Teatro Prati 2026-2027 Season: dates, times and prices

Teatro Prati's 2026-2027 prose season has five shows over eight months, with performances almost every night from Tuesday to Sunday.

The calendar of the five titles

It opens on Friday, October 9, 2026 with Noi...i Taranto, written and directed by Corrado Taranto, on stage until November 8. From November 13 to December 31 it's the turn of L'Ospite Gradito, a three-act comedy by Peppino De Filippo directed by Fabio Gravina. After the holiday break, from January 22 to February 28, 2027 comes La Luce dei miei Occhi, a two-act comedy written and directed by Gravina. From March 12 to April 25 Eduardo Scarpetta's 'Na Santarella is staged, reworked and directed by Gravina. Closing the season is Coppie, three one-act comedies written and directed by Gravina, from May 7 to 30, 2027.

Performance times

The theater sets a fixed schedule for the whole season: Tuesday to Friday at 21:00, Saturday two performances at 17:30 and 21:00, Sunday and public holidays at 17:30. Only one exception, written on the box office page: the last show of the season starts at 18:00. Monday is the day off.

Ticket prices

There are three price bands published by the theater. Tuesday to Thursday at 21:00 a full-price ticket costs €20, reduced €17. Friday at 21:00 and Saturday at 17:30 it goes up to €30 full price and €25 reduced. Saturday at 21:00, Sunday and holidays at 17:30 there's only the full price at €30. With five titles on the program, even the most expensive subscription costs less than five full-price weekend tickets.

Teatro Prati 2026-2027 program, title by title

The five shows of the 2026-2027 season follow the line Teatro Prati has kept since it opened in 1998: classic Neapolitan comedy, plays by the De Filippo family and Scarpetta, and original comedies by artistic director Fabio Gravina.

Noi...i Taranto (October 9 to November 8, 2026)

The opening show is a tribute to Nino Taranto, born more than 100 years ago in the working-class Forcella district of Naples. The theater's presentation describes him as an actor with a measured, gracious, never vulgar style, who within a mostly comic cinema managed to show his full stature in Luigi Zampa's Anni facili (1953), a film that earned him the 1954 Nastro d'argento for best actor. The evening retraces his career: his first real breakthrough came overseas, with the Cafiero-Fumo sceneggiata company. Then variety theater, where he was a splendid performer of the macchietta, the revue, of which he was a forerunner, prose, television, cinema.

Corrado Taranto and his brother Carlo

Beside Nino, for most of his career, was his brother Carlo, always on stage with him but with his own path in film too: the theater recalls Mario Monicelli's Il medico e lo stregone and Nanni Loy's Mi manda Picone, alongside Giancarlo Giannini. It's Carlo's son, Corrado Taranto, who hosts and performs the show. On video you see Taranto in revue, film, theater and television, with Carlo, Totò, Aldo Fabrizi and Macario beside him. Live, Corrado revives some of his uncle's best-known performances.

L'Ospite Gradito (November 13 to December 31, 2026)

The title that takes audiences up to New Year's is a three-act comedy by Peppino De Filippo, directed by Fabio Gravina. Commendatore Gervasio Savastani lives a serene, comfortable life: business is thriving, his daughter is about to get married. On his 57th birthday an old schoolmate turns up at the door, Walter Sotterra, shunned by everyone for his reputation as a jinx. Gervasio, rational and kindhearted, takes him in, defying the superstitions of family and acquaintances. From that moment a chain of inexplicable disasters begins in the Savastani home. It's the classic mechanism of Peppino's comedy, which plays with Neapolitan superstition without ever taking it entirely seriously.

La Luce dei miei Occhi (January 22 to February 28, 2027)

A two-act comedy written and directed by Fabio Gravina, it's the most contemporary title of the season. Cesare is a self-made man: after a dark and lonely past he built an enviable job, a luxurious financial position, a lovely family. When his daughter runs away from home he can't find an explanation, convinced he never denied her anything. Then two strangers burst into the house, Mr. and Mrs. Vandelli, a little less strange to his wife Marta, and Cesare tries to settle the matter with money, wounding a father who has suffered as much as he has. From there begins his reflection on what he thought was a perfect life.

'Na Santarella (March 12 to April 25, 2027)

Eduardo Scarpetta's classic arrives reworked and directed by Gravina. Felice Sciosciammocca is the organist at a convent school for girls: by day he teaches music to the girls, by night he sneaks out to go to the theaters, where he finally manages to get one of his operettas staged. On opening night the leading lady walks out, and he's saved by Nannina, the convent girl who dreams of the stage and had learned the part in secret. The families want to marry her to a young lieutenant who wants nothing to do with an unknown convent girl, but who falls in love with the soubrette at the theater without knowing she's the same girl. The operetta is a success, the marriage goes ahead.

Coppie (May 7 to 30, 2027)

The season closes with three one-act comedies written and directed by Gravina. In Non ti lascio! a husband supported by his wife is caught cheating on her and invents ever more daring excuses so as not to lose his comfortable life. In La Trottola a wife, on their anniversary, finds a spinning top in her husband's car. In Lui, lei e l'altro a 50-year-old has found a way to have many women without marrying any of them: they're all wives of his best friends, until one of them shows up with a suitcase. The format of three one-act plays has always been the best suited to taking someone who doesn't often go to the theater.

Fabio Gravina, the soul of Teatro Prati

Fabio Gravina, actor and director, is the founder and artistic director of Teatro Prati: in 1996 he founded the Compagnia Umoristica QuartaParete, for which the theater was created two years later.

The company before the theater

Before having a venue, Gravina had already been running a company in the Rome area for a few years. The theater's official account says Teatro Prati was born from the need to give that company a permanent home. It's an origin that explains many things: the Prati is a company theater, with a coherent repertoire and a loyal audience, more than a touring venue that changes language every week.

Author, director, actor

This season Gravina's name is on four titles out of five: director of L'Ospite Gradito, author and director of La Luce dei miei Occhi and Coppie, adapter and director of 'Na Santarella. His work alternates Neapolitan classics, Scarpetta, Eduardo and Peppino De Filippo, with original comedies set in today's couple and family life. Published profiles of the theater stress exactly this double track: the Prati is a reference point of the Neapolitan theater tradition for Roman audiences, and alongside the classics it stages original works born from the founder's ideas.

A theater like a living room

On the presentation page Gravina explains the starting idea: a hall where the audience feels as if in their own living room, with the seats arranged so that every seat has the same view of the stage. Hence the formula the theater uses to present itself, a theater of front-row seats. If you know Roman halls with sacrificed side rows, you'll appreciate the promise, which for an audience of this size is credible.

Neapolitan comedy in Rome: why Teatro Prati is different from the others

Teatro Prati is one of the few Roman venues that has made Neapolitan comedy the permanent center of its program, season after season, since 1998.

Scarpetta, Eduardo, Peppino

The line is that of the great authors of the Neapolitan stage: Eduardo Scarpetta, the father of Felice Sciosciammocca, Eduardo De Filippo, and Peppino De Filippo, from whom the theater chose a play to open the venue in 1998. The opening comedy was Casanova farebbe così!, written by Peppino with Armando Curcio. Returning to Peppino this year with L'Ospite Gradito ideally closes a circle.

The macchietta and variety theater

The season opens with Nino Taranto, master of the macchietta, and in the theater's foyer the bowler hat of Nicola Maldacea (1870-1945) is on display, the artist the theater names as the inventor of the macchietta. It's no small thing: the Prati also gives space to variety theater and revue, genres that official prose theater has often treated with condescension. In our opinion that's exactly the most precious part of its identity.

An audience that comes back

The theater's website keeps an archive of programs from 1998-1999 to today, and the home page marks the 25th anniversary. A private venue that holds up for almost 30 years with such a specific offer has clearly found its audience, made of devoted spectators and subscribers.

Teatro Prati on Via degli Scipioni: what the hall is like

Teatro Prati opened on November 9, 1998 at number 98 Via degli Scipioni, in premises that previously housed an industrial printing works.

From printing works to theater

It was Fabio's father, Commendatore Domenico Gravina, who took over the premises to turn them into a theater. The project was entrusted to Fabio Gravina himself together with architects Angelo Preziosi and Giuseppe Pepe. The work took less than a year, a very short time for a theater building site in Rome.

A hall that looks old

The declared aim of the project was to give the impression that there had always been a theater on Via degli Scipioni. That's why a classic style was chosen: stucco work, hall, stage and furnishings are all conceived in this key. The seats are in bright red velvet and silk, the curtain is of the imperial type, the bar and foyer are paneled in wood. The result is a warm-toned hall, far from the neutral aesthetic of new venues.

The foyer of memorabilia

In the foyer a display case collects objects that belonged to the greats of Italian comedy, each with its own label: the most expert spectators enjoy recognizing them before reading it. I'll talk about it further on, because it's the best reason to arrive half an hour early.

Size and atmosphere

The theater calls itself Rome's little living room. It's an intimate hall, where the distance between actors and audience is minimal and comedy works at its best: the lines arrive without microphones filtering them, the pauses can be felt, and the audience laughs together. The exact capacity isn't published on the official website.

Prati, the neighborhood around the theater

Via degli Scipioni is in the Prati neighborhood, between the Ottaviano area and the Tiber, a short distance from the Vatican and Castel Sant'Angelo.

A neighborhood of united Italy

Prati is one of the neighborhoods built after 1870, when Rome became the capital and the city expanded onto the right bank of the Tiber, onto land until then occupied by meadows and vineyards that gave the area its name. The grid of wide, straight streets, the late 19th-century buildings, the names of heroes and figures of Republican Rome, like the Scipios, the Gracchi, Cola di Rienzo, convey well the spirit of the new capital. If you want to dig deeper, you'll find the full picture in our guide to Prati and Borgo, what to see between the Vatican and Castel Sant'Angelo.

The Palazzaccio and the great monuments

About 20 minutes' walk away, on the Lungotevere, stands the Palace of Justice, the Romans' Palazzaccio, symbol of late 19th-century Rome. A little further is Castel Sant'Angelo, and across the bridge you reach Piazza del Popolo.

The Vatican a stone's throw away

From the Ottaviano area you can walk to the Vatican Museums and St. Peter's Square. A well-planned day can end with the 21:00 comedy: the morning at the Vatican, the afternoon between Borgo and the Tiber, the evening at the theater.

How to get to Teatro Prati

Teatro Prati is reached by metro A, getting off at Ottaviano station, a few minutes' walk from the venue.

By metro

Line A is the simplest option from almost anywhere in the city: it links Termini, Piazza della Repubblica, Piazza di Spagna and Flaminio with Ottaviano. From Termini it's a handful of stops. In the evening the metro is also the safest choice for the way back. If you're leaving the 21:00 performance, though, check the time of the last train on the Rome transit company's website, especially on weekdays.

By bus

Prati is served by many surface lines linking the neighborhood to the historic center and Termini. The most convenient route from your starting point can be worked out with the transit company's travel planner or with navigation apps.

By car and parking

Street parking in Prati in the evening is difficult, especially on weekends. If you come by car, set off well ahead of time or leave the car in a paid parking lot in the area.

By taxi

If you're coming from the other side of the city or are in a group, a taxi to Via degli Scipioni 98 is often the most relaxed solution, especially for the way back after the evening performance.

Tickets and bookings for Teatro Prati season

Teatro Prati tickets are booked by phone with the theater, 06 39740503, or directly at the box office at Via degli Scipioni 98.

Booking by phone

The box office page explains that a phone call is enough to book a seat, with the option of buying from home by giving the details of a Visa or Mastercard card. The theater also lists a cell number, 366 3108327, and the email address teatroprati@libero.it.

Box office hours

The box office is open Monday to Friday, from 10:00 to 13:00 and from 14:00 to 19:00. It's closed on Saturday and Sunday: if you want to book for the weekend, do it by Friday.

Agreements

The theater publishes a list of discount agreements on its official website, teatroprati.it, along with sign-up for the newsletter with season news.

When to book

Saturday evening and Sunday afternoon performances are the most in demand. If you have a specific day in mind, call a few weeks ahead, while for Tuesday and Wednesday you can usually find a seat even close to the date.

How to plan your evening at Teatro Prati

An evening at Teatro Prati starts well with a walk in the neighborhood and an aperitivo, since the evening performance starts at 21:00.

Arriving early

I suggest arriving at least 20 minutes early: time to pick up your tickets, settle in and above all take a calm look at the memorabilia case in the foyer.

The matinee

The 17:30 performances on Saturday, Sunday and holidays are ideal for those with older children, for older spectators and for those coming from outside Rome. You come out at dinnertime, with the whole neighborhood at your disposal.

With a group

For a group of friends or an association, Teatro Prati is a simple choice: an intimate hall, a repertoire that brings different generations together, clear prices. Call the box office to ask about seats together.

Accessibility and practical information

For Teatro Prati's accessibility for people with mobility disabilities, the point of reference is the box office at 06 39740503, which knows the layout of the hall and the facilities.

Before you go

The official website doesn't give detailed information on ramps, reserved seats and accessible facilities. If you need them, call before booking, to get a suitable seat and instructions for getting in.

With children

The Prati's repertoire is designed for an adult audience, but it's clean comedy, with no vulgarity. With kids from 11 or 12 up, the three short comedies of Coppie and 'Na Santarella, with its operetta story, are the most suitable titles. The show on Nino Taranto will please those whose grandparents love variety theater.

Where to eat before or after the show

Prati is one of the Roman neighborhoods with the most restaurants, pizzerias and bars, around Via Cola di Rienzo and the Ottaviano area.

Before the evening performance

With a 21:00 start there's time for an early dinner, around 19:00, at a trattoria or pizzeria in the neighborhood. Alternatively, a substantial aperitivo at one of the many bars on and around Via Cola di Rienzo, and then dinner after the show.

After the matinee

Leaving the 17:30 performance you have the whole evening ahead: Prati offers traditional Roman cooking, pizza by the slice, delis and more refined places.

A themed idea

After a Neapolitan comedy pizza is almost a must, and there's no shortage of Neapolitan-style pizzerias in the area. It's the kind of evening the Prati's audience knows well.

Eight months of theater in Rome: the season's timeframe

Teatro Prati season runs through the Roman fall, winter and spring, from October 2026 to the end of May 2027.

Fall and the holidays

October and November are mild months in Rome, ideal for a walk in Prati before the show. L'Ospite Gradito stays on stage until December 31, and the December performances make a good Christmas present: a Peppino De Filippo comedy is a holiday classic in many families.

Winter

January and February are the coldest and rainiest months. La Luce dei miei Occhi takes up this stretch of the season: an evening of indoor theater, near the metro, is a great way to spend a winter night.

Spring

'Na Santarella runs through March and April, including Easter and April 25, a public holiday with a 17:30 performance. In May Coppie closes the season, with the first warm evenings when you can leave the theater and stroll along the Lungotevere.

A curious fact about Teatro Prati 2026-2027 Season, October 9, 2026 to May 30, 2027

Teatro Prati 2026-2027 season opens with a tribute to Nino Taranto and stages, in the same winter, a play by Peppino De Filippo: and the venue, since November 9, 1998, has kept the toy trumpet Peppino used in La lettera di mammà.

A trumpet and a bowler hat

The trumpet was donated to the theater by Lelia Mangano De Filippo. In the same case is the bowler hat of Nicola Maldacea, who lived between 1870 and 1945, whom the theater names as the inventor of the macchietta, a gift from Enzo Monteduro. The curious thing is that the season talks with its own objects: Maldacea's macchietta was the genre in which Nino Taranto became a master, and Peppino's trumpet recalls the author of L'Ospite Gradito. If you walk into the foyer before Noi...i Taranto or L'Ospite Gradito, you have in front of you, in the case, a piece of the history you'll see on stage.

The meaning of those objects

The theater explains that the presence of this memorabilia isn't just evocative or decorative: it represents an ideal artistic continuity and the warmth with which many actors loved by the public greeted the birth of Teatro Prati. Put simply, the display case is the venue's calling card: it tells you right away which tradition it comes from and which audience it speaks to.

Something nobody tells you about Teatro Prati 2026-2027 Season, October 9, 2026 to May 30, 2027

What few guides say about Teatro Prati is that the price changes a lot depending on the day: Tuesday to Thursday at 21:00 full price is €20, from Friday evening on €30.

A €10 difference

It's the same show, with the same actors, in the same hall where, as the founder assures, every seat has the same view of the stage. Only the calendar makes the difference. For a couple that's €20 saved, for a group of eight €80. And the reduced price exists only up to Saturday afternoon: on Saturday evening, Sunday and holidays the theater charges only full price.

The box office closed on weekends

The other thing to know is that the box office is closed on Saturday and Sunday. If you wake up on Saturday morning wanting to go to the theater, you risk not being able to book: better to act by Friday at 19:00. These are details that don't appear on the posters but make a difference, especially if you're coming from outside Rome and planning the weekend.

The €60 subscription

Finally, the cheapest subscription, €60, is valid only Tuesday to Thursday and only in the first three weeks of each show: it's designed for those who love the early performances and want to see all five titles while spending little.

My tip for Teatro Prati 2026-2027 Season, October 9, 2026 to May 30, 2027

My tip for Teatro Prati 2026-2027 season is simple: choose a Thursday evening, book by phone by the Friday before and arrive half an hour early.

Why Thursday

Thursday at 21:00 combines the lowest price, €20 full price, with a hall often already well filled by the neighborhood audience and subscribers. It's the performance where comedy works best: a full hall laughs, and in a comedy the audience's laughter is half the show.

Why half an hour early

The memorabilia case deserves 10 minutes of attention, and the game the theater suggests, recognizing the object before reading the label, is fun even if you're not an expert. Then there's time to sit down without rushing.

Which title to choose

If you can see only one show, choose L'Ospite Gradito: Peppino De Filippo is the author the theater opened with in 1998, and the comedy of the jinx is a comic mechanism that works on anyone. If you love the history of show business, Noi...i Taranto is a rare chance to see a variety great told by a member of his family. If you're taking someone who never goes to the theater, choose Coppie.

Another well-known fact, yet one that's rarely mentioned

It's known to Teatro Prati regulars, but rarely written, that the hall on Via degli Scipioni was born inside an industrial printing works and was built in less than a year.

The lightning-fast build

Commendatore Domenico Gravina took over the premises to give a home to his son's company, founded in 1996. Fabio Gravina's project with architects Angelo Preziosi and Giuseppe Pepe was carried out very quickly, and on November 9, 1998 the theater opened to the public with Peppino De Filippo and Armando Curcio's Casanova farebbe così!. In a city where opening a theater often takes years of paperwork and construction, it's an uncommon result.

A theater pretending to be old

The other rarely mentioned fact is the stylistic choice: the designers wanted the hall to look as if it had always been there. Stucco, red velvet, imperial curtain, wood paneling: first-time visitors think they're in an early 20th-century theater, and yet the hall is less than 30 years old. It's a choice consistent with the repertoire: classic Neapolitan comedy needs a setting that welcomes it as if it were at home.

A private, family venue

Teatro Prati is run by the company Arte del Teatro, and the Gravina family has followed every phase, from buying the premises to the artistic direction. In a Rome of public theaters and big circuits, it's an example of an independent venue that stands on its own audience.

The right photo to take at Teatro Prati 2026-2027 Season, October 9, 2026 to May 30, 2027

The right photo at Teatro Prati is taken in the foyer, in front of the memorabilia case, with the labels in the foreground and the red velvet in the background.

The display case

The shawl and shoes of Concetta, the heroine of Natale in casa Cupiello, donated by Pupella Maggio. Alberto Sordi's hats and bowler hats. Renato Rascel's hats. Peppino's toy trumpet. Maldacea's bowler hat. A tight detail, with an object and its legible label, tells more than a wide shot. Avoid flash on the glass, which bounces back a reflection: better to approach from the side.

The hall before the start

The second photo is of the hall, with the red seats and the closed curtain, taken before the lights go down. During the show no photos are allowed: it's a rule of respect for the actors and the audience, and in such an intimate hall every lit screen is noticed.

Outside, on Via degli Scipioni

On the way out, the lit facade with the theater's name and the poster of the current show is the simplest souvenir of the evening. With five titles on the program, if you go several times you can collect the season's posters.

Some important events that happened here in history

On November 9, 1998 Teatro Prati opened to the public at Via degli Scipioni 98 with the comedy Casanova farebbe così! by Peppino De Filippo and Armando Curcio.

1996, the company

In 1996 Fabio Gravina founded the Compagnia Umoristica QuartaParete. Two years later his father Domenico bought the premises of an industrial printing works to give it a permanent home.

1998, the opening

Construction ended in less than a year. On November 9, 1998 the hall opened with a play by Peppino De Filippo, a choice that declared the theater's artistic line from day one.

Donations from the greats

In the following years the theater received memorabilia donated by great performers and their families: Pupella Maggio donated Concetta's shawl and shoes, Giuditta Saltarini Renato Rascel's hats, Lelia Mangano De Filippo Peppino's toy trumpet. The case also took in Alberto Sordi's objects, including the tuxedo from Polvere di stelle.

The 25th anniversary

The official website marks the theater's 25th anniversary, celebrated with the motto dove la tradizione è di casa, where tradition is at home. The online archive keeps the programs of every season, from 1998-1999 to the one opening on October 9, 2026.

The 2026-2027 season

With five titles and over seven months of performances, the new season closes on May 30, 2027 with the last performance at 18:00.

Who has passed through Teatro Prati 2026-2027 Season, October 9, 2026 to May 30, 2027

On Teatro Prati stage, in its almost 30 years, actors like Lelia Mangano De Filippo, Riccardo Garrone, Giuditta Saltarini, Aldo Giuffrè, Antonella Steni and Vittorio Marsiglia have performed.

The performers

Among the performers who have acted there, published profiles of the theater also mention Gennaro Cannavacciuolo, Renato Cortesi and Nicola Piovani. Antonella Steni brought Aspira...polvere di stelle there, Piovani the show Variazioni sul varietà. These are names that convey the spirit of the venue well: comedy, variety, theater music.

Special guests

Among the guests who have frequented the theater are Alberto Sordi, Pupella Maggio, Mario Scaccia, Paolo Ferrari, Pietro Garinei, Gigi Proietti, Lino Banfi, Romano Mussolini, Isabella Quarantotti De Filippo, Luigi De Filippo, Renato Carosone and Oreste Lionello. For a venue this size it's an impressive list, which shows how warmly the show business world welcomed the birth of the Prati.

Alberto Sordi and his hats

Sordi left the theater several hats, caps and bowlers worn in hit films like Il vedovo, Fumo di Londra, Scusi, lei è favorevole o contrario? and Di che segno sei?, as well as the tuxedo from Polvere di stelle. For Roman audiences, seeing them a few centimeters away is a small pilgrimage.

In the 2026-2027 season

This season Corrado Taranto passes through Via degli Scipioni, with the tribute to his uncle Nino, and Fabio Gravina's company with four titles.

Other theaters and evenings nearby

Teatro Prati isn't the only venue in the area between Prati and the Vatican: if you love comedy, you'll find other options close by.

Teatro Ghione

Teatro Ghione, a few steps from St. Peter's, has a program of prose and comedy that complements the Prati's well.

Teatro Sala Umberto

On the other side of the Tiber, near Via del Corso, Teatro Sala Umberto is another historic Roman theater for prose and entertainment, easy to reach from Piazza del Popolo area.

Who runs Teatro Prati?

My final tip on Teatro Prati

Teatro Prati is the right venue if you want a good laugh, without vulgarity, inside a tradition few in Rome cultivate with the same consistency. Book a Thursday, arrive early, look at the display case, and let Neapolitan comedy do its job. If I had to choose a single title of the season, I'd choose L'Ospite Gradito: Peppino De Filippo in a hall born with Peppino.
