Roma Arte in Nuvola 2026, the sixth edition of the capital's international fair of modern and contemporary art, runs from Friday, November 20 to Sunday, November 22, 2026 at the Nuvola, the Rome Convention Center designed by Massimiliano Fuksas in EUR, with the entrance at Viale Asia 40 (00144 Rome). You get there on metro line B to EUR Fermi and a few minutes on foot, or on buses 30 and 714, which stop at Colombo/Europa, Europa/Boston, Europa/Colombo and Boston. Opening hours and prices haven't been published yet: the organizers will release them on the official fair website, which also gives access to the authorized presale network.

An art fair, for someone who isn't a collector, can seem like a place for insiders. In five editions Roma Arte in Nuvola has proved the opposite: in 2025 it topped 38,000 visitors. This year it brings about 140 galleries under Fuksas's glass case, Germany as guest country, the institutions of the Ministry of Culture and a tribute to Corrado Cagli on the 50th anniversary of his death. Our verdict is clear: for lovers of 20th-century and contemporary art, it's the November weekend to mark.

Roma Arte in Nuvola 2026: the essentials

Roma Arte in Nuvola 2026 lasts three days, from November 20 to 22, at the Nuvola in EUR. It was created and is directed by Alessandro Nicosia, promoted by EUR SpA, with artistic direction by Adriana Polveroni and a section curated by Pier Paolo Pancotto.

Dates

Friday the 20th, Saturday the 21st and Sunday, November 22, 2026. It's the sixth edition: the fifth was held from November 21 to 23, 2025. The fair has found its place in the Roman calendar in the second half of November, a period when the city has fewer tourists and more cultural life.

Hours and prices

At the end of September neither the fair's website nor EUR SpA's gave opening hours, and ticket prices aren't published. The fair's official website has a link to the authorized presale network. The hours will be found in the information section of the official website.

Who organizes it

The fair was created and is directed by Alessandro Nicosia and promoted by EUR SpA, the company that owns the Nuvola. Operations are handled by C.O.R. Creare Organizzare Realizzare, based on Via Archimede in Rome. Artistic direction is by Adriana Polveroni, and this edition adds a section curated by Pier Paolo Pancotto.

The presentation

The press conference presenting the 2026 edition was held on Tuesday, October 13 at 11:30 in the Sala del Tempio di Vibia Sabina e Adriano of the Rome Chamber of Commerce, in Piazza di Pietra. Check the new features presented on that occasion on the fair's official website.

What you'll see at Roma Arte in Nuvola 2026

At Roma Arte in Nuvola 2026 about 140 Italian and international galleries exhibit, divided into four sections, alongside institutional exhibitions, special projects, talks and performances.

Main Section

It's the core of the fair: national and international galleries active in both modern and contemporary art, from the historic avant-gardes to the most recent forms of expression. It's the section where, a few meters apart, you can come across a work from the 1930s and an installation from 2026.

Solo Show

A section reserved for monographic projects: each gallery presents a single artist, often young or emerging, with a group of works that lets you understand their research. If you're visiting without rushing, it's the most instructive part: one booth, one artist, a complete statement.

Photography

The section devoted to photography gives space to established masters and emerging voices, with a route that interweaves tradition and experimentation. Photography is the most accessible medium for those approaching collecting, also because of price.

New Entries

A section devoted to emerging and experimental outfits that pair traditional media with the languages of new media. It's the section to walk through with curiosity and without prejudice: here you see what in a few years will be in the main sections.

Germany, guest country of Roma Arte in Nuvola 2026

The guest country of the sixth edition of Roma Arte in Nuvola is Germany, with a project curated by Gregor Jansen and Julia Apitzsch and produced with the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Italy.

A tradition of the fair

Each edition invites a country. Before Germany, Israel, Ukraine, Australia and Portugal have been guests. In 2025 it was the turn of the Republic of Korea, with the exhibition «Fever State», part of the Korea Italy Year of Cultural Exchange 2024 2025, established for 140 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

Why it matters

Germany has for decades been one of the great markets for European contemporary art, with a very dense network of galleries, museums and foundations. A project curated and supported by the Embassy brings a piece of that scene to Rome. The curators' names are the only detail already published. Artists and works will be announced by the organizers.

Rome and Germany

The artistic relationship between Rome and Germany is very old: from the German artists of the 18th and 19th centuries who came to study in Rome to the foreign academies still active in the city. A fair that invites Germany to the Nuvola fits into a long history. Make the guest country's pavilion the first stop of your visit, while you're fresh.

The tribute to Corrado Cagli, 50 years on

Among the special projects of the sixth edition, Roma Arte in Nuvola pays tribute to Corrado Cagli on the 50th anniversary of his death, with a selection of sculptures and some previously unseen paper masks, in collaboration with the Archivio Corrado Cagli.

Who Corrado Cagli was

Corrado Cagli was born in Ancona on February 23, 1910 to a Jewish family and died in Rome on March 28, 1976. Five years after his birth he moved with his family to Rome, where he received a classical education and attended the Academy of Fine Arts. The writer Massimo Bontempelli was his uncle. By the mid-1920s he was already illustrating covers for a magazine for schools.

Umbertide and ceramics

In 1929 he began working in Umbertide, at the Rometti art ceramics factory, where he became artistic director the following year. In the same Umbrian town he painted a 60-meter fresco on the theme of the battle for grain, divided into 12 panels covering the four walls of a room.

The new Roman painting

In April 1932 he exhibited with Adriana Pincherle at the Galleria di Roma directed by Pier Maria Bardi. With Giuseppe Capogrossi and Emanuele Cavalli he was among the protagonists of a season of Roman painting of those years, and in December 1933 he exhibited with them in Paris, at the Galerie Jacques Bonjean. In Rome he was tied to the Galleria La Cometa of Countess Anna Laetitia Pecci Blunt, directed by Libero De Libero and Cagli himself, where he held a solo show of 50 drawings.

Exile and war

At the end of 1938, after the racial laws and the antisemitic attacks against him and his work, Cagli was forced into exile. He went first to Paris, then to the United States. During the war he made a famous cycle of drawings, including the images of the Buchenwald concentration camp, in whose liberation he took part with the Allied troops. After the war, in New York, he was among the founders of the Ballet Society with George Balanchine and Lincoln Kirstein, for which he designed sets and costumes. In 1948 he returned to Italy for good.

Why the masks

The paper masks announced as previously unseen fit well with his history as a set and costume designer. For a Roman audience, moreover, Cagli is at home: he trained here, lived his last decades here and died here. Seeing his sculptures under Fuksas's glass case is a way to reread him alongside the art of today.

The fair's institutions and awards

The sixth edition of Roma Arte in Nuvola confirms the participation of the Ministry of Culture, with some of its most representative museums and cultural institutions, the Lazio Region and Roma Capitale.

Market and museums together

It's the feature the fair claims as its own: the dialogue between market, culture and institutions. Alongside the gallery booths, where works are for sale, there are spaces in which public institutions present projects designed for the Nuvola. For visitors it means part of the fair is a real exhibition.

The awards

The 2025 edition marked the return of the awards: the Premio Arte in Nuvola, the Premio CANSON 2025 and the Premio Hilton Rome EUR La Lama. For 2026 the organizers announce further new features, to be presented in the coming weeks.

Talks and performances

Talks, exhibitions, installations and performances are part of every edition's program. The detailed calendar is published close to the fair: check it before choosing your day, because a talk with an artist or curator is often worth the trip.

A curious fact about Roma Arte in Nuvola 2026 at the Nuvola in EUR, November 20 to 22, 2026

The most interesting curious fact concerns the place and its meaning. The Nuvola, which hosts the fair, was for seven months, from February 24 to September 26, 2021, Italy's largest COVID 19 vaccination center: up to 3,000 people a day, 536,000 doses in all. A few months later, on October 30 and 31, 2021, the same building hosted the G20 summit, the first held in Italy. The same year, 2021, the first edition of Roma Arte in Nuvola was born. Within a few months, under the same glass case, vaccine lines, heads of state and art galleries took turns.

The second curious fact concerns the name. «Arte in Nuvola» (Art in the Cloud) sounds like a pun, and it's also an exact description: the works are displayed in the glass case, under the great suspended white volume that gives the building its name and contains the auditorium. If you look up between one booth and the next, you see above you the biggest sculpture at the fair, which nobody can buy.

The third is a coincidence of anniversaries. In 2026 the Nuvola turns 10: it was inaugurated on October 29, 2016. The fair arrives three weeks after the birthday, with the tribute to an artist, Corrado Cagli, who died exactly 50 years earlier.

Fuksas's Nuvola, home of Roma Arte in Nuvola

The Nuvola is the EUR convention center designed by Studio Fuksas, a complex of about 55,000 square meters between Via Cristoforo Colombo, Viale Europa, Viale Shakespeare and Viale Asia. For the full history there's our page on the Nuvola by Fuksas.

The case and the cloud

The building is made of two parts. The case is the polygonal volume of glass, steel and stone, 40 meters high, 70 wide and 175 long, with a double facade that insulates and shields from the sun. Inside, suspended with walkways and a supporting structure called the hull, is the cloud proper, the white, irregular volume that contains the 1,850-seat auditorium and its services.

The spaces for the fair

The complex's numbers explain why an art fair fits in comfortably: the main forum and foyer measure 5,580 square meters, the auditorium foyer 3,500, the conference rooms 1,330 in total. The galleries occupy the large open spaces of the case, with natural light coming through the glass walls: a rare condition for a fair, and a precious one for looking at colors.

An award before opening

In 2012, while still under construction, the building received the Best Building Site award from the Royal Institute of British Architects in London. The owner is EUR SpA, a company 90 percent controlled by the Ministry of Economy and Finance and 10 percent by Roma Capitale.

Other autumn events

In the preceding weeks the Nuvola hosts the Euro-Mediterranean Water Forum, Cybertech Europe and Roma Sposa. In December comes Più libri più liberi 2026, the fair of small and medium-sized publishers. Two cultural fairs two weeks apart, in the same building.

Something nobody tells you about Roma Arte in Nuvola 2026 at the Nuvola in EUR, November 20 to 22, 2026

What nobody tells first-time visitors to an art fair is that you can ask anything. Gallerists are there to talk to the public, not just to collectors. Asking who the artist is, how a work is made, how much it costs isn't rude: it's how a fair works. Many works at a fair are more affordable than you'd imagine, especially in photography, editions and the sections devoted to young artists. If a question about price embarrasses the gallerist, that's their problem.

The second thing concerns the light. The Nuvola's case is glass, and in November the sun sets early. If you want to see the works in natural light, go in the first hours of opening. The late afternoon has a different atmosphere, with the case lit and the outside dark, but colors change. For a collector it's a decisive detail: a painting seen under two different lights often looks like two different paintings.

The third is a matter of fatigue. A hundred and 40 galleries are a lot. Nobody sees them all carefully in one day. Those who try come out with a full head and no precise memory. Better to choose the sections in advance, do a quick first round, and then go back to the five or six things that really struck you.

Getting to the Nuvola for Roma Arte in Nuvola

The easiest way to get to Roma Arte in Nuvola is metro line B toward Laurentina to EUR Fermi, from which the Nuvola is a few minutes' walk. Alternatively, buses 30 and 714.

By metro

From Termini take line B toward Laurentina and get off at EUR Fermi. Out of the station, follow Viale Shakespeare to Viale Europa: the Nuvola is about five minutes on foot. It's the route I recommend to everyone, especially on the weekend.

By bus

The fair lists lines 30 and 714, with the stops Colombo/Europa, Europa/Boston, Europa/Colombo and Boston, all around the building. The 714 leaves from Termini station and is convenient if you're staying near the station or along Via Cristoforo Colombo.

From the airports

From Fiumicino the fair recommends the FL1 train toward Fara Sabina and Orte to Villa Bonelli, then bus 780 toward Nervi Palazzo Sport to the Europa/Tolstoi stop. By car the distance is about 20 kilometers, around 20 minutes without traffic. From Ciampino it's about 16 kilometers. By public transportation, take the bus to Anagnina station and then the metro.

By car

From the Grande Raccordo Anulare take exit 26, Roma EUR, and continue toward the center. From Termini the fair calculates about 9 kilometers, a quarter of an hour's drive, from the center about 8. On Saturday and Sunday parking around the Nuvola takes patience: better to take the metro.

My advice for visiting Roma Arte in Nuvola 2026 at the Nuvola in EUR, November 20 to 22, 2026

My advice is to go on Friday. The first day open to the public is less crowded than Saturday and Sunday, and the gallerists have more time and energy. Arrive at opening time, with daylight coming through the case, and devote the first two hours to the Main Section and the guest country project.

Second piece of advice: do your homework. The fair's website publishes the list of exhibitors in the dedicated section. 10 minutes at home, with a list of galleries and artists to look for, turn a random stroll into a visit. Also mark the tribute to Corrado Cagli and the exhibitions of the Ministry of Culture institutions: they're the museum part of the fair, the part you see as an exhibition.

Third piece of advice: take breaks. Go out for some air at least once, drink, sit down. An art fair is visited on your feet for hours, and fatigue kills your eye more than anything else. Before going out, ask at the entrance how re-entry works.

Last piece of advice: if a work strikes you, photograph the label with the name of the artist and the gallery. At home, calmly, you can look for more by that artist. That's how a passion almost always begins.

The romaarteinnuvola.eu website has a direct link to ticket sales. At the fair you can usually buy them at the desks too, but for the weekend it's wiser to buy in advance.

Another well-known fact, yet one that is rarely mentioned

It's well known that the Nuvola is the work of Massimiliano Fuksas and that its construction was long and expensive. It's less often mentioned how long and how expensive. Fuksas's final design was approved in March 2007. The foundation stone was laid on December 11, 2007, in the presence of the architect and Mayor Walter Veltroni. Work, entrusted to Condotte d'Acqua, began in February 2008. The initially planned cost was 275 million euros, and the final bill reached 467 million. In December 2013 the work risked stopping because of the city's budget difficulties, and a government intervention through the stability law was needed to complete it. The inauguration came only on October 29, 2016, with Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, Mayor Virginia Raggi and Fuksas, live on Rai 1.

Nine years from foundation stone to opening, and a cost almost doubled: numbers that say a lot about big Italian public works. The fact that today the building is full of fairs, conferences and exhibitions, with events like Roma Arte in Nuvola drawing tens of thousands of people, is the most concrete answer to those who thought it was destined to stay empty.

For visitors there's a practical conclusion: look at the building. An art fair inside a debated and award-winning piece of contemporary architecture is also a visit to architecture.

Accessibility, children and practical information

The Nuvola is a modern building on several levels, with large open spaces. For specific accessibility needs, write to the fair's organizers before your visit, at the address given on the contacts page.

People with disabilities

The exhibition spaces of the case are wide. For routes between levels, ask the staff at the entrance. Arrangements for assisted entry and any free admission for people with disabilities and companions will be given with the prices. EUR Fermi station is a few minutes' walk away.

With children

An art fair isn't designed for children, but it can be an excellent opportunity for them, as long as you don't ask too much. An hour, with a few chosen works, a sculpture, a large photograph, a light installation: that's enough. Then a break at the EUR Lake or LunEur Park, both nearby.

What to bring

Comfortable shoes, a light bag, a charged phone, a water bottle. At a fair you walk for hours and look at things up close: a large backpack bumps into works and visitors. If you're thinking of buying, bring the measurements of your walls at home.

The right photo to take at Roma Arte in Nuvola 2026 at the Nuvola in EUR, November 20 to 22, 2026

The right photo at Roma Arte in Nuvola is the one that brings together art and building. From one of the upper levels of the case, looking down on the forum, you see from above the gallery booths and, overhead, the suspended white cloud. A wide shot, with your phone in wide-angle mode, conveys the scale of the event better than any detail. It's the image that tells those who weren't there what a fair under a cloud means.

The second photo is a working one: the label next to the work that struck you, with the artist's name, the title and the gallery. At home it will be more useful than the photo of the work itself, whose colors are almost always distorted by the fair's lighting. Always ask the booth's permission before photographing a work up close: many galleries agree, some don't, and the rule must be respected.

The third is taken on the way out, if you stay until sunset. In late November it's already dark at 17:00, and the case lit from inside, with the white cloud visible through the glass, reads well from the sidewalk of Viale Europa or Viale Asia. It's an image many Romans know only in passing, by car, and it deserves a stop.

EUR around the Nuvola: what to see before or after the fair

The Nuvola is in the EUR district, born as the site of the Esposizione Universale di Roma, and a short distance away are some of its best-known buildings. For an overview there's our guide EUR: what to see in Rome's rationalist district.

The Square Colosseum

The most recognizable is the Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana, the Square Colosseum, with its repeated arches on all four facades. After a day of contemporary art, a building from the 1940s makes an instructive comparison.

The Museo delle Civiltà

The Museum of Civilizations brings together collections ranging from prehistory to folk arts and traditions. If you arrive the day before the fair, it's the natural complement: a museum about humankind and its cultures next to a fair about today's art.

The Palazzo dello Sport and the lake

Pier Luigi Nervi's Palazzo dello Sport and the artificial lake are a few minutes away. In the same weeks the arena hosts concerts: if you're staying in Rome for the weekend, you can combine the fair by day and music by night.

Where to eat around the Nuvola

Around the Nuvola, in the EUR district, there are bars, cafeterias, pizzerias and restaurants, concentrated mainly along Viale Europa and in the streets near EUR Fermi station.

The day at the fair

For a long visit I recommend a solid breakfast before going in and a simple lunch outside the building, to get some air between rounds. Going out to eat has an advantage: you come back to the fair with rested eyes.

On the weekend

On Saturday and Sunday the places near the Nuvola fill up, partly because of residents and people visiting the lake. In a group it's best to book. Viale Europa, between the Nuvola and the church of Santi Pietro e Paolo, is the street with the most choice.

After the fair

If you stay until closing and want dinner, you can stay in EUR or head back toward the center on metro line B, getting off at Piramide for Testaccio or at Cavour for Monti, two neighborhoods with plenty to offer in the evening.

Some important events that happened here in history

The Nuvola is a young building, but in 10 years it has already hosted events of national and international significance. The first is its own inauguration, on October 29, 2016, with Prime Minister Matteo Renzi, Mayor Virginia Raggi and architect Massimiliano Fuksas, at a ceremony broadcast live on Rai 1, after years of tenders, suspensions and restarts.

The second is linked to the pandemic. From February 24 to September 26, 2021 the convention center hosted Italy's largest COVID 19 vaccination center, able to take up to 3,000 people a day, for a total of 536,000 doses. Many Romans know the inside of the Nuvola precisely because of that line.

The third is political: on October 30 and 31, 2021 the Nuvola hosted the 16th G20 summit, the first held in Italy. The heads of state and government of the world's largest economies met under the same glass case that saw the birth of Roma Arte in Nuvola that same year. A year later, from October 23 to 25, 2022, the Community of Sant'Egidio organized there the international meeting for peace «The Cry for Peace. Religions and cultures in dialogue».

Since 2017, finally, the Nuvola has been the home of Più libri più liberi, the fair of small and medium-sized publishers, which here has topped 100,000 visitors. Art and books, two weeks apart, have made this building a fixture of Rome's end-of-year cultural life.

Who has passed through Roma Arte in Nuvola 2026 at the Nuvola in EUR, November 20 to 22, 2026

First of all, Massimiliano Fuksas, who designed it and was present at the 2016 inauguration together with Matteo Renzi and Virginia Raggi, has passed through the Nuvola. Even earlier, on December 11, 2007, at the laying of the foundation stone, there was Mayor Walter Veltroni. In October 2021 the G20 heads of state and government came through, and the following year the religious leaders gathered by the Community of Sant'Egidio for the meeting on peace.

At past editions of Più libri più liberi, writers and scholars such as Alessandro Barbero, Dacia Maraini, Stefano Mancuso, Anna Foa and Luciana Castellina have taken the building's stages, along with foreign guests such as Jón Kalman Stefánsson and Lukas Bärfuss. Jeff Kinney, the author of «Diary of a Wimpy Kid», filled the auditorium with kids.

Every year gallerists, curators, collectors and artists from all over Italy and abroad pass through Roma Arte in Nuvola. In 2026 there are Alessandro Nicosia, creator and director of the fair, artistic director Adriana Polveroni, curator Pier Paolo Pancotto, and the curators of the German project, Gregor Jansen and Julia Apitzsch. And, through his sculptures and his paper masks, Corrado Cagli passes through, the Ancona-born artist who grew up in Rome, went into exile in 1938, witnessed the liberation of Buchenwald, returned to Italy in 1948 and died in Rome 50 years ago.

Finally, among the visitors, last year's 38,000: the figure that more than any other says what this fair has become for the city.

How to plan your visit to Roma Arte in Nuvola

A visit to Roma Arte in Nuvola is planned in three stages: preparation at home on the list of exhibitors, a quick first round to get your bearings, a slow second round on the works that struck you.

From Rome

If you live in the city, metro line B is the simplest option. If you're coming from the southern neighborhoods, you can use buses 30 and 714, which stop around the building.

From outside Rome

If you arrive by train, get off at Termini and take metro line B toward Laurentina to EUR Fermi. If you're staying two days, a hotel in EUR lets you return to the fair the next day without crossing the city, and a hotel near a line B stop is a good compromise.

Private tours and experiences

For corporate groups, traveling collectors or V.I.P. visits with an escort at the fair, a guided tour of rationalist EUR and dinner on the same day, you can contact Tour Leader Pro.
