On Friday, November 13, 2026 Lay Llamas, a Sicilian krautrock and dub project, play at 30 Formiche, at via del Mandrione 3 in Rome. The club admits ARCI members who have their card. The club doesn't list a start time or price.
Lay Llamas is the project founded in 2012 by the Sicilian musician, producer and visual artist Nicola Giunta. Over time it has moved between solo work, collaborations and collective lineups, connecting psychedelic music, krautrock, afrobeat, dub, cosmic sounds and experimental electronics. The declared references are Can, Sun Ra and Italian library music of the 1960s and 1970s. Records have come out on labels such as Rocket Recordings, Black Sweat Records, Miracle Pond, Delete Recordings and Zel Zele, and collaborators include Damo Suzuki of Can, Mark Stewart of The Pop Group, Goat, Clinic, Ariel Kalma and Gioele Valenti/JuJu.
Lay Llamas now performs as a trio: alongside Giunta are the Padua-based bassist and multi-instrumentalist Nicolò Masetto, known for his work with Collettivo Immaginario, Mamuthones, Orange Car Crash and Nic T, and Andrea Davì, of Snuff, Orange Car Crash, Mamuthones and Lorelle Meets The Obsolete, on percussion and drum pad.
The set is built on rhythms largely sampled from old vinyl records, together with Masetto's bass, a surf-toned guitar, percussion, voices and fragments of vintage audio documentaries, and electronics rooted in cosmic music. Repetition is the central element: patterns overlap and accumulate until they reach a hypnotic, almost trance-like dimension. The music is accompanied by a continuous flow of archival footage from the 1970s, with wild nature, technology, imagined futures, animals, jungles and outer space.
Where it takes place: 30 Formiche
The space is split into two areas linked by brick corridors: a social room with bars and sofas, and one devoted to live music. People listening to the concert do not have the bar line behind them. The club is described on the 30 Formiche page.
