Non tutte le suocere vengono per nuocere: the show
Non tutte le suocere vengono per nuocere is the title of the new comedy stage show by Arteteca, presented by the authorized presale circuit as the return to the stage of the duo known to the general public for Made in Sud and Mad in Italy.
The title
The title plays on a proverb everyone knows, the one according to which not all evil comes to harm, and moves it to the most classic figure of family comedy: the mother-in-law. It's a clear promise: an evening of couple comedy, built on the relationship with the other's family.
Comedy for the family
The authorized presale circuit presents Arteteca as known to the general public for their long-standing participation in successful television programs. It's comedy built for prime time, which in the theater addresses an audience of every age.
Enzo and Monica
In Arteteca's films and shows the characters carry the performers' real names, Enzo and Monica: a couple the audience has seen get engaged, get married and become a family. A mother-in-law, along this path, was almost inevitable.
A tour
Non tutte le suocere vengono per nuocere is on tour in the 2026/2027 season, and Rome is one of the stops: Teatro Italia hosts it for a single evening, which makes buying in advance advisable.
The plot
The detailed plot is not published by the official sources. The advice is to go to the theater without knowing too much: Arteteca's comedy lives on situations and misunderstandings, and surprise is part of the game.
Who Arteteca are: Enzo Iuppariello and Monica Lima
Arteteca are the Neapolitan comedy duo made up of Enzo Iuppariello and Monica Lima, a couple in life too, stars of three films for the cinema, a sitcom for Rai 2 and many seasons of Made in Sud.
Made in Sud
Arteteca are among the most representative comedians of Made in Sud: after the success of the 13th edition the program dedicated three monographic evenings to its main faces, and one of these was theirs. In the 15th and last edition, in 2022, they also co-hosted an episode alongside Clementino.
The cinema
The big-screen debut comes with Natale a Londra, Dio salvi la regina. In 2016 they star in Vita, cuore, battito, directed by Sergio Colabona and released on March 17. In 2018 in the sequel, Finalmente sposi, directed by Lello Arena and released on January 25, which grossed €1.1 million in the first two weeks.
Famiglia all'incontrario
In 2022 Rai 2 broadcast Famiglia all'incontrario, a miniseries in eight episodes aired on Saturday afternoons, from 16:25 to 17:00, with Arteteca and their daughter Sara, together with Ciro Ceruti and Giulia Sara Salemi. It's proof that, for the duo, family is both a comic theme and everyday reality.
The saga of Enzo and Monica, from cinema to theater
From 2016 to today Arteteca have built, film after film and show after show, the story of a Neapolitan couple who grow up together with the audience.
Vita, cuore, battito
In the 2016 film Enzo is a clerk in a clothing store and Monica a hairdresser and beautician, two engaged 30-somethings from the outskirts of Naples. Enzo's boss wins a cultural trip to Florence, Barcelona and Formentera in a gambling den, and the couple leaves: two fish out of water among museums and beaches.
Finalmente sposi
In the sequel Monica decides to get married and organizes everything, Enzo counts the debts. A few days before the wedding the shopping center where they work closes, and instead of the trip to Miami the two take a bus to Wolfsburg, in Germany, where their cousin Ciro is waiting for them.
In the theater
In Rome Arteteca have already come through in the 2026/2027 season with Operazione Cicogna at Nuovo Teatro Orione, the comedy in which the couple looks for a child. With Non tutte le suocere vengono per nuocere they return to the city with a new title and in a bigger hall.
Angiolo Mazzoni, the architect of Teatro Italia
Angiolo Mazzoni, born in Bologna on May 21, 1894 and died in Rome on September 28, 1979, was one of the major designers of public buildings, stations and railway and postal buildings of the first half of the 20th century.
His Roman training
Having moved to Rome with his family in 1905, he enrolled in 1914 at the School of Engineering Application. He was influenced by the teaching of Vincenzo Fasolo and Gustavo Giovannoni, and from 1920 he spent over a year in the studio of Marcello Piacentini.
The railways' architect
Hired by the Railways in 1921, in March 1924 he was transferred to Rome, to the Works and Construction Service of the new Ministry of Communications. From there, starting with the Brennero station in 1926 and until 1943, he designed a long series of railway and postal buildings throughout Italy, from the Central Thermal Plant of Florence station to Bolzano station, from the post office building in Nuoro to those in Grosseto, Sabaudia, La Spezia, Latina, Ostia, Palermo and Trento.
An eclectic style
His work is hard to reduce to a single language: Futurist in the Calambrone colony, Rationalist in the postal building in Pola, Constructivist in the thermal plant in Florence. In 1933 he officially joined Futurism, after meeting Filippo Tommaso Marinetti. In Teatro Italia, according to the official website, elements of Liberty and Déco coexist.
Termini station
The most important commission was the design of the new Termini station, presented with a model at the 1939 New York World's Fair and interrupted in 1943. The side wings of the station, with the long series of arches echoing the theme of the Roman aqueduct, were built to his design.
Made in Sud, Arteteca's show
Made in Sud is the comedy program that made Arteteca popular: born in 2008 on Comedy Central, it aired on Rai 2 from November 7, 2012 to June 6, 2022, broadcast from the Rai production center in Naples.
The origins
The format, created by Ferdinando Mormone and Paolo Mariconda, debuted late at night on the thematic channel Comedy Central, then moved to MTV and returned to Comedy Central. It aired from Teatro Tam in Naples, hosted by Gigi and Ross and by Fatima Trotta.
The comedy of the South
Most of the program's comedians came from the Mezzogiorno, hence the title. In this context Arteteca became one of the most recognizable faces, up to the monographic evening dedicated to them.
Mad in Italy
The authorized presale circuit also recalls their participation in Mad in Italy, among the television programs that made them known to the general public.
Operazione Cicogna, the previous show
Before Non tutte le suocere vengono per nuocere, in the same Roman season, Arteteca staged Operazione Cicogna, a comedy in two acts written with Ciro Ceruti, who also directs it.
The plot
Enzo and Monica, a close couple but worn out by their attempts to have a child, are overwhelmed by misunderstandings on the day the home artificial intelligence announces the fertile window: Enzo's sister arrives, perhaps pregnant, and then camorristi, disguises and a visiting social worker.
Ciro Ceruti
Ceruti is the duo's longtime writing partner: he wrote the screenplays of Vita, cuore, battito and Finalmente sposi and, in the latter, plays the cousin Ciro who welcomes the couple in Germany. He is beside them again in the sitcom Famiglia all'incontrario.
From the stork to the mother-in-law
Those who saw Operazione Cicogna will find in Non tutte le suocere vengono per nuocere the same couple in a new chapter. Those who haven't will find a standalone show.
Teatro Italia today
Teatro Italia declares over 15 shows a month, in three halls, with a program that ranges from drama to dance, from concerts to musicals, from experimentation to theater in languages other than Italian.
The multipurpose rooms
Besides the main hall, the theater has two multipurpose rooms, with 80 to 90 and 45 to 50 seats, used for conferences, meetings, catering and theater and music lessons.
A theater for the university too
Teatro Italia also hosts university seminars and lectures: a vocation consistent with a neighborhood that hosts the Policlinico, a few minutes' walk from the theater.
A fun fact about Arteteca in Non tutte le suocere vengono per nuocere at Teatro Italia, April 9, 2027
The most likable fun fact is that Arteteca's characters age together with the actors. In 2016 they were two engaged 30-somethings from the outskirts. In 2018 they got married and lost their jobs at the same moment. In the 2022 sitcom they had a daughter, played by their real daughter, Sara. In the 2026/2027 season, in the theater, they look for a child in Operazione Cicogna and face the mother-in-law in Non tutte le suocere vengono per nuocere. It's a comic saga that follows the stages of a life, with the same names and the same pair of performers.
The second fun fact concerns television. In the 15th and last edition of Made in Sud, in the spring of 2022, Arteteca found themselves for one evening on the other side of the stage: they co-hosted an episode alongside Clementino, replacing the absent hosts. From comedians in the cast to hosts, on the same program that had made them popular.
Third fun fact: Teatro Italia, which hosts them, was inaugurated in 1930 with a concert by Pietro Mascagni, the author of Cavalleria rusticana. A theater born with classical music today hosts an evening of Neapolitan comedy: a sign of a hall that over the years has opened to every genre, from drama to concerts, from musicals to comedy.
Teatro Italia, a period theater in Nomentano
Teatro Italia is a period building at Via Bari 18, in the Nomentano neighborhood, with a main hall of about 800 seats divided between the orchestra and two balconies and two smaller multipurpose rooms.
Mazzoni, Vodret and Selva
According to the official website construction began in 1928, to a design by the architect Angiolo Mazzoni with the engineer Efisio Vodret and the sculptor Attilio Selva, who combined elements of the Liberty and Déco styles. The works, financed directly by the railway administration, were completed in a little over two years.
The inauguration with Mascagni
On June 1, 1930 Teatro Italia was inaugurated with a solemn ceremony and a concert by Pietro Mascagni, in the presence of the leadership of the Associazione nazionale. In the 1950s the theater was closed and turned into a cinema, the Universal.
The rebirth of 2006
In February 2006 the theater was renovated and reopened under the direction of Pietro Longhi. Today it hosts drama, dance, concerts, musicals, experimentation, theater in languages other than Italian, conferences, seminars and university lectures.
The foyer
Inside the foyer is a carefully furnished bar also organized for food service: a rare convenience for a neighborhood theater, useful for those coming straight from work on a Friday evening.
The hall
The main hall has 486 seats in the orchestra and 173 in the first balcony, in addition to the second balcony. The two multipurpose rooms have 80 to 90 and 45 to 50 seats. Overall the theater declares 772 seats across the three halls.
Something nobody tells you about Arteteca in Non tutte le suocere vengono per nuocere at Teatro Italia, April 9, 2027
What is rarely told is that Teatro Italia is a theater born from the railways. The official website recalls that the works were financed directly by the railway administration, and its designer, Angiolo Mazzoni, was for a large part of his career chief engineer of the Ferrovie dello Stato. The theater was part of the complex of the railway Dopolavoro of Rome, a building in which Mazzoni experimented with new technologies such as the reinforced-concrete frame.
The sources don't agree on the date: the theater's website places the start of the works in 1928 and the inauguration in 1930, while other entries on Mazzoni list the theater under the year 1925. In any case it's an early work by an architect who would later also sign the design of the side wings of Termini station, with the long procession of arches echoing the theme of the Roman aqueduct.
The practical detail few people know is the parking: the theater has an agreement with the garage at Via Como 60, 200 meters away, open until one in the morning, with a reduced rate of €3 an hour reserved for audience members.
How to get to Teatro Italia
Teatro Italia, at Via Bari 18, is outside the limited traffic zone and is reached by Metro B: about 450 meters from the Policlinico stop and 600 from the Bologna stop.
By metro
On Line B you get off at Policlinico, the nearest stop, or at Bologna. From both, the theater is a few minutes' walk. Those arriving from Termini station have Line B direct.
From the stations
The theater states that it is easily reachable by public transport from both Termini station and Tiburtina station: for those arriving by train from outside Rome it's an extra convenience. For buses, use the Atac calculator, which shows the fastest lines from each of the two stations.
The return
After the show, which ends late in the evening, it's best to check the last run times of Metro B on the Atac calculator, especially for those who have to change lines at Termini.
By car
Being outside the ZTL, the theater can be reached by car without permits. The affiliated parking is at Via Como 60, 200 meters away, open until one in the morning, with a rate of €3 an hour for audience members. The garage's number is 06 4958320.
My advice for visiting Arteteca in Non tutte le suocere vengono per nuocere at Teatro Italia, April 9, 2027
The advice is to turn the evening into a family outing, mothers-in-law included. A show titled Non tutte le suocere vengono per nuocere is the perfect occasion to bring the extended family to the theater: Arteteca's comedy, born on television and passed through the cinema, is meant for a wide audience, and laughing together at the flaws of a family on stage is the lightest way to recognize yourselves.
The second piece of advice concerns the seat. The premium VIP and premium orchestra seats, at €37 and €35, are the closest to the stage, and for comedy made of expressions and movement it's best to be close. The first balcony, at €30, offers a good overall view. The second, at €25, is the most economical choice for those going to the theater with friends or with a large family.
Third piece of advice: take advantage of the theater's location. Being outside the ZTL and near Metro B, Teatro Italia is one of the most convenient Roman theaters to reach. With the affiliated parking 200 meters away, even those coming from the province can come by car without problems.
Another well-known fact, yet rarely mentioned
That Arteteca are two faces of Made in Sud everyone knows. Less often remembered is that their television success was such as to deserve an evening all for themselves: after the 13th edition of the program, Rai 2 dedicated three monographic evenings to the most representative comedians, Arteteca, I Ditelo Voi and Paolo Caiazzo, and the first two aired in prime time.
A second little-cited fact concerns their cinema. Vita, cuore, battito, their first film as leads, comes after Natale a Londra, Dio salvi la regina, in which the duo had debuted on the big screen. The sequel, Finalmente sposi, was directed by Lello Arena and, according to the available data, exceeded 1 million 600 thousand euros in total box office.
And family, for Arteteca, is not just a theme: in the sitcom Famiglia all'incontrario their daughter Sara acts alongside her parents. A mother-in-law on stage, at this point, is almost a natural chapter of their story.
The right photo to take at Arteteca in Non tutte le suocere vengono per nuocere at Teatro Italia, April 9, 2027
During the show you don't take photos or film: the lights of phones disturb the actors and the audience, and the rights of the show are protected. The right photo is taken before or after.
The first is the facade of Teatro Italia on Via Bari, a period building that the official website describes as a synthesis of Liberty and Déco: an evening photo, with the sign lit up, conveys the atmosphere of the theater well. The second is the foyer with the bar, before the start, with the poster of the evening.
The third, for those with a sense of humor, is the family photo at the exit: son-in-law, daughter-in-law and mother-in-law together in front of the poster of Non tutte le suocere vengono per nuocere. It's the most fitting memento for an evening like this.
What to see around Teatro Italia
Teatro Italia is in the Nomentano neighborhood, between the Policlinico and Piazza Bologna, a short distance from some of the most particular places of 20th-century Rome and early Christian Rome.
Villa Torlonia
Not far away is Villa Torlonia, with the Casino Nobile and the Casina delle Civette: an afternoon at the park and the villa's museums is the best way to arrive at the evening.
Sant'Agnese and Santa Costanza
In the Nomentano area there are also the Basilica of Sant'Agnese fuori le Mura and the Mausoleum of Santa Costanza, two stops of early Christian Rome.
Porta Pia and Coppedè
Toward the center you reach Porta Pia. Farther north, the Coppedè neighborhood is a curious walk for those who love early 20th-century architecture.
Some important events that happened here in history
The history of Teatro Italia begins at the end of the 1920s, when, according to the official website, construction of the building starts to a design by Angiolo Mazzoni, with Efisio Vodret and the sculptor Attilio Selva. The works are financed by the railway administration, for which Mazzoni works as engineer and architect, and last a little over two years.
On June 1, 1930 the theater is inaugurated with a concert by Pietro Mascagni and a solemn ceremony in the presence of the leadership of the Associazione nazionale. In the 1950s the hall closes as a theater and becomes a cinema, the Universal, following the fate of many Roman halls of the postwar period.
In February 2006, after a renovation, Teatro Italia reopens under the direction of Pietro Longhi and goes back to hosting live shows of every kind, as well as conferences and university lectures. On April 9, 2027, almost a century after the inauguration, two Neapolitan comedians climb onto the stage that saw Mascagni with a comedy about mothers-in-law.
Who has passed through: Arteteca in Non tutte le suocere vengono per nuocere at Teatro Italia, April 9, 2027
Through Teatro Italia passed first of all the men who built it: Angiolo Mazzoni, railway architect and later designer of the side wings of Termini station. The engineer Efisio Vodret. The sculptor Attilio Selva. On June 1, 1930, for the inauguration, Pietro Mascagni stepped onto the podium.
In the years of the Universal cinema the hall welcomed the neighborhood's audience for screenings. Since 2006, with Pietro Longhi as director, drama, dance, concerts and musicals have returned, together with the students of the university lectures.
On April 9, 2027 Enzo Iuppariello and Monica Lima pass through Via Bari, Arteteca of Made in Sud, of Vita, cuore, battito and of Finalmente sposi, and with them, on stage, a mother-in-law: the most feared and most loved character of Italian family comedy.
How to organize the evening
With a start at 21:00 on a Friday, the Arteteca show lends itself to a full evening in the Nomentano neighborhood.
Before the show
An early dinner in Piazza Bologna or Policlinico area, or a snack at the theater's foyer bar, equipped for food service as well.
After the show
On the way out Metro B is a few minutes' walk away. Those who came by car find their car in the affiliated garage on Via Como, open until one.
With young people
Arteteca's comedy is meant for a wide audience, used to prime-time television: in our view the evening is suitable for young people too.
Where to eat before or after the show
Around Teatro Italia the offer is that of a residential and university neighborhood, with pizzerias, trattorias and places frequented by those who live in the area.
The theater's bar
The foyer hosts an elegantly furnished bar also organized for food service: a convenient solution for those coming straight from work.
Piazza Bologna
Piazza Bologna area, a few minutes' walk away, offers places for dinner before 21:00 or for an after-theater drink.
Accessibility and practical information
For the hall's accessibility for people with reduced mobility and for reserved seats, it's best to contact Teatro Italia at the contacts published on the official website, before buying.
The orchestra
Those with difficulty moving should choose the orchestra, with 486 seats, and ask the theater how to access the balconies before buying them.
Phones and filming
During the show the phone must be off: filming disturbs those on stage and the audience nearby, and in comedy made of timing it ruins the punchlines.
April in Rome: a spring evening
April 9, 2027 is a spring Friday: the evenings are mild and the Nomentano neighborhood, with its parks, invites a walk before the show.
The weather
In April temperatures are pleasant by day and cool in the evening: a light jacket is enough for the walk back to the metro.
The weekend
Those arriving from outside Rome can combine the Friday show with a weekend in the city, among Villa Torlonia, Coppedè and the historic center, reachable in a few minutes by Metro B.
