Terapia di coppia: what kind of show it is
Terapia di coppia presents the PanPers themselves as a couple in crisis. After years of life together, says the Teatro Olimpico presentation, even the most tightly knit duo needs help to keep from crumbling.
The duo as a marriage
The starting idea is simple and felicitous: treating a comic duo like a marriage. After so many years some friction is inevitable, and the smallest issue can become a matter of state. The two have shared everything, the presentation says: hotel rooms and highway rest-stop parking lots, toothpaste and toothbrushes, friendships and enmities, dreams, hopes and even the Instagram profile. Anyone who has lived a long relationship, as a couple or at work, recognizes themselves immediately.
The search for the therapist
To save the couple they need the consultation of an expert, someone who knows how to listen and analyze what makes each person unique, so that two different characters can live together in harmony. The show thus becomes a journey into the duality of the human soul, with a final question: will the two manage to find the right figure to save their partnership? It's the classic structure of the two-voice comedy, with the audience called to be the witness.
A repertoire show
Terapia di coppia already appears in the list of the duo's theater shows, alongside titles such as Vi è mai capitato, Akkattappara Show, Bastardi con la gloria, Quasi esauriti, Body Scemi and C'è da ridere. The return to Olimpico in the 2026/2027 season confirms that the title has found its audience.
Who it's for
It's a show designed for those who know the PanPers from television and the web, but it also works for those who have never seen them, because the theme of the couple is universal. The register is that of fast comedy, made of jokes, rhythm and complicity between the two. For an evening with friends or as a couple, indeed, it's almost an explicit invitation.
Who the PanPers are: Andrea Pisani and Luca Peracino
The PanPers are a comic duo of cabaret performers and actors made up of Andrea Pisani, born in Turin on May 17, 1987, and Luca Peracino, born on October 25, 1987. They have worked together since they were 19.
The name: cabaret's babies
The name comes from a diaper brand. It was chosen for them by the organizer of the first cabaret evening they took part in: they were two 19-year-olds among much more mature colleagues, and were introduced as the babies of cabaret. To avoid trouble with the brand, the name was later changed to the spelling PanPers. It's a christening that says a lot about their style: self-irony above all.
School: Cab41 and Zelig
The duo formed in comedy workshops. First Cab41 in Turin, then the Zelig workshop in Turin in 2008 and the one in Milan in 2009. It's the classic path of Italian television comedy of the 2000s: small stages, trial evenings, routines polished in front of a real audience before reaching television.
Colorado, 10 years on Italia 1
In September 2009 the PanPers land on Colorado, on Italia 1, and take part in all the following editions of the show, until 2019. 10 years of prime time that made them familiar faces for a generation of viewers. In May 2011 they debut at Teatro Giulia di Barolo in Turin with Akkattappara Show, their first large-format show.
Sitcoms and TV drama
In 2011 they act in the sitcom In tour on Disney Channel, in the roles of Lenny and Fil, rockers of the band Rolling Diamonds always trying to steal the stage from their rivals. In 2012 Luca Peracino joins the cast of the Rai 1 series Una grande famiglia, in the role of Nicolò. In December 2014 they are the leads, with Luca Cassol, of the sitcom Shot Time on Italia 1.
Cinema
In 2013 they debut in cinema with Frank Matano and Guglielmo Scilla in Fuga di cervelli, directed by Paolo Ruffini. In 2015 Pisani acts in Belli di papà by Guido Chiesa, while Peracino is in the cast of Matrimonio al Sud by Paolo Costella. In 2016 they are back together on the big screen with I babysitter by Giovanni Bognetti. In 2020 they are in Cambio tutto! by Guido Chiesa. Also in 2020 Pisani directs, with Andrea Fava, the short film Euphollia.
TV hosts
In 2016 they are correspondents on W Radio Playa on Italia 1, hosted by Diletta Leotta and Daniele Battaglia. In 2020 they lead one of the two teams of Enjoy, Ridere fa bene. In 2021 they are co-hosts, with Fatima Trotta and Francesco Mandelli, of Honolulu, of which they are also project leads and authors. From April 2022 they host Only Fun, Comico Show on Nove, first with Elettra Lamborghini and then with Belen Rodriguez. In the same year they host Wild Things on Boing. In 2023 they debut on Zelig on Canale 5, where they stay until 2025.
Musical parodies and the web
An important part of their popularity comes from music. The PanPers have released four albums of parodies: Non cantiamo mika in 2015, Benedetta parodia in 2016, Parodio (ma sono umano) in 2017, Meglio dell'originale in 2020, as well as singles such as Un'altra estate è andata and Sempre meglio che lavorare. In 2013 they appear in the video of Ragazzo inadeguato by Max Pezzali. On the web they made the series Spycar and, in 2024, La fuga on Prime Video, where in 2021 they had already appeared in Before Pintus.
PanPers, the secret of a duo that lasts
Italian comic duos that last beyond 10 years are few, and the PanPers are among them: together since they were 19, today close to 40.
Two careers, one brand
Their story shows a precise balance. Each has had spaces of his own, Peracino in Rai 1 drama and in Matrimonio al Sud, Pisani in Belli di papà and behind the camera, but the shared brand has never cracked. Terapia di coppia, after all, plays on exactly this: on what holds together two people who could very well work alone.
From cabaret to theater
The leap from the five-minute routines of Colorado to a 90-minute show is not a given. The PanPers did it in stages, from Akkattappara Show in 2011 onward, building a theater repertoire that today fills halls like the Olimpico. It's the path many comedians attempt and few complete.
A curiosity about PanPers, Terapia di coppia at Teatro Olimpico, March 16 and 17, 2027
The funniest curiosity concerns the name. PanPers comes from the most famous diaper brand in Italy, and it isn't a marketing stunt: it was chosen by the organizer of their first cabaret evening, who saw two 19-year-olds among much older comedians. He introduced them as the babies of cabaret. The name stuck, with one letter changed to avoid legal trouble. Few artists carry in their stage name the exact memory of the first night they stepped on a stage.
The second curiosity is about the calendar. In Olimpico's programming, Terapia di coppia comes right after Coppia aperta quasi spalancata, with Chiara Francini and Alessandro Federico. Two shows about the couple in a row, on the same stage: first Dario Fo and Franca Rame reread by two actors, then two comedians staging the crisis of their professional partnership. Anyone with a subscription or a passion for the theme can put together a small personal series.
The third concerns the hall. Teatro Olimpico was born as a movie theater and for decades hosted, in the intervals between one screening and the next, avanspettacolo acts. Two comedians trading jokes in front of an audience of over a thousand people pick up, almost 90 years later, a tradition born right in there.
Teatro Olimpico: from 1930s movie house to home of comedy
Teatro Olimpico in Piazza Gentile da Fabriano has been active as Cine Teatro Olimpico since 1936 and as Teatro Olimpico since 1981. It is on Lungotevere Flaminio, at the height of Ponte della Musica, and is also the venue of most of the Accademia Filarmonica Romana's shows.
The construction
The block that includes the theater was built in 1935 and 1936 by the firm Garbarino, Sciaccaluga and Mezzacane for the Società Generale Immobiliare. These were the years when the Flaminio neighborhood and the Foro Italico were being born, and Rome was stretching north along the Tiber.
Cinema, avanspettacolo, music
Until the 1950s the hall functioned mostly as a movie theater, with avanspettacolo performers in the intervals. After the war the Accademia Filarmonica Romana rented it for its music season and, under the presidency of Adriana Panni, lived through a period of great vitality.
1980, the citizens' theater
At the end of the 1970s the theater was put up for sale. Adriana Panni promoted a subscription and brought together many citizens in the Teatro Olimpico spa, which in 1980 bought the property. From 1981 the program opens steadily to prose, dance and crowd-drawing comedy.
What the Teatro Olimpico hall is like
The Teatro Olimpico hall has 1,410 seats: 966 in the orchestra and 444 in the gallery, with the seats arranged in an amphitheater.
The sloped orchestra
The orchestra seats are arranged in a sloped cavea: those sitting behind see over the heads of those in front. For a comic show, where expressions matter, it's a clear advantage over the flat orchestras of many historic theaters.
The horseshoe gallery
The gallery, which in the box office corresponds to the balcony sections, has a horseshoe shape with stepped seating on curved lines. The central sections face the stage head-on, the side ones at an angle.
A big stage for two
The stage measures about 10 meters deep by 12 wide. For a duo it's an enormous space, and the comedians' skill is measured also by their ability to fill it.
Something nobody tells you about PanPers, Terapia di coppia at Teatro Olimpico, March 16 and 17, 2027
In the foyer and corridors of Teatro Olimpico are kept sets made by great 20th-century artists for shows that were staged right there, and almost no spectator notices.
There are the golden forms Corrado Cagli made for Igor Stravinsky's Mass, performed at Olimpico in October 1975. There is the backdrop Giacomo Manzù painted for the Histoire du soldat, also by Stravinsky, in October 1966. There is Alfred Silbermann's set design for another performance of the Mass, in December 2001, and Mirko's sculpture for Chordination, from Niccolò Castiglioni's Tre misteri, in October 1968.
They are works born for a few evenings and left behind. They tell of an Accademia Filarmonica that called sculptors and painters to work for music. And they create a contrast I find irresistible: you walk past a Manzù to go laugh with two comedians from Colorado.
The practical tip: arrive 20 minutes early and take a walk before you sit down. Just raise your eyes between one row and the next. Few halls in Rome keep works of this level in a corridor, and nobody points them out to you.
Where to sit to see the PanPers
For Terapia di coppia at Teatro Olimpico the best seats are in the central orchestra, in the poltronissima gold and poltrona sections. A comic show lives on glances and timing, and distance matters.
Poltronissima gold
At 38 euros plus presale, it's the choice of those who want to see the interplay between the two up close. The front rows are also the ones the comedians address most often: anyone who prefers to laugh without becoming part of the show can aim for the central rows.
Poltrona and central balcony
Poltrona and balcony cost the same, 31 euros plus presale. The balcony offers a frontal overall view, useful for a two-person show where it matters to see both performers together. The difference between the priciest section and the cheapest is only nine euros: in this case it's worth spending them.
Sides and railing
The side sections and those with railing cost less, from 29 to 33 euros. For a spoken show the sacrifice is small: you hear everything, you see a bit less. For a large group they can be the right solution.
My advice for seeing PanPers, Terapia di coppia at Teatro Olimpico, March 16 and 17, 2027
My advice is to go as two, and to pick the right person. Terapia di coppia is a show about living together, and it's twice as good if you watch it next to someone you share habits, manias and small conflicts with: your partner, a longtime friend, a desk mate. The best laughs come when you trade a glance because a joke hit the mark.
Second tip: take advantage of the weeknight. Tuesday and Wednesday are evenings you organize with less rush than Saturday, and places in the area are easier to book. With a 20:30 start you can have dinner afterward, unhurriedly, around 22:00.
Third: buy online in advance, but check the section carefully. In Olimpico's price list there are seven different sections, and those marked railing have partially limited visibility. If the budget allows, the central poltrona is the best compromise. If you come as a group, call the box office: it often finds solutions you don't see online. And remember that the presale is always paid, even at the box office: the real cost of the ticket is the sum of the two items.
Another well-known fact, yet rarely mentioned
Teatro Olimpico doesn't belong to a public body or a large group: it belongs to a joint-stock company born in 1980 from a subscription by citizens. Many Romans know it, few remember it.
At the end of the 1970s the company that owned the property and the film body that ran it had gone bankrupt, and the building was for sale. Adriana Panni, president of the Accademia Filarmonica Romana, raised capital among professionals, entrepreneurs, intellectuals and enthusiasts. The Teatro Olimpico spa was born, with a broad shareholder base, which bought the theater from the Società Generale Immobiliare and still owns it.
The consequence shows in the program. A private theater needs full halls, and this explains the opening, from 1981, to crowd-drawing comedy. The PanPers, in this sense, are exactly the type of artist on which Olimpico built its strength: comedians with a broad and loyal audience, built on television and the web, able to fill a hall of over a thousand seats on a weeknight. When you sit in the orchestra, you are guests of a hall saved by a group of citizens, and kept alive, also, by laughter.
How to get to Teatro Olimpico for the PanPers
Teatro Olimpico is reached by metro A to Flaminio and then tram 2 to the terminus at Piazza Mancini, from where it's about 500 meters on foot. These are the theater's own directions.
Metro A and tram 2
From the Flaminio station on line A you take tram 2 to the terminus at Piazza Mancini, then walk along Viale del Pinturicchio to Piazza Gentile da Fabriano: about five minutes.
Buses
The lines with a stop near the theater listed by Olimpico are 220, 232, 233, 280, 301, 446, 48, 910 and 911, plus tram 2. The 910 leaves from Termini: you get off at the Pannini stop and walk about 300 meters on Viale del Pinturicchio. Lines 200, 201, 53 and the night line n24, useful for the return, also arrive at Piazza Mancini.
Roma-Viterbo railway
Those coming from Roma Nord get off at Flaminio and take tram 2 to Piazza Mancini.
By car
From the center you take Viale del Muro Torto toward Piazzale Flaminio and follow the Lungotevere to Lungotevere Flaminio. From the north you follow Lungotevere Maresciallo Diaz to the Foro Italico, cross Ponte Duca d'Aosta and turn right to Piazza Gentile da Fabriano. Parking, on show nights, remains the real problem: leave early or leave the car at home.
The right photo to take at PanPers, Terapia di coppia at Teatro Olimpico, March 16 and 17, 2027
The right photo is taken outside, on Ponte della Musica, which crosses the Tiber right in front of Piazza Gentile da Fabriano. In mid-March, around 19:45, the light has just gone and the bridge is lit: on one side the rationalist facade of the theater with its tall travertine base, on the other the bank of the Foro Italico. It's an image that says where you've been better than a selfie in front of the poster.
Given the theme of the show, though, the advice is different: take a photo of the two of you, on the bridge, before going in. A couple photo, or of friends, before the therapy. If the show does its job, on the way out you'll take another with a different air, and the comparison will be the funniest part.
The third photo is the lit facade of the theater, with the sign and the audience waiting, shot from the opposite side of the piazza about 20 minutes before the start. Inside, during the show, no photos and no video: two comedians work on timing and surprise, and the glare of a phone ruins both. If you want a memento of the hall, photograph the foyer and the historic sets before going in.
Some important events that happened here in history
On March 4, 1965 Pierre Boulez conducted at Teatro Olimpico a concert with the Italian premiere of Igor Stravinsky's Abraham and Isaac and the European premiere of his Elegy for Kennedy. It is perhaps the most important date in the hall's musical history.
In the following years Olimpico hosted stagings in which art and music met: Stravinsky's Histoire du soldat in October 1966, with Giacomo Manzù's backdrop. Niccolò Castiglioni's Tre misteri in October 1968, with Mirko's sculpture. Stravinsky's Mass in October 1975, with Corrado Cagli's golden forms.
1980 is the year of the turning point: the Teatro Olimpico spa is born, and buys the building. From 1981 the hall changes name and vocation. Moses Pendleton's Momix debut here in April 1982 and become regular guests. The Lindsay Kemp Company brings A Midsummer Night's Dream in February 1989. In the 1990s come Mikhail Baryshnikov with the White Oak Dance Project, in October 1995, and the Bolshoi Ballet, in September 1996. In 2004, the Béjart Ballet Lausanne.
In the 2009/2010 season the Agis rankings place Olimpico second in Rome and seventh in Italy by number of spectators. It was the same year the PanPers, just arrived on Colorado, were beginning to build the audience that follows them in theaters today.
Who has passed through: PanPers, Terapia di coppia at Teatro Olimpico, March 16 and 17, 2027
On the Teatro Olimpico stage have passed musicians such as Arturo Benedetti Michelangeli, Jessye Norman, Zubin Mehta, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Luigi Dallapiccola and Pierre Boulez, tied to the Accademia Filarmonica Romana season.
For popular music, the theater's memory keeps Marillion in February 1988, Lucio Dalla with Henna in April 1994, Pooh with Musica dentro in October of the same year, Nomadi, Giorgio Gaber with Un'idiozia conquistata a fatica in January 1998. Dance has brought here Baryshnikov, Joaquín Cortés, Lindsay Kemp, Maurice Béjart, the Bolshoi, Antonio Gades and Momix. The theater also remembers Dario Fo and Nicola Piovani.
But comedy is the thread that leads to the PanPers. Gigi Proietti with A me gli occhi in May 1996, and then Enrico Brignano, Vincenzo Salemme, Aldo, Giovanni e Giacomo, Neri Marcorè, Ale e Franz, Gioele Dix, Cinzia Leone, Lillo e Greg, Max Giusti, Maurizio Battista. It is striking how many of these names are duos or trios: Ale e Franz, Lillo e Greg, Aldo, Giovanni e Giacomo. For decades Olimpico has been a home for group comedy, and the PanPers enter with all the credentials.
In the same season, among others, passing through here are Maurizio Battista with Se non vinco... imparo, Angelo Pintus with Loro non sanno niente, Momix with Botanica and, right before the PanPers, Coppia aperta quasi spalancata with Chiara Francini and Alessandro Federico.
The Flaminio area around Teatro Olimpico
Teatro Olimpico is in the Flaminio neighborhood, north of Piazza del Popolo, in an area that in the last 20 years has become one of the city's cultural hubs.
Ponte della Musica and Foro Italico
In front of the theater Ponte della Musica leads to the other bank, to the Foro Italico, built in the same years as Olimpico. Those who arrive an hour early can take a walk among the 1930s architecture.
Auditorium and MAXXI
A short distance away are Auditorium Parco della Musica and MAXXI. An exhibition in the afternoon and the PanPers in the evening make a sensible pairing for those coming from out of town.
Ponte Milvio and Piazza del Popolo
Going up the Tiber you reach Milvian Bridge, with its piazza full of places. In the opposite direction, along Via Flaminia, you find the Etruscan Museum of Villa Giulia and Piazza del Popolo.
How to organize an evening with the PanPers
An evening with the PanPers at Olimpico, on a Tuesday or Wednesday, is organized by a simple rule: arrive unhurried, have dinner afterward.
Before the show
Around the theater, between Piazza Mancini, Via Flaminia and Piazza Gentile da Fabriano, there are pizzerias, trattorias and cafés frequented by the audience of the theater and of the Auditorium. For a 20:30 performance a quick meal at 19:00 is the most practical solution.
After the show
You get out around 22:00. Ponte Milvio, with its piazza full of places, is a few minutes away by taxi. Those who prefer a neighborhood trattoria do well to reserve anyway.
Accessibility
Those with reduced mobility needs should contact the box office before buying, at biglietti@teatroolimpico.it, to learn about suitable seats and access arrangements. The orchestra is sloped and the gallery is on the upper floor: elements to consider in choosing the section.
With teenagers
The PanPers have a young audience, built between Colorado, the web and channels for kids like Disney Channel and Boing. For a teenager who follows them it's an excellent first live comedy show. With small children consider the time: you get out at 22:00 on a school night.
March in Rome
Mid-March is a quiet period for Rome: evenings are still cool, the city works at full pace and the big Easter flows haven't arrived. A light overcoat and an umbrella are enough.
