Across The Arts in brief: dates, venues, registration

Across The Arts 2026 is the second year of a two-year training program promoted by Dominio Pubblico ETS, run with Argot Studio, Theatron 2.0 and the Centro Giovani I Municipio, and winner of Roma Capitale's Roma Creativa 365 public call, in collaboration with Zètema Progetto Cultura.

The dates still on the calendar

The first workshop, Teatro e sport with the company Biancofango, took place on September 21 and 22 at Argot Studio. In October the three Theatron 2.0 days, the October 14 Open Day and the first of the three podcast Mondays were held. Still on the calendar are the other two Monday afternoons for the podcast, two days of theater criticism, a communication masterclass and two afternoons devoted to comics. The last event is Thursday, November 26.

How much it costs

Nothing. All Across The Arts activities are free. Free, though, doesn't mean open entry: booking is mandatory, and it goes through an email with your résumé.

Who it's for

Roma Capitale's cultural portal speaks of young artists, cultural workers and citizens, the Dominio Pubblico website of new generations. Matteo Fantozzi's masterclass is explicitly designed for under-25s. For the other workshops no age limits are published, and the registration email is the right moment to clarify requirements and number of places.

The two addresses

Teatro Argot Studio is at Via Natale del Grande 27, postal code 00153, a short walk from Piazza San Cosimato. The Centro Giovani I Municipio, Zalib, is at Via della Penitenza 35, postal code 00165, a side street off Via della Lungara. The two are about 20 minutes apart on foot across Trastevere.

The Across The Arts 2026 program, event by event

Dominio Pubblico's official calendar lists eight titles between September 21 and November 26, 2026, each with a different teacher or organization, and a common thread: offering tools for working in culture in different ways, from the stage to the page, from the voice to social media.

Teatro e sport, September 21 and 22

The opening workshop, from 10:00 to 17:00 at Argot Studio, was led by Francesca Macrì and Andrea Trapani of the company Biancofango. The course wove together writing, body, space and the relationship with the audience, with attention to shared creation and to the centrality of the actor. It's already over, but it says a lot about the tone of the program: you start from the body, before the words.

Dentro il sistema teatrale, October 8, 9 and 10

Three full days, from 10:00 to 17:00, at Argot Studio, run by Theatron 2.0, a publishing and training organization devoted to the performing arts. The Dominio Pubblico website also names Cesare D'Arco. The workshop covered what happens off stage: planning, organization, communication, distribution and sustainability of cultural projects. It was the only event with a dedicated registration address, formazione.theatron@gmail.com.

Open Day, October 14

The Open Day, from 18:00 to 20:00, was a midway meeting, led by Tiziano Panici for Dominio Pubblico, to present the following activities and let participants get to know each other. On the location the sources don't match: the calendar on the Dominio Pubblico website placed it at Spaziotempo, at Via Casilina Vecchia 42, while Roma Capitale's cultural portal listed it at the Centro Giovani on Via della Penitenza.

La voce dopo lo sguardo, October 26, November 2 and 9

Three Mondays, from 16:30 to 19:30, at Zalib, with Margherita Schirmacher. It's a podcasting workshop that explores the relationship between voice, storytelling and perception and gives participants the tools to build audio content. The title is a program in itself: first you look, then you tell it with your voice.

Il falso specchio, November 13 and 14

Two days, from 11:00 to 16:00, at Zalib, with Sergio Lo Gatto of Teatro e Critica. The subtitle is Leggere e comprendere lo spettacolo teatrale (Reading and understanding a theater performance): through viewing and writing exercises, the workshop builds a shared space of analysis and critical thinking around contemporary theater and dance.

Comunicare la cultura digitale, November 16

A four-hour masterclass, from 15:00 to 19:00, at Zalib, with Matteo Fantozzi of Generazione Magazine. The full title is Generazione Magazine, Comunicare la cultura digitale: informazione, social e community. Participants under 25 plan digital content to tell about and promote a cultural event, working on editorial line, social media, information and community building.

Dal segno alla pubblicazione (From the drawn line to publication), November 25

A masterclass from 15:00 to 18:00 at Argot Studio, with Stefano Piccoli of ARF! Festival: how to find your way in the world of comics, how the publishing system works, what the steps are between a drawn idea and a printed book.

Dentro la pagina, November 26

The next day, same time and same venue, Piccoli himself leads a hands-on comics workshop: the actual construction of a page, between drawing, lettering and layout. It's the closing of the program, and the most hands-on of the activities.

Dominio Pubblico ETS: who promotes Across The Arts

Dominio Pubblico ETS is the nonprofit organization that promotes Across The Arts, a two-year training program that in 2026 reaches its second year and that connects artistic practice, professional skills and the ability to tell the story of culture.

A broad idea of training

The presentation text on the Dominio Pubblico website starts from a clear premise: there's no single way of working in culture. From theater to podcasts, from comics to playwriting, from criticism to digital communication, Across The Arts aims to offer tools for finding your way in the galaxy of the performing arts. It's a position I share: whoever starts working in the performing arts today does three jobs at once, and the sooner they realize it the better.

The Roma Creativa 365 call

The project won the Roma Creativa 365, Cultura tutto l'anno public call, promoted by Roma Capitale, Department of Culture, in collaboration with Zètema Progetto Cultura.

The Across The Arts teachers: who they are

The Across The Arts 2026 teachers come from different worlds: an experimental theater company, a publishing organization on the performing arts, a radio host, a theater critic, a communication strategist, a comics artist who runs a festival.

Biancofango: Francesca Macrì and Andrea Trapani

Biancofango is a company founded in 2006 and active in research on the languages of the contemporary stage. Francesca Macrì and Andrea Trapani opened the program working on the relationship between theater and sport: the body, space, the relationship with the audience, the actor at the center. Opening with them was a choice of method.

Theatron 2.0 and Cesare D'Arco

Theatron 2.0 presents itself as a publishing and training organization devoted to the performing arts. With Cesare D'Arco it takes on the live performance system and offers emerging artists and companies the tools to manage, organize and communicate their work. It's three full days: the longest workshop of the program.

Margherita Schirmacher

Writer, radio host and curator of cultural events, Margherita Schirmacher is the founder of Ticket to Read and works across books, music, podcasts and audio reportage. She has worked with events like Più libri più liberi and the Salone Internazionale del Libro in Turin. Her workshop puts the voice at the center as a storytelling tool.

Sergio Lo Gatto

Theater critic, researcher and lecturer at Università degli Studi Link in Rome, Sergio Lo Gatto writes for Teatro e Critica and works on criticism, theater pedagogy and audience education. Il falso specchio is his home ground: teaching how to watch a show before judging it.

Matteo Fantozzi

Communication strategist, freelance journalist and founder of Generazione Magazine, Matteo Fantozzi leads the masterclass for under-25s on digital cultural communication: editorial line, social media, information, community.

Stefano Piccoli

Journalist and comics artist, Stefano Piccoli runs ARF! Festival. In the two sessions at the end of November he combines knowledge of the publishing sector and the practice of the drawn page.

ARF! Festival and comics within Across The Arts

The comics track of Across The Arts is part of the ecosystem of ARF! Festival, the Roman festival devoted to comics, illustration and visual storytelling run by Stefano Piccoli himself.

A festival of authors

ARF! was born as a festival of authors. It offers talks, exhibitions, workshops, portfolio reviews and moments of exchange with professionals in publishing and the creative sector, and works on every stage of production, from planning to publication. The link with Across The Arts brings this experience into the program.

Comics as a profession

The two days on November 25 and 26 are built in sequence. The first looks at the sector from above: publishers, paths, publication. The second gets down to the drawing table: drawing, lettering, layout. If you've been drawing alone for years and don't know where to start to get published, you'll find here the most concrete answer of the whole program.

A curious fact about Dominio Pubblico, Across The Arts at Argot Studio and Centro Giovani Zalib, September 21 to November 26, 2026

The curious fact is in the two venues. Teatro Argot Studio and Zalib are both in Trastevere, both in Municipio I, and both born from community stories. Argot is a hall that since the 1980s has been home to young Roman artists. Zalib was born from a school bookstore saved by students. Across The Arts, a program for the new generations, thus takes place in two places that the new generations have already helped keep alive.

The second curious fact concerns Zalib. Before arriving on Via della Penitenza, the bookstore was on Via della Gatta, near the Liceo Visconti. When its closure was announced in 2017, the kids who frequented it launched the SaveZalib campaign and raised almost 20,000 euros in less than a month. It wasn't enough to save the shop, but it was enough to create the association that since June 2018 has run the Centro Giovani of Municipio I.

The third curious fact is in the title of a workshop. La voce dopo lo sguardo, the podcast course, is held in a space that already hosts publishing and podcast activities: the Dominio Pubblico website describes Zalib as a space for gathering and cultural production devoted in particular to literature, podcasts and publishing. The choice of venue is consistent with the content, something less common than you'd think.

Teatro Argot Studio: the venue's history

Teatro Argot Studio is at Via Natale del Grande 27, inside one of the historic buildings of Trastevere, and is a small hall conceived and run since the mid-1980s by actor and director Maurizio Panici.

A cellar theater with over 40 years

Dominio Pubblico calls it a historic Roman cellar theater with over 40 years of activity. Critic Rodolfo di Giammarco, in the text published by Argot in the book devoted to its first 20 years, recalls a small hall in the Trastevere neighborhood that changed the map of the new scene in Rome.

A home for young artists

Panici's insight, according to di Giammarco, was to make the programming fluid and create a home for young artists, without demanding allegiance to this or that tendency of experimental theater. The result was to refresh the landscape of Roman cellar theaters, considered too elitist: shows, talks, plays written close to current events, cult actors, groups of artist friends.

Club culture and theater

Di Giammarco speaks of a club culture setting, in which artists, insiders and audiences were all responsible for new practices. Halls always packed, talked about, sought after. It's the description of a gathering place even before a theater, and it explains why Across The Arts, a training program, finds a natural home here.

Something nobody tells you about Dominio Pubblico, Across The Arts at Argot Studio and Centro Giovani Zalib, September 21 to November 26, 2026

What nobody tells you is that free with mandatory booking, in a training program, means selection. The request for a résumé in the registration email isn't a formality: the workshops have a group dimension, and the organizers want to know who they have in front of them. Writing two generic lines is the surest way to stay out.

My advice is to prepare a short résumé and an email with a precise reason: why that workshop, what you already do, what you want to learn. If you work in a company, write for a blog, host a show on a university radio station or draw comics, say so right away.

The second thing is that the times are designed for people who are free during the day. Theatron 2.0 took up Thursday, Friday and Saturday from 10:00 to 17:00. Il falso specchio takes Friday and Saturday from 11:00 to 16:00. For a student it's easy, for someone who works less so: look at the whole calendar and pick the afternoon events, like the Monday podcast or the two comics sessions.

The third thing concerns the October 14 Open Day, for which the sources listed two different locations, Spaziotempo and the Centro Giovani on Via della Penitenza: for the following events, it's best to wait for the organizers' confirmation of venue and time.

Zalib, the Centro Giovani of Municipio I

Zalib is the Centro Giovani of Municipio I at Via della Penitenza 35, a side street off Via della Lungara in Trastevere, where the association born from the school bookstore on Via della Gatta has operated since June 2018.

From bookstore to association

The Zalib school bookstore opened in 2000 on Via della Gatta, near the Liceo Visconti, in the old Collegio Romano. It was run by Marco Zavaroni. In October 2017 its closure was announced, and the kids who frequented it formed the group Zalib e i Ragazzi di Via della Gatta, with a crowdfunding campaign that raised almost 20,000 euros. The bookstore closed on November 17, 2017. The association didn't.

What the space is like

The center occupies three rooms, one inside the other, plus a garden, behind a gray door. By day it also works as a study hall. In the evening it hosts stand-up, book presentations, jam sessions, theater and exhibitions. In its early days it shared the space with Il Ventriloco, a seasonal Trastevere newspaper written by people under 35.

The 2026 activities

For 2026 the center's website presents the Zalib Informal Academy, with courses in publishing, film, art direction, urban art, motion graphics, music, 3D printing and electronic music, as well as a psychological counseling desk, a Punto Viola and the Goga Fest. It's an Arci club. In the same weeks as Across The Arts it also hosts nights like 365 Incubi.

The neighbors

A short walk away are the Casa Internazionale delle Donne at Via della Lungara 19, the Fondazione Volume! at Via di San Francesco di Sales 86 and, along the same street, Villa Farnesina and the Botanical Garden.

My advice for Dominio Pubblico, Across The Arts at Argot Studio and Centro Giovani Zalib, September 21 to November 26, 2026

My advice is to choose a path, not a single event. Across The Arts is built as a crossing: if you follow three or four linked workshops you get much more out of it than from one taken in isolation. Three combinations have an obvious logic.

The first is for those who do or want to do theater: if you took Dentro il sistema teatrale in October, Il falso specchio in November. You learn first how a show is organized and circulated, then how it's seen by those who have to write about it. They're two sides of the same craft, and together they give a view that few acting schools offer.

The second is for those who want to tell the story of culture: La voce dopo lo sguardo, three Mondays of podcasting, and Matteo Fantozzi's November 16 masterclass on digital communication. Voice and social media, audio and short writing: the tools with which an audience is built today.

The third is for those who draw: Stefano Piccoli's two afternoons on November 25 and 26, to do together, because the first explains the market and the second puts your hands on the page.

Write early: places in the hands-on workshops are limited by nature, and emails that arrive close to the date risk finding the group already formed.

How to sign up for Across The Arts

You sign up for Across The Arts by email, attaching your résumé: to info@dominiopubblicoteatro.it for all events except Dentro il sistema teatrale, for which the address is formazione.theatron@gmail.com.

The email

In the subject line it's best to give the title of the workshop and the dates. In the body: name, age, what you do, why you want to take part. Attach the résumé. For more than one workshop, one email per workshop is better, so each request reaches the right person.

The confirmation

Booking is mandatory for all activities. The organizers' reply is also the document that confirms venue and time: for the Open Day, for which the sources listed two locations, it was essential. The updated calendar is on the Dominio Pubblico website.

Another well-known fact, and yet not often mentioned

It's well known that Trastevere is one of the most visited districts of Rome. It's mentioned less that it's also one of the districts with the most small-scale spaces of cultural production: cellar theaters, clubs, bookstores, associations. Argot Studio and Zalib are two examples, about 20 minutes' walk from each other, one on the side of Viale di Trastevere and Piazza San Cosimato, the other on the side of Via della Lungara. Across The Arts networks them for an entire autumn.

A second well-known fact is that Roman cellar theaters were a fundamental season of Italian theater. Less mentioned is that the following generation, that of the 1980s, had to come to terms with their legacy. Rodolfo di Giammarco writes it about Argot: Maurizio Panici's hall refreshed a landscape of cellar theaters, glorious as they were, that was too elitist, without turning into a new catalog of trends. It's a lesson still useful for those starting out.

The third fact is that training in Italian theater increasingly goes through short, free courses, supported by public calls, like Roma Creativa 365. It's a model with limits, because it depends on yearly funding. But it lets those who can't pay for an academy come into contact with real professionals. Across The Arts, in the second year of a two-year project, is a good example of how this model can work.

Spaziotempo, the third location of the Open Day

Spaziotempo is the outdoor cultural space at Via Casilina Vecchia 42, in the former Circolo degli Artisti, which Dominio Pubblico's calendar listed as the venue of the October 14 Open Day, from 18:00 to 20:00.

The former Circolo degli Artisti

The Circolo degli Artisti, founded in 1989 on the initiative of Romano Cruciani, moved over the years to Via Casilina Vecchia and closed in 2015. In 2026 Roma Capitale, through a temporary concession call managed with Zètema, reopened the garden of about 4,000 square meters as a cultural space, with a stage, a square and areas for exhibitions and training.

Until October 30

Spaziotempo was open from September 4 to October 30, 2026, with a largely free program. In the same weeks it hosted, among other things, the Thursday night comedy series Tempo Comico.

A difference between the sources

Roma Capitale's cultural portal placed the Open Day at the Centro Giovani on Via della Penitenza, at the same time. Those who had signed up received the final indication from the organizers.

The right photo to take at Dominio Pubblico, Across The Arts at Argot Studio and Centro Giovani Zalib, September 21 to November 26, 2026

In a workshop the right photo isn't the teacher at the board: it's the work. On the day of the comics workshop, the photo to take is the half-finished page, with the pencil still resting on it and the lettering to complete. It's the image that tells the story of Across The Arts better than any poster, because it shows a process, not a result.

For the podcast workshop, try the opposite: no photos, but a recording. A few seconds of ambience, the Zalib room with the voices of the group, are a more faithful memory. Ask your classmates and the teacher for permission first: it's an elementary rule, and the very subject of a course on the voice.

Outside, the Trastevere photo to take is Piazza San Cosimato in the morning, before going into Argot, with the stalls of the neighborhood market being set up. On the other side of the district, Via della Penitenza seen from Via della Lungara, with the gray door of Zalib halfway down, is a Trastevere without crowds. And if you pass through Via Natale del Grande, frame the entrance of Argot: a small door for a hall that has come a long way.

How to get to Argot Studio and Zalib

Argot Studio, at Via Natale del Grande 27, can be reached according to the theater's website by tram 8 or buses 780, 75, H and 3. Zalib, at Via della Penitenza 35, is on a side street off Via della Lungara, on the other side of Trastevere.

The lines listed by the organizers

For the project venues the Dominio Pubblico website lists buses 23, 44, 75, 115, 280, 870, H, 8BUS and the night lines N3D and N3S, trams 3 and 8, metro A and the FL3 and FL5 regional trains. Roma Capitale's cultural portal gives a partly different list, with lines 40, 62, 64, metro B and the FL1 train: for the exact route from your starting point it's best to use the Rome transit company's journey planner.

For Argot Studio

The theater's website lists tram 8, a fast line linking the center with Trastevere, and buses 780, 75, H and 3. Landmarks on foot: Piazza San Cosimato, a short walk away, and the Ministry of Education building, about 300 meters away.

For Zalib

Via della Penitenza is a side street off Via della Lungara, in the stretch between Porta Settimiana and Regina Coeli prison. On foot from Argot you cross the district in about 20 minutes. From Campo de' Fiori you cross Ponte Sisto and Piazza Trilussa.

By car

Trastevere is largely a limited traffic zone. The Argot Studio website has a section on parking, but for workshops lasting several hours public transportation is still the simplest choice.

Trastevere around Across The Arts

Across The Arts takes place at two opposite points of Trastevere: Argot Studio on the side of Piazza San Cosimato and Viale di Trastevere, Zalib on the side of Via della Lungara, toward the Janiculum and the Vatican.

Between sessions

The long days of Theatron 2.0 and Sergio Lo Gatto have a lunch break. From Argot you reach the basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere in a few minutes. From Zalib you can climb up to the Janiculum or walk along Via della Lungara to Palazzo Corsini. A general guide to the district is on our page about what to see in Trastevere.

Where to eat near Argot Studio and Zalib

Around Argot Studio, Piazza San Cosimato offers the neighborhood market, bars and restaurants. Around Zalib, Via della Lungara and the streets toward Piazza Trilussa have trattorias, pizzerias and places for every budget.

The lunch break

For the days from 10:00 to 17:00 the San Cosimato market is the most practical solution: fruit, bread, something to eat sitting on a bench in the square. If you'd rather sit down, you'll find bars and trattorias in the surrounding streets, but at midday Trastevere is crowded even in autumn: better to organize as a group and book.

Accessibility and practical information

Across The Arts is free with mandatory booking. For accessibility needs the contact is the organizers, at info@dominiopubblicoteatro.it, to be reached when you sign up.

The venues

Argot Studio is a cellar theater inside a historic building. Zalib is laid out in three rooms, one inside the other, with a garden. Information on access for people with reduced mobility isn't published in the program: ask the organizers before signing up, stating your needs.

Some important events that happened here in history

The history of Argot Studio begins in the mid-1980s, when actor and director Maurizio Panici opened on Via Natale del Grande a small hall that, in the words of critic Rodolfo di Giammarco, would change the map of the new scene in Rome and in Italy. The Argot of those years was a place of plays close to current events, cult actors, groups of artist friends, adventures that later became national events. The association told the story of its first two decades in the book L'Argot... nostro contemporaneo, Venti anni di passione teatrale.

On the other side of the district, Zalib's history is more recent and just as clear-cut. In 2000 the school bookstore opened on Via della Gatta. In October 2017 its closure was announced. In less than a month the SaveZalib campaign raised almost 20,000 euros. On November 17, 2017 the bookstore closed anyway. In June 2018, thanks to Municipio I, the association found a home in the Centro Giovani at Via della Penitenza 35.

The third event concerns the program itself. In 2026 Across The Arts reaches the second year of Dominio Pubblico's two-year project, with the support of Roma Capitale's Roma Creativa 365 call. It's a small chapter in the history of two venues, but a meaningful one: for an entire autumn, a cellar theater born for young people and a youth center born from a bookstore work together on the same training project.

Who has passed through Dominio Pubblico, Across The Arts at Argot Studio and Centro Giovani Zalib, September 21 to November 26, 2026

Through Argot Studio, according to Rodolfo di Giammarco's account, for decades have passed young artists, cult actors, groups of friends who became companies, and a large new audience that kept the hall always packed. The key figure is Maurizio Panici, the actor and director who conceived and ran it from the mid-1980s, with the idea of a home for artists without trend banners. Di Giammarco himself, a theater critic, calls himself a regular witness of those seasons.

Through Zalib passed first the students of the Liceo Visconti, customers of Via della Gatta bookstore for almost 20 years, then the kids of the association, the editors of Il Ventriloco, and the audience of stand-up, jam sessions and book presentations.

In autumn 2026 Francesca Macrì and Andrea Trapani of Biancofango, Theatron 2.0 with Cesare D'Arco, Tiziano Panici, Margherita Schirmacher, founder of Ticket to Read, Sergio Lo Gatto of Teatro e Critica, Matteo Fantozzi of Generazione Magazine and Stefano Piccoli of ARF! Festival pass through these two venues. And above all the participants: young artists, cultural workers, students, people curious about cultural work. They, more than the teachers, are the real protagonists of a program called Across The Arts: crossing the arts, without stopping at just one.

Rome in autumn: the Across The Arts season

Across The Arts fills the Roman autumn, from late September to late November, the period when theaters reopen their seasons and the city returns to its working rhythm after the summer.

October

In October the days are still long and mild, and breaks outdoors in Piazza San Cosimato or in the Zalib garden are pleasant. It's also the month when the city has its busiest cultural calendar: if you're taking the November criticism workshop, you can use October to go to the theater and arrive at the course with a few shows in mind.

November

In November darkness comes early and rain is more frequent. The afternoon workshops end after dark, and it's best to have an umbrella in your backpack. On the other hand Trastevere, outside the most touristy weeks, goes back to being a district of those who live and work there.

Yes, each Across The Arts event is booked separately, with an email and your résumé. The program, though, is designed as a crossing of languages: following several linked workshops, for example organization and criticism, or podcasting and digital communication, gives a more complete result.

Final advice on Across The Arts

For those starting out, the most frequent question isn't about the show but about the profession: how you get there, who decides, who writes, who pays. Across The Arts answers that question in 10 weeks, for free, in two Trastevere venues that know young people well. My advice is clear: write right away for the workshop that interests you most and treat the registration email like a small job interview. It's the first exercise of the course.
