Date and times
A single Rome night, Sunday, November 22. Largo lists doors opening at 20:00, in Sala Main. The exact start time of the concert isn't published: it's best to go in when doors open, also to pick your spot on a night when listening matters more than dancing.
Tickets
The ticket costs 28.75 euros, a price the authorized circuit presents as final. You buy it from the night's page on the Largo website, which links to the circuit. The ticket is digital.
Adults only
The seller lists the event as 18+. You need ID at the entrance.
What you'll hear
The official description is clear: Grace played in full, respecting its raw beauty and emotional intensity, then other songs that show the expressive range of Buckley. Not a night of scattered covers, but the reconstruction of a record.
Who Slow Pilot are
Slow Pilot are a Belgian band that brings the music of Jeff Buckley to the stage. The voice is that of singer Pieter Peirsman.
A band for a single repertoire
The description of the night calls Slow Pilot a band that approaches Buckley with deep respect and musical precision, and goes as far as saying that, as far as the organizers know, they are the only band in the world able to truly awaken his soul, mystery and magic. It's a promotional claim, to be taken as such, but it describes well the ambition of the project.
The voice of Pieter Peirsman
The declared strong point is the voice of Pieter Peirsman, which according to the same description comes close to Buckley's to the point of being almost eerie. If you know Grace, you know how hard it is: a wide range, shifts from a whisper to a scream, falsettos that hold entire phrases. Live, the comparison will be inevitable.
The format
The concert follows the order of the record, from the opening to the closing track, and then continues with a selection of other songs from Buckley's repertoire. If you've worn out Grace on headphones, it's a different way to hear it again: in sequence, live, with a room around you.
Who Jeff Buckley was
Jeffrey Scott Buckley, known as Jeff, born in Anaheim on November 17, 1966 and died in Memphis on May 29, 1997, was an American singer-songwriter and guitarist, the son of singer-songwriter Tim Buckley.
Childhood in California
The only child of Tim Buckley and cellist Mary Guibert, Jeff grew up with his mother, his stepfather Ron Moorhead and his half-brother Corey, moving among several towns in Orange County. His father left the family before he was born. As a child he went by Scott Moorhead. The first record he owned was Led Zeppelin's Physical Graffiti, a gift from his stepfather. At five he started on acoustic guitar, at 12 he decided to become a musician.
From guitar school to the Los Angeles clubs
After graduating from Loara High School in 1984 he moved to Hollywood and spent a year at the Guitar Institute of Technology. Between 1986 and 1990 he worked in a Los Angeles hotel and played on the local circuit, across jazz, rock and heavy metal. He toured with reggae musician Shinehead.
New York and the tribute to his father
In 1990 he moved to New York, where he discovered qawwali and Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. On April 26, 1991 he made his public debut at St. Ann's Church in Brooklyn, at the tribute concert Greetings from Tim Buckley organized by Hal Willner. With Gary Lucas on guitar he sang songs by his father, including I Never Asked To Be Your Mountain, and closed with Once I Was a cappella, after a string broke.
Sin-é
From 1992 he performed solo in Manhattan clubs, above all at Sin-é, a small Irish venue in the East Village, where he played every Monday. The repertoire ranged from folk to jazz, with covers of Led Zeppelin, Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Bob Dylan, Édith Piaf, Leonard Cohen, Nina Simone. In October 1992 he signed with Columbia. On October 23, 1993 the EP Live at Sin-é came out.
Grace, the record you'll hear at Largo
Grace came out on August 23, 1994 on Columbia: seven original songs and three covers, including the version of Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah that Rolling Stone placed among the 500 greatest songs of all time.
The recordings
The record was made with producer Andy Wallace, bassist Mick Grondahl and drummer Matt Johnson, recorded starting in September 1993 at Bearsville Studios in Woodstock, with Gary Lucas on some guitar parts and Karl Berger on the arrangements. After the first European tour guitarist Michael Tighe joined the band, and with him came So Real, added to the album.
The songs
Among the original songs are Mojo Pin and Grace, written with Gary Lucas, and Last Goodbye, born as Unforgiven in the first demo. The three covers are Lilac Wine, based on Nina Simone's version, Benjamin Britten's Corpus Christi Carol and Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah. The album also has Lover, You Should've Come Over, one of the songs listeners love most.
The reception
Critics were enthusiastic. The record went gold in France and Australia, then in the United States, and in Australia it reached six times platinum in 2006. Jimmy Page called it his favorite record of the decade, David Bowie put it among the 10 records to take to a desert island, Bob Dylan called Buckley one of the great songwriters of the decade.
The awards
In 1995 the Académie Charles Cros awarded Grace the Grand Prix International du Disque. In 2003 Rolling Stone placed it at number 303 among the 500 greatest albums of all time. In 2006 Mojo magazine voted it the number one modern rock classic. In 2008 Rolling Stone placed Buckley at number 39 among the 100 greatest singers.
After Grace: the tours, the Sketches, the end
After the release of Grace, Jeff Buckley spent almost two years on tour across Europe, North America, Japan and Australia, and in 1997 he worked in Memphis on his second album, which would remain unfinished.
The concerts
Between 1994 and 1996 he played in many countries: Glastonbury and the Meltdown Festival in 1995, where he sang Purcell's Dido's Lament at the invitation of Elvis Costello. The Bataclan and the Olympia in Paris, Édith Piaf's theater. The Australian tour called Mystery White Boy. His only Italian dates were at Vidia Club in Cesena, on February 17, 1995, and at the Correggio festival, on July 15, 1995.
Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk
In 1996 and 1997 he worked on new songs, first in New York with Tom Verlaine, then in Memphis, where he played the unreleased songs at Barristers' bar and called back Andy Wallace. The record would come out posthumously in 1998 with the title Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk.
May 29, 1997
On the evening of May 29, 1997, at 30, Buckley waded fully clothed into the Wolf River, a tributary of the Mississippi, and disappeared. His body was found on June 4. The autopsy ruled out alcohol and drugs and the case was closed as accidental drowning. His mother stated in a press release that there was nothing mysterious about it. The funeral was held on August 1 at St. Ann's Church in Brooklyn, where his career had begun.
The posthumous records
After his death several albums came out: Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk in 1998, the live albums Mystery White Boy and Live a L'Olympia, the expanded edition of Live at Sin-é, Grace Around the World. In 2016 came You and I, with covers of Bob Dylan, The Smiths and Sly and The Family Stone and material recorded in February 1993, a few months before the Grace sessions. Buckley's catalog has thus become much larger than what he himself released: a single studio album in his lifetime, nine records in all.
The influences
Among the voices Buckley cited as influences are Joni Mitchell, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Patti Smith and Siouxsie Sioux. About the last of these he went as far as saying that his voice was heavily influenced by hers. In the Sin-é years he also listened to Van Morrison and Judy Garland. It's a list that explains the variety of Grace, where an English sacred song, a Cohen song and electric guitar rock live side by side.
It's Never Over, Jeff Buckley: the documentary
The description of the night mentions the release of the documentary It's Never Over, Jeff Buckley, well received and able, according to the organizers, to rekindle interest around the world in the singer-songwriter's life, voice and artistic depth.
A new audience
The documentary brought Buckley to viewers who had never heard him, alongside people who have carried his songs with them for 30 years. It's this double audience, according to the description, that keeps his legacy more and more alive internationally.
From the film to the club
If you've seen the documentary, the Largo night is the next step: hearing Grace live, in sequence, played by a band. In our view it's worth seeing the film again, or at least listening to the record again, in the days before.
A curious fact about Jeff Buckley, A Celebration of Grace by Slow Pilot at Largo Venue on November 22, 2026
The most surprising curious fact is about Italy. On the European tour for Grace, Jeff Buckley played in Italy only twice: at Vidia Club in Cesena on February 17, 1995 and at the Correggio festival on July 15 of the same year. No Rome date. The tribute at Largo, 31 years later, brings to the capital a record that its author, on that tour, didn't bring here.
The second curious fact is about the singer's name as a boy. Until his father's death, in 1975, Jeff went by Scott Moorhead, with his stepfather's surname. Afterward, he officially chose the name on his birth certificate, Jeffrey Scott Buckley, but in the family he remained Scotty.
The third is about his last period of concerts. In the winter between 1996 and 1997 Buckley played small cafés in New England under made-up names, including The Crackrobats, Possessed by Elves and Father Demo, to find again, as he wrote, the precious luxury of risk and failure in front of an audience that didn't know him. For an artist already celebrated, it was the search for a small stage: a club, exactly like Largo.
Largo Venue, the room for the night
Largo Venue is a live music club created from the conversion of a former industrial shed at Via Biordo Michelotti 2, between Pigneto and Via Prenestina, listed by the Roma Capitale tourism portal as an urban regeneration project.
An industrial building turned into a music hall
The neighborhood portal describes Largo Venue as a space rescued from decay with greenery, creativity and culture. Today the shed houses a hall built for concerts, with a calendar that alternates live music, DJ sets and cinema.
The spaces
The venue has Sala Main, where the Grace tribute takes place, the outdoor Garden, the Rumah room and O'Bistrot, the food spot with its menu on the website. On a Sunday at the end of November the garden is mostly a place you pass through, on arrival and on the way out.
Contacts
Largo answers at 06 59875966 and at info@largovenue.com. It's run by Prenestepop, which also presents the night.
Something nobody tells you about Jeff Buckley, A Celebration of Grace by Slow Pilot at Largo Venue on November 22, 2026
What people rarely say is that Grace is an almost impossible record to sing. Whoever takes it on has to handle in a single night Benjamin Britten's Corpus Christi Carol, Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah, Nina Simone's Lilac Wine and the original songs written for that voice. That's why tributes to Buckley are rare and often disappointing. Slow Pilot's bet rests entirely on the voice of Pieter Peirsman: the description promises an almost eerie resemblance, and the audience will be the judge.
The second thing nobody says is that a band playing an album in full takes the surprise of the setlist out of the concert. You know in advance what you'll hear, and in what order. It's an advantage if you want to relive the experience of the record, a limit if you're looking for the unexpected. The second part of the night, with other songs from Buckley's repertoire, is the space where the band gets to choose.
Third thing, a practical one: it's a Sunday night and the event is for adults. A concert that starts around 20:00 and lasts as long as an album and a few more songs ends at a reasonable hour if you work on Monday.
How to get to Largo Venue for the Grace tribute
Largo Venue is at Via Biordo Michelotti 2, near Largo Preneste, in Municipio V. The metro C stops to use are Pigneto and Malatesta.
Metro C
Rome's tourism portal lists the Pigneto and Malatesta stops on line C. From the center, take metro A to San Giovanni and change. On Sunday evenings, check the time of the last run on the ATAC website.
Surface transportation
Several lines run along Via Prenestina, day and night. The ATAC journey planner is the tool to pick the most convenient one and for the way home.
Car and taxi
By car you come from Prenestina or Casilina. On Sunday evenings finding a spot in the streets of Pigneto is less complicated than on Saturday, but it's best to arrive with time to spare. Rome's radio taxi answers at 060609: for the way out, better to book a few minutes ahead.
My advice for Jeff Buckley, A Celebration of Grace by Slow Pilot at Largo Venue on November 22, 2026
My advice is to listen to Grace again in its original order, from Mojo Pin to the end, in the days before the concert. The night follows the sequence of the record: knowing it lets you follow the concert like a story, knowing in advance when the covers come and when the original songs do.
The second piece of advice is to pick your spot for listening, not for seeing. In the middle of the room, a few meters back from the stage, the voice and guitars arrive balanced. Right under the stage you mostly hear the nearest amplifier. For a concert built on a voice, the center is the right place.
The third piece of advice is about Hallelujah. It's the song everyone is waiting for, and the moment when many raise their phones. My advice is not to: hearing it with no screen in front of you, in a silent room, is worth more than any video.
Last piece of advice: buy your ticket in time on the authorized circuit, from the official Largo page, bring ID for the entrance and arrive when doors open at 20:00.
Another well-known fact, and yet not often mentioned
It's well known that Hallelujah is a Leonard Cohen song and that Jeff Buckley's version is the most famous. It's mentioned much less that Buckley built it from a long habit of playing covers in small New York clubs, where every Monday at Sin-é he played songs by Cohen, Dylan, Piaf and Nina Simone. That version is the fruit of nights in front of a few dozen people, not of a recording studio.
Another well-known and rarely remembered fact is that Grace had its first success outside the United States. It went gold in France and Australia before it did at home. In Australia, after the Mystery White Boy tour, it passed 35,000 copies and years later reached six times platinum. In his lifetime Buckley was more famous in Paris and Sydney than in Los Angeles.
Third fact: everyone knows Buckley is the son of Tim Buckley. Less often remembered is that he met him only a few times, and that the 1991 tribute concert in Brooklyn was for him, as he told Rolling Stone, the way to say a last goodbye to a father whose funeral he hadn't attended. From that concert, in the same church where years later his own funeral would be held, his career began.
Pigneto and the area around Largo Venue
Largo Venue is in the Pigneto area, east of Termini station, between Via Prenestina and Via Casilina: a neighborhood of residential streets, bars, trattorias and cultural spaces.
Toward Porta Maggiore
Heading toward the center you reach Porta Maggiore and the Underground Basilica of Porta Maggiore, open by reservation on scheduled days.
A Sunday between San Lorenzo and Pigneto
To the north, beyond the tracks, San Lorenzo with the basilica of San Lorenzo fuori le Mura. A Sunday afternoon between the two neighborhoods is a good lead-in to the night.
Aqueducts and mausoleums
Along Casilina is the Mausoleum of Saint Helena. Farther southeast, the Aqueducts Park is the ideal destination for Sunday morning, before the concert.
How to plan the Grace Sunday night
With doors at 20:00, the Grace night at Largo shapes up as an aperitivo in Pigneto, the concert and a late dinner or an early trip home.
Before
Arriving in Pigneto around 19:00 gives you time for an aperitivo or a snack and to go in when doors open.
During
The concert is standing: comfortable shoes, a jacket to hold or to leave at the coat check if available, a charged phone for the ticket and ID.
After
Monday looms: if you're going home by public transportation, check the last metro C runs and the night lines on the ATAC planner beforehand.
If you're coming from outside Rome
If you're coming from outside the city for the Grace tribute, you can pick lodging near a metro C or metro A stop, so you can get back without a car. Pigneto is a few minutes from San Giovanni, and from there to the rest of the network. On Monday morning, before leaving, Parco degli Acquedotti or Porta Maggiore are a short distance away.
Where to eat before the concert
Largo Venue has its own food spot, O'Bistrot, with a menu published on the venue's website: the simplest solution for eating something without going out.
In the neighborhood
Pigneto offers trattorias, pizzerias, osterias, international cuisine and bars, concentrated around the metro C stop. On Sunday evenings many are open, but booking is still wise.
After the concert
If you'd rather eat afterward, you'll still find a few kitchens open in the neighborhood, but on Sundays they close early: better to check beforehand.
The right photo to take at Jeff Buckley, A Celebration of Grace by Slow Pilot at Largo Venue on November 22, 2026
On a night devoted to Grace, the right photo is taken before the band takes the stage: the room in half-light, the microphone in the middle, the guitars leaning against the amplifiers. It's the image of anticipation, and it tells better than any close-up what it means to listen to a record from start to finish.
During the concert, the moment is the instrumental codas of the longer songs, when the lights widen and the room fills with haze: from the center, a few meters back, with the heads of the audience backlit. No flash, and few photos: the voice of a singer imitating Buckley should be listened to, not filmed.
Outside, on arrival, the Largo sign with the garden lit up on a November evening. And for collectors, the official artwork of the night published by Largo, to keep with the ticket.
Accessibility, age and practical tips
For accessibility at Largo Venue and routes for people with disabilities, it's best to contact the venue at 06 59875966 or write to info@largovenue.com before the night.
Age
The seller lists the Grace tribute as an event for adults: no minors, and ID in your pocket.
What to bring
The digital ticket on a charged phone, ID, a heavy jacket for a late November evening, and if you're sensitive to volume a pair of musician's earplugs.
Some important events that happened here in history
The history of Largo Venue is one of reuse: an industrial shed in an area of Rome that for decades was made of warehouses and workshops, reopened as a cultural venue with a concert hall, a garden, a food spot and a calendar of music, DJ sets and cinema. The neighborhood portal calls it a space wrested from decay.
The history of the record that plays there on November 22 has its dates. On November 17, 1966 Jeff Buckley was born in Anaheim. On April 26, 1991, at St. Ann's Church in Brooklyn, he debuted at the tribute to his father. In April 1992 he started playing at Sin-é, in October he signed with Columbia, on October 23, 1993 Live at Sin-é came out. On August 23, 1994 Grace came out. On April 13, 1995 the record received the Grand Prix International du Disque from the Académie Charles Cros. On February 17 and July 15, 1995 Buckley played in Italy, in Cesena and Correggio.
On May 29, 1997 Buckley disappeared in the Wolf River in Memphis. On June 4 his body was found, on August 1 the funeral was held in Brooklyn. In 1998 Sketches for My Sweetheart the Drunk came out, in 2016 You and I. On November 22, 2026, five days after what would have been his 60th birthday, Grace plays again in a Pigneto club.
Who has played Jeff Buckley, A Celebration of Grace by Slow Pilot at Largo Venue on November 22, 2026
International, Italian and Roman artists pass through Largo's Sala Main. In autumn 2026 the calendar has hosted, among others, the English band Haken, the Americans The Lemon Twigs and the Argentine La Yegros. The day before the Grace tribute, Saturday, November 21, the same room welcomes Swiss singer-songwriter Veronica Fusaro. In January 2027 Leon Faun is expected.
With Grace, the names who made that record ideally pass through Largo: Jeff Buckley, producer Andy Wallace, Mick Grondahl on bass, Matt Johnson on drums, Michael Tighe on guitar, Gary Lucas, co-writer of Mojo Pin and Grace, Karl Berger on the arrangements. And the authors of the covers: Leonard Cohen, Benjamin Britten, and Nina Simone, whose version gave rise to Lilac Wine.
Also passing through are the musicians who loved that record, from Jimmy Page and Robert Plant to Bob Dylan and David Bowie, and the artists Buckley toured with, from Chrissie Hynde to Chris Cornell and The Edge. On stage, Pieter Peirsman and Slow Pilot, who came from Belgium to rebuild all this in one night.
Late November in Rome: the time of the concert
In late November Rome is in the middle of the indoor concert season, with cool and often damp evenings.
The weather
A folding umbrella and a waterproof jacket are useful for the walk between the metro and the venue.
A weekend at Largo
Saturday 21 Veronica Fusaro, Sunday 22 the Grace tribute: if you love singer-songwriters, you can spend two nights in a row in the same Pigneto room.

Final advice on the Grace tribute at Largo Venue
On the Grace tour, Jeff Buckley didn't come through Rome. 31 years after his only two Italian dates, a Belgian band brings that record to Pigneto, from start to finish, with a voice that promises to sound like his. My advice is to come prepared: listen to Grace again in its original order, go in at 20:00 with ID in your pocket, stand in the middle of the room and keep your phone in your pocket at least for Hallelujah. If Pieter Peirsman's voice lives up to the promise, it will be a Sunday to remember. If it doesn't, it will still be an hour in the company of one of the finest records of the 1990s.
