La cura comes from Concita De Gregorio's book of the same name, published by Einaudi Stile Libero in 2026. The Auditorium's presentation makes it clear right away: the journalist tells a story that is also her own, but it is not the diary of an illness. It is the account of how much meeting other people, inside a ward and inside an ordeal, makes you feel alive. Erica Mou's songs, originals and reinterpretations of classics, accompany the words like a film soundtrack.

Author and narrator Concita De Gregorio. Songs, vocals and guitar by Erica Mou. Just two voices on stage, one telling and one singing.

La cura: what the show is about

According to the official presentation, La cura tells of the time before and the time after: illness as an open door onto the abyss, and the discovery that even there life keeps teeming, surprising, revealing new worlds.

Not a diary of illness

Concita De Gregorio brings to the stage a story that is also her own, but the presentation insists: it is not the diary of an illness. It is the luminous account of how meeting the other makes us alive and human. In our view this is the key to approaching the evening without fear: not a show about pain, but about people.

The characters

The story features Angelina, who has the air of a gang leader and treats the other patients with a mother's tenderness. The Professor, who grew up in a small village in Aspromonte and became a luminary. A nurse who, to distract from fear, asks what your favorite song is and then sings it. A mother who leaves her children and husband a letter of instructions for finding things around the house.

A symphony of voices

There is laughter and wonder, tattooed eyebrows and carrot puree, intelligence and sensitivity that overturn the stereotypes about illness and care. And curiosity about others, because, the presentation says, it is always through other people's stories that we discover our own.

The meaning of the title

La cura means both treatment and attention to the other. In the presentation text the author concludes that, in the end, only this matters: taking care. The double meaning of the word carries the whole show.

Erica Mou's songs in the show

In La cura, Erica Mou's songs, original compositions and reinterpretations of classics, support the story like a film soundtrack and each time, the presentation says, tint it with a new meaning.

Voice and guitar

Erica Mou is on stage with voice and guitar: an essential accompaniment that leaves room for the words. It is the format in which the singer-songwriter began, before the records produced with big names.

Originals and classics

The setlist is not published. The presentation speaks of original songs and reinterpreted classics. Anyone who knows Erica Mou's repertoire knows that the singer-songwriter has already recorded covers extremely far apart from each other, from Pensiero stupendo to Azzurro, from Fleetwood Mac's Don't Stop to L'edera.

A recurring thread

The nurse who sings the patients' favorite song is one of the characters in the story. In our view she is also the key to the relationship between the two artists on stage. Music as an act of care.

Who is Concita De Gregorio

Concita De Gregorio, born in Pisa on November 19, 1963, is a journalist, writer and radio and TV host: a columnist for la Repubblica, she was the first woman to direct l'Unità, from 2008 to 2011.

Her origins

Born to a Spanish mother and a Tuscan father of Sicilian origin, she spent her childhood in Catalonia and then grew up in Livorno, where she attended the classical high school. She graduated in Political Science from the University of Pisa.

Journalism

She began in local Tuscan radio and television, joined Il Tirreno in 1985 and worked there for eight years between Piombino, Livorno, Lucca and Pistoia. In 1990 she won the Mario Formenton prize. In 1998 she arrived at la Repubblica, where she covered news and domestic politics.

L'Unità

On August 22, 2008 she was appointed editor of l'Unità, the newspaper founded by Antonio Gramsci: the first woman in that role. She stayed until July 7, 2011, then returned to la Repubblica. From April 2023 to February 2024 she directed the launch of Hollywood Reporter Roma.

Television and radio

From 2013 to 2016 she hosted Pane quotidiano, a literature and culture program, on Rai 3. Since 2018 she has hosted Cactus on Radio Capital with Daniela Amenta. In 2021 she hosted In onda on LA7 with David Parenzo.

Her books

Among her books are Non lavate questo sangue (2001, on the days of the Genoa G8), Una madre lo sa (a finalist for the Premio Bancarella), Malamore, Così è la vita, Mi sa che fuori è primavera (Premio Brancati 2016), Lettera a una ragazza del futuro, Un'ultima cosa (2022), Di madre in figlia (2025) and La cura (2026).

The other titles

The bibliography also includes Un paese senza tempo (2010), with the subtitle Facts and Figures in 20 Years of Italian Chronicles, Io vi maledico (2013), Un giorno sull'isola. In viaggio con Lorenzo (2014), Cosa pensano le ragazze (2016), and Nella notte and In tempo di guerra (2019). In 2020 she lent her voice to the audiobook of Valeria Luiselli's Archivio dei bambini perduti, and years earlier she had read her own Così è la vita for an audiobook.

Who is Erica Mou

Erica Mou, stage name of Erica Musci, born in Trani on April 6, 1990, is a singer-songwriter from Puglia who won the Critics' Award Mia Martini in the youth section at the 2012 Sanremo Festival.

The beginnings

She started her professional career in 2008 by winning several singer-songwriter song awards. In 2009 she released her first album, Bacio ancora le ferite, on a label specializing in jazz. Through Red Ronnie she met Caterina Caselli, who signed her to Sugar.

È and Sanremo

In 2011 È came out, produced by the Icelander Valgeir Sigurðsson, a former collaborator of Björk. At the 2012 Sanremo Festival she presented Nella vasca da bagno del tempo: she finished second in her section, but won the Critics' Award Mia Martini, the Press Room award and the Lunezia Prize.

The records

Next came Contro le onde in 2013, produced by Boosta of Subsonica, Tienimi il posto in 2015, Bandiera sulla luna in 2017, with the single Roma era vuota, Nature in 2021 and Cerchi in 2024.

Film and books

With Dove cadono i fulmini, from the soundtrack of Rocco Papaleo's Una piccola impresa meridionale, she was nominated for the 2014 David di Donatello for best original song. She appears in Quo vado? and in Figli, next to Valerio Mastandrea. In 2020 she published her first novel, Nel mare c'è la sete, with Fandango.

The collaborations

In September 2011 she was in the cast of the stage show Il bene mio, directed by Cosimo Damiano Damato, alongside Renzo Arbore, Lucio Dalla, Moni Ovadia and Lunetta Savino. The same year she played at the Hit Week Festival in the United States with Subsonica and Caparezza. In 2012 she took part in Meraviglioso Modugno at Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari and sang Io esisto, the theme of the Telethon campaign. In 2014 she sang a duet with Raphael Gualazzi for the soundtrack of Pupi Avati's Un ragazzo d'oro.

Theater

The theater stage is nothing new for Erica Mou: in 2013 she was a guest on Savino Zaba's Beato 'a' chi ti Puglia tour, and in 2014 she took part in the theater tour tied to Rocco Papaleo's film. La cura is the most recent point on this path.

De Gregorio and Mou: a partnership that returns

La cura is not Concita De Gregorio's first show with Erica Mou: in the 2022/2023 season the two artists had already brought to the theater Un'ultima cosa, based on the journalist's book of the same name, directed by Teresa Ludovico.

Un'ultima cosa

The full title was Un'ultima cosa, Five Invectives, Seven Women and a Funeral: De Gregorio on stage, with Erica Mou's live music. A show of words and music that toured Italian theaters.

Once again

The Auditorium's presentation uses exactly this expression: once again the two weave their voices together on stage. Anyone who saw Un'ultima cosa will find the same formula again, with a new and more personal theme.

The writer and the singer-songwriter

Erica Mou is also a novelist, and Concita De Gregorio has always worked with her voice, on radio and television. In our view that is why the dialogue between the two works: each knows the other's craft.

A curiosity about Concita De Gregorio and Erica Mou, La cura at Auditorium Parco della Musica, February 23, 2027

The most interesting curiosity concerns Concita De Gregorio's books. Many of her titles talk about care even before this one: Una madre lo sa, Malamore, Così è la vita, with the subtitle Learning to Say Goodbye, Di madre in figlia. La cura, in our view, is the culmination of a path 20 years long about bonds, loss and attention to others.

The second curiosity concerns Erica Mou and Rome. In 2018 the singer-songwriter released a single titled Roma era vuota, from the album Bandiera sulla luna. And in 2011 and 2013 she played at the Primo Maggio concert in Rome, the second time paying tribute to Lucio Dalla with the Grande Orchestra Rock conducted by Vittorio Cosma.

The third is a thread between the two: Erica Mou has written soundtracks for novels by Chiara Gamberale and Valentina Farinaccio. Putting music at the service of an author's words is a craft the singer-songwriter has practiced for years.

Sala Petrassi, where La cura takes place

Sala Petrassi is one of the three large halls of Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone, named after the composer Goffredo Petrassi and opened on April 21, 2002, the Natale di Roma (Rome's birthday), together with Sala Sinopoli.

A hall for theater

In the Auditorium's programming the Petrassi often hosts theater and spoken-word shows: in the 2026/27 season it stages, among others, Ghemon with La prima volta, l'ultima volta, l'unica volta on December 12, 2026 and Maurizio Nichetti with Occhi aperti! on January 27, 2027.

Renzo Piano's beetles

From outside the three halls look like three enormous beetles clad in lead on brick bases, arranged in a fan around the cavea named after Luciano Berio. Renzo Piano won the invitation-only competition in 1993 and worked with the acoustician Jürgen Reinhold of the Müller-BBM firm in Munich. The complex has its own page: Auditorium Parco della Musica.

Orchestra and balcony

The hall has an orchestra section and a balcony, with numbered seats. For a show of voice and guitar, the central orchestra is the best position for listening.

One thing nobody tells you about Concita De Gregorio and Erica Mou, La cura at Auditorium Parco della Musica, February 23, 2027

What is rarely said is how funny a show about illness can be. The presentation promises it: laughter and wonder, tattooed eyebrows and carrot puree. Anyone who fears a heavy evening is wrong. La cura, in our view, should be approached the way you approach a good book of stories: ready to be moved and to smile on the same page.

The second thing concerns the audience. For those who are living or have lived through an illness, their own or a loved one's, the show can touch deep chords. That is not a reason to skip it, on the contrary, but it is useful to know beforehand and to choose who to go with.

The third is about the calendar. La cura is on a Tuesday evening: at the end of February the Auditorium is less crowded than on weekends, and Sala Petrassi, an intimate hall, does justice to a show for a single voice.

The advice I give you for visiting Concita De Gregorio and Erica Mou, La cura at Auditorium Parco della Musica, February 23, 2027

My advice is to read the book afterward, not before. La cura came out with Einaudi Stile Libero in 2026: hearing the stories of Angelina, the Professor and the nurse in the author's voice, with Erica Mou's songs, and then finding them again on the page is the richest path.

The second piece of advice concerns the seat. In a spoken-word show, the central orchestra of the Petrassi is the best choice. With prices from €34.50, it pays to buy early to get the central rows.

The third concerns the time. The start is at 20:00 on a Tuesday: anyone leaving work downtown has to allow for the time of tram 2 or the 910 at rush hour. Arriving at 19:30 lets you settle in calmly.

Last piece of advice: go with someone you love. It is a show about caring for others, and you leave wanting to talk about it.

How to get to Auditorium Parco della Musica

Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone is reached by tram 2, stops Flaminia/Reni or Apollodoro, and by buses 910, 53 and 982. The nearest metro station is Flaminio, on line A.

Metro A and tram 2

From Flaminio station you exit onto Piazzale Flaminio and take tram 2, which runs along Via Flaminia toward Piazza Mancini. Get off at Flaminia/Reni or at Apollodoro and walk across the Olympic Village to Viale Pietro de Coubertin.

The 910 from Termini

Bus 910 leaves from Piazza dei Cinquecento, in front of Termini station, and reaches the Auditorium without transfers.

The 53 and the 982

The 53 connects Piazza Mancini and the center of Rome, and the 982 comes from the area around Viale XVII Olimpiade. The Atac route planner helps you choose the best combination.

By car

The stretch of Viale Pietro de Coubertin in front of the Auditorium is closed to cars. The complex has an internal pay parking lot with limited spaces.

The return

Tram 2 toward Piazzale Flaminio and then metro A, or a taxi booked in advance: on a Tuesday evening, getting out of the halls is generally quicker than on weekends.

Another well-known fact, yet not often cited

It is well known that Concita De Gregorio is a journalist. Much less often cited is that, when she was appointed in 2008 to direct l'Unità, she was the first woman to lead the newspaper founded by Antonio Gramsci, and that the news came out first in a magazine, Prima Comunicazione, prompting protests from the editorial committee. In 2010 the Associazione Nazionale Partigiani d'Italia awarded her the Renato Benedetto Fabrizi prize.

A second little-cited fact concerns Erica Mou: in 2011 she was nominated for the Premio Tenco as best debut album with È, but was excluded when the organizers discovered that the real debut was Bacio ancora le ferite, from 2009. A slip that says how early the singer-songwriter had started.

The third concerns the Auditorium: everyone knows it as the home of Santa Cecilia and of the Rome Film Festival. Fewer remember that Rome, after the demolition of the Augusteo in 1936, remained for more than 60 years without a hall built for music.

The right photo to take at Concita De Gregorio and Erica Mou, La cura at Auditorium Parco della Musica, February 23, 2027

During the show your phone stays off: in a show for a single voice a lit screen can be seen from the whole hall, and concentration is part of the experience. The right photo is taken beforehand, from the top of the cavea, with the three lead beetles lit up in the darkness of late February.

The second is the book's: a copy of La cura next to the ticket, at home, at the end of the evening. It is the most fitting souvenir of the evening.

The third is taken on the terrace overlooking the remains of the Roman villa discovered during construction, next to Sala Sinopoli: more than 22 centuries of history in one frame.

Some important events that happened here in history

The Auditorium area has a history much older than the complex. During the excavations for the foundations, the remains of a Roman villa built in the 3rd century BC came to light, on the site of a small archaic farm from the 6th century BC. Renzo Piano had to change the design: two of the three halls were moved to the west.

Modern history starts with a demolition. In 1936 the Augusteo hall, Rome's great concert hall, was torn down, and for more than 60 years Rome stayed without an auditorium built for music. In 1992 the city council chose the Olympic Village area, and in 1993 Renzo Piano won the invitation-only competition.

On April 21, 2002 Sala Sinopoli and Sala Petrassi, where La cura takes place, were inaugurated, and on December 21 of the same year Sala Santa Cecilia. Since 2003 the Auditorium has been the home of the season of the Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia, since 2006 it has hosted the Rome Film Festival, and in 2020 the city council decided to name it after Ennio Morricone.

Who has passed through Concita De Gregorio and Erica Mou, La cura at Auditorium Parco della Musica, February 23, 2027

In more than 20 years, musicians, actors and storytellers of every kind have passed through the Auditorium's halls. In the theater programming of the 2026/27 season there are Ghemon in Sala Petrassi on December 12, Silvia Gallerano and Cristian Ceresoli with La rivolta della gioia at Teatro Studio Borgna from December 18 to 20, Antonio Scurati with Democrazia: storie di donne e uomini in Sala Santa Cecilia on December 21, and Edoardo Leo with Ti racconto una storia on the night of December 31.

In the other halls, in the same season, among others come Patti Smith, with a show of words and music, and Macy Gray.

With La cura, ideally, the people of the story pass through Sala Petrassi too: Angelina, the Professor from Aspromonte, the singing nurse, the mother of the letter of instructions. And the two artists' traveling companions: Teresa Ludovico, director of Un'ultima cosa. Caterina Caselli, Valgeir Sigurðsson and Boosta for Erica Mou. Daniela Amenta and David Parenzo, Concita De Gregorio's co-hosts.

Accessibility and practical information

For information on access to the halls and on seats for people with disabilities, the contact is Fondazione Musica per Roma, at info@musicaperroma.it, to be contacted before purchase.

People with reduced mobility

It is best to arrive well ahead of time and ask staff for the most convenient route to Sala Petrassi: between the entrance on Viale Pietro de Coubertin and the halls there are open spaces to cross.

With kids

A show about illness and care, told with a light touch, may interest older kids. For young children the evening is long and the theme is adult. The access rules for minors are those in the Auditorium's ticketing regulations.

The neighborhood around the Auditorium

The Auditorium covers about 55,000 square meters between Villa Glori, the Olympic Village, the Corso di Francia viaduct and Viale Maresciallo Pilsudski.

The Olympic Village

The Olympic Village is the neighborhood you walk through after getting off the tram. Not far away is Teatro Olimpico.

Toward the Tiber and Ponte Milvio

From the Auditorium you go down toward the river and the Ponte della Musica, which leads to Foro Italico. Farther north is Milvian Bridge.

Toward the center

Tram 2 takes you back to Piazzale Flaminio, the gateway to Villa Borghese.

Where to eat before or after the show

Inside the Auditorium there are a bar and a café in the foyer and a bar restaurant with street access too, the most convenient option for those coming straight from work.

In the neighborhood

Between the Olympic Village, Via Flaminia and Piazza Mancini there are pizzerias, trattorias and bars used mostly by residents.

Milvian Bridge

If you prefer to have dinner afterward, the widest choice is at Ponte Milvio. On a Tuesday evening you don't need to book far ahead, but a phone call avoids surprises.

How to plan the Tuesday evening of La cura

With a 20:00 start on a Tuesday, the La cura evening is organized around the trip from work or the hotel to the Auditorium, with a light dinner before or a proper dinner after.

From downtown

If you're downtown, take metro A to Flaminio and then tram 2: leave with a wide margin, because at 19:00 on a weekday public transit is running at the evening rush.

From Termini

If you're staying near the station, there is the 910, which reaches the Auditorium without transfers. It is the simplest solution for the trip back too.

After the show

A show like La cura makes you want to talk. In our view it is worth planning a dinner afterward, in the neighborhood or at Ponte Milvio, instead of rushing straight home.

The week of music

In the days before, the city offers a lot: on February 19 at Teatro Parioli Costanzo a tribute to Fabrizio De André, on the 20th at the Auditorium the Brazilian trio Dominguinho, on the 21st at Largo Venue the rock of Dirty Honey. And from that same February 23, at Teatro Vittoria in Testaccio, Ottavia Piccolo performs Donna non rieducabile.

Late February in Rome: when the show takes place

In late February Rome is in a low tourist season, with lengthening days and still-cool evenings: the right moment for theaters and concert halls without crowds.

The weather

February evenings are cool and sometimes damp: a heavy jacket is needed for waiting at the entrance and for the ride back on the tram.

A season of words

The Auditorium's 2026/27 season has many spoken-word and storytelling events, from Antonio Scurati to Edoardo Leo, from Maurizio Nichetti to Ghemon. La cura fits this line, with live music on top.
