that even from the last rows you catch the expressions. For a comedy of one-liners and comic timing like Scappati di casa it is an ideal size.

Something nobody tells you about Scappati di casa, il ritorno dei casalinghi disperati at Teatro Nino Manfredi, from February 25 to March 7, 2027

What is rarely said about a comedy like this is that, told another way, it would be a drama. The review of the Rome debut itself notes it: four men in an identity crisis, aged, with money problems made worse by age, unresolved resentments, a dependence on beer and an inability to manage wives, children and new relationships, forced to live together so as not to sleep in the car. Material for civic theater, treated with the rhythm of farce. Those who arrive knowing it laugh just the same, and also catch the bitter undertone that makes the jokes work. The second thing concerns the text you are going to see. It is not necessary to know Casalinghi disperati: the presentation by the theater and the one by Teatro de' Servi sum up the backstory in a few lines, and the comedy recalls it enough. Those who saw the first chapter find the same human types aged a few years, those who didn't enter the story anyway from the first scene. The third thing is practical and concerns the calendar. The second week has three afternoon shows out of five performances, including the one on Thursday, March 4 at 17:30, which has no evening performance: anyone planning to go that evening has to choose another date. For those coming from Rome by train, the 17:30 performances are also the most convenient for the return.

How to get to Teatro Nino Manfredi in Ostia

Teatro Nino Manfredi, at Via dei Pallottini 10 in Ostia Lido, is reached by the Roma Lido railway to Lido Centro station, about 250 meters as the crow flies from the hall.

By the Roma Lido railway

The railway leaves from Porta San Paolo station, next to the Piramide stop of metro line B. From Termini you take metro line B to Piramide, change, and get off at Lido Centro. For the 21:00 performances it's best to check beforehand the time of the last train back, which is the real variable of the evening.

By bus

Ostia is served by city lines that connect the Roma Lido stations with the coastal neighborhoods. Updated routes and times are on the ATAC route planner, which is worth checking the same day.

By car

The neighborhood around Via dei Pallottini is residential. In late February and early March, away from the beach season, parking on the streets of Ostia Lido is generally less complicated than in the central neighborhoods of Rome. If you come by car with other people, you can let them out in front of the entrance before looking for a spot.

Tickets for Scappati di casa

Tickets for Scappati di casa at Teatro Nino Manfredi are bought on the theater's official website, which links to the authorized presale circuit, or at the box office.

Contacts

The box office answers at 06 56324849 and at info@teatroninomanfredi.it. The theater also lists the number 388 0736402, reachable on WhatsApp too, for information.

Which price to choose

Full price €25, reduced €23, under-25s €12, €17 per person for 15 people or more. The conditions for the reduced price are indicated by the theater: it's best to ask at the box office before buying.

When to buy

The review of the debut at Teatro de' Servi, in February 2026, noted nearly sold-out seats in Rome too after the sellout in Milan. For Saturday evenings and for the double performance on March 6, my advice is not to wait for the last week.

The advice I give you for visiting Scappati di casa, il ritorno dei casalinghi disperati at Teatro Nino Manfredi, from February 25 to March 7, 2027

My advice is to treat Scappati di casa as the pretext for a day trip without leaving Rome. In late February the Ostia waterfront is almost empty, the afternoon light is low and clear, and a walk by the sea before an afternoon show is worth the train ride on its own. In our view the best date is Sunday, February 28 at 17:30: lunch on the coast, a walk, theater, back to Rome for dinner. Those who prefer the evening choose Saturday, February 27 at 21:00 or Friday, March 5, checking the time of the last train first. For light comedies the company matters: it's best to go with friends or relatives, because the laughter in the hall feeds on itself, and with 15 people the price drops to €17 each. Those under 25 pay €12, one of the best-value prices of the season. Once there, the central rows of the stalls are the best for a comedy of glances and comic timing. In a 288-seat hall, though, you see well almost everywhere. Finally, a tip on method: better not to look up in advance what became of Silvana. The comedy is built to reveal it only at the end, and the fun is all there.

Another well-known fact, yet rarely mentioned

It's well known that Nino Manfredi was one of the greats of the commedia all'italiana, and the Ostia theater that bears his name keeps his memory. It is much less remembered that his training was entirely in theater and drama. Born in Castro dei Volsci on March 22, 1921 and raised in Rome in the San Giovanni district, he graduated in law in 1945 and earned his diploma from the Accademia d'arte drammatica in 1947. He debuted at Teatro Piccolo di Roma with his teacher Orazio Costa and in the 1948 and 1949 season worked at the Piccolo Teatro di Milano with Giorgio Strehler. In the 1952 and 1953 season he acted with Eduardo De Filippo at the Eliseo. Also little cited is how he came to the stage: in 1937, hospitalized in a sanatorium for tuberculosis, he saw the company of Vittorio De Sica perform. Television popularity came in 1959 with Canzonissima, where he invented the barman from Ceccano and the catchphrase Fusse che fusse la vorta bbona. Theater popularity came with Un trapezio per Lisistrata in 1958 and with Rugantino in 1962. The thread that ties this path to Scappati di casa is the definition Manfredi gave of himself and that the Ostia theater has adopted as its line: a dramatic actor who acts with irony. A comedy that makes you laugh at four failed men, without despising them, is exactly that kind of theater.

Ostia Lido around Teatro Nino Manfredi

Teatro Nino Manfredi is in Ostia Lido, in Municipio X, the district of Rome facing the Tyrrhenian Sea, a short distance from Lido Centro station and the waterfront. If you arrive a few hours before the show, you have sea, archaeology and nature within reach of the train.

Ostia Antica

One train stop away are the excavations of Ostia Antica, the port city of ancient Rome, and the village of Ostia Antica with the castle of Julius II. A morning among the decumanus, shops and Roman theater and a comedy in the afternoon make a full day.

The pine forest

To the south opens the Pineta di Castel Fusano, one of the great green spaces of Rome's territory, suited to a walk on sunny late-winter days.

The coast

Continuing along the coast you meet the beaches of the Roman coast, as far as the area of Capocotta. Off season the beach clubs are mostly closed, but the walk by the sea remains the ritual of Ostia locals.

The right photo to take at Scappati di casa, il ritorno dei casalinghi disperati at Teatro Nino Manfredi, from February 25 to March 7, 2027

During the show, no photos and no video: in a comedy that lives on comic timing, a lit phone ruins the joke for the whole hall and distracts the actors. The first right photo is taken at the entrance of the theater on Via dei Pallottini, with the poster of Scappati di casa and the name of Nino Manfredi together in the same frame: today's Roman comedy under the name of the actor who played Rugantino. The second is taken on the Ostia waterfront before an afternoon show, with the raking light of late February on the sea. For a title about men who ran away from home, an open horizon is the perfect counterpoint to a story closed within four walls. The third is for those who do the whole day: a photo at the excavations of Ostia Antica in the morning, between the decumanus and the Roman theater, with the afternoon's comedy ticket in hand. Two theaters 2,000 years apart, on the same day and on the same railway line. Those who love details can photograph the official poster displayed in the lobby. During the final applause, unless the theater indicates otherwise, it's best to keep your phone in your pocket: the actors take their bows, and the moment is better enjoyed live.

How to organize a day in Ostia with Scappati di casa

With five afternoon shows out of nine performances, Scappati di casa lends itself to closing a day on the coast organized entirely by the Roma Lido railway, without a car.

The morning at the excavations

From Porta San Paolo you get off at Ostia Antica station: the port city of ancient Rome, with its theater, shops and warehouses, easily fills an entire morning. In February and March the visit is quieter than in spring.

The afternoon at the Lido

On the same line you continue to Lido Centro, for lunch and a walk on the waterfront. At 17:30 you go into the Manfredi. On the way out, the train takes you back to Piramide in time for dinner.

Those who choose the evening

For the 21:00 performances the order is reversed: sea in the afternoon, sunset on the Tyrrhenian, an early dinner in Ostia, curtain, and the return after checking the time of the last train.

Where to eat in Ostia before or after Scappati di casa

Around Teatro Nino Manfredi and toward the waterfront there are seafood restaurants, pizzerias and bars open off season too. Seafood is the natural choice for those coming from Rome.

Before the afternoon show

A seafood lunch on the coast and then theater at 17:30: it is the most typical combination of a Sunday in Ostia, and it works well with this comedy.

After the evening performance

On leaving the 21:00 performances it's best to head for pizzerias and places in the central area of Ostia, keeping an eye on the train time if you're returning to the city. A beer after the show, given the protagonists, is almost a tribute.

Some important events that happened here in history

The history of Teatro Nino Manfredi begins in December 2004, when Felice Della Corte and four partners, Luciano, Enzo, Paolo and Salvatore, take over a former movie theater in Ostia Lido in poor condition and decide to turn it into a 288-seat drama theater. Nino Manfredi had died on June 4 of that year: the new theater takes his name. On September 30, 2005 the hall opens with Un grande grido d'amore by Josiane Balasko, performed by Pamela Villoresi and Pietro Longhi, under the moved gaze of Erminia Ferrari, who had married Manfredi on July 14, 1955 and with whom the actor had the children Roberta, Luca and Giovanna. In the following years the Manfredi becomes a stable presence in the cultural life of the coast, with subscription seasons, shows for young audiences, matinées for schools and a theater school. In October 2015 the same experience gives birth to Teatro Marconi, in Rome. In 2019 Della Corte is elected president of the Unione dei Teatri di Roma, the association of private theaters that he helped found. In the 2024 and 2025 season the Manfredi opens with Sei personaggi in cerca d'autore by Pirandello, directed by Claudio Boccaccini, with Della Corte himself and Silvia Brogi. In October 2026 the 2026/2027 season hosts the Compagnia Mauri Sturno with Amore non eri prevista. Scappati di casa, between February and March 2027, adds to this history as one of the season's comic titles, in the vein of the bittersweet comedy that Manfredi had made popular.

Accessibility, young people and practical information

For access by people with disabilities, it's best to contact the Teatro Nino Manfredi box office at 06 56324849 or at 388 0736402 before buying. Asking in advance lets you choose the most comfortable seats.

With teenagers

Scappati di casa is a light comedy designed for an adult audience: the review speaks of spicy confessions, prostate problems, beer and depression, treated lightly. Older teenagers can take advantage of the under-25 ticket. For children the Manfredi has a dedicated season, published in the children and teenagers section of the website.

Arriving on time

Ostia Lido is flat and the route from Lido Centro station to the theater is short. It's best to arrive 15 minutes early to pick up tickets and to take your seat without rushing.

The running time

The Ostia theater does not publish the running time of the show. The review of the Rome debut speaks of an hour and a half of laughter: a useful indication for calculating the return, to be confirmed at the box office.

Who has come through Scappati di casa, il ritorno dei casalinghi disperati at Teatro Nino Manfredi, from February 25 to March 7, 2027

On the stage of Teatro Nino Manfredi, from the very first evening, have come performers like Pamela Villoresi and Pietro Longhi, leads of the opening on September 30, 2005, and since then the hall has welcomed a long series of actors, directors and companies. Among the guests of recent seasons the local press has noted Nathalie Caldonazzo, lead with Felice Della Corte of a comedy directed by Claudio Boccaccini, and productions signed by Della Corte himself such as La cena di Vermeer, about the most skilled art forger of the 20th century. Boccaccini, Silvia Brogi, Paolo Perinelli and Riccardo Barbera are the companions on the road that the theater's director cites as indispensable. In autumn 2026 the Compagnia Mauri Sturno arrived, the company founded in 1981 by Glauco Mauri and Roberto Sturno. And some have come through without ever setting foot on that stage: Nino Manfredi, pupil of Orazio Costa and Strehler, actor with Eduardo, lead of Rugantino alongside Aldo Fabrizi and Bice Valori, present in Ostia in the name and in the spirit of the programming. With Scappati di casa now come Giancarlo Fares, Andrea Catarinozzi, Valerio Giombetti and Stefano Tomassini of the Compagnia La Bilancia, directed by Nicola Pistoia, an actor in a lot of Italian comedy, from Carlo Vanzina to Massimiliano Bruno, and a director of all-male comedies. The quartet arrives in Ostia after the Rome debut at Teatro de' Servi on February 24, 2026 and the performances in Milan: a well-honed comedy, which at the Manfredi finds its natural audience.

Ostia and Rome between February and March

The performances of Scappati di casa straddle February and March 2027, in the passage from winter to spring, when the Roman coast is still far from the summer crowds.

The coast off season

Off season Ostia goes back to its locals: fishermen on the pier, cyclists heading to Castel Fusano, walks on the waterfront on clear days. For those who live in Rome it's an opportunity to see the city's sea without traffic and without lines.

Days getting longer

At the beginning of March the days start to get longer, and those leaving the 17:30 afternoon show still have a little light to head back toward the station. The late-winter weather is changeable: a heavy jacket and a folding umbrella in your bag are a reasonable precaution.

More theater in Ostia

Ostia has a theater life of its own beyond the Manfredi, with Teatro del Lido and the summer festivals among the ruins of Ostia Antica. Those who discover theater on the coast with this comedy have other reasons to come back.

Final advice on Scappati di casa at Teatro Nino Manfredi

Scappati di casa is a well-honed comedy, already successful in Milan and at Teatro de' Servi, with a close-knit quartet and a director who has known ensemble male comedy for decades. In our view at Teatro Nino Manfredi it finds the right hall: intimate, popular in the best sense, named after an actor who taught us to laugh at men's weaknesses without malice. My practical advice is to choose an afternoon performance, combine the show with a morning at Ostia Antica and a lunch by the sea, go with company and reach the ending about Silvana knowing nothing about it.
