Antonello Venditti at Palazzo dello Sport in Rome, March 8, 2027

In short. Antonello Venditti opens his new arena tour in Rome on Monday, March 8, 2027 at 21:00, at Palazzo dello Sport in Piazzale Pier Luigi Nervi 1, 00144 Rome, EUR district.

Antonello Venditti opens his new arena tour in Rome on Monday, March 8, 2027 at 21:00, at Palazzo dello Sport in Piazzale Pier Luigi Nervi 1, 00144 Rome, EUR district. It is the first of the 11 dates of In questo mondo gli esseri più umani sono gli animali, Palasport 2027, and it falls on his 78th birthday. You get there on metro line B, direction Laurentina, EUR Palasport stop, which carries the venue's name. Alternatively you get off at EUR Fermi, one stop earlier, and walk up along the little lake. From Termini line B is direct, with no changes. Prices are published by the authorized reseller indicated by the organizers. Tickets are bought on the presale network authorized by the organizers and at the linked points of sale, starting from the official tour page of Friends & Partners, which is also the promoter that produces and organizes the concerts.

Venditti at Palazzo dello Sport, for a Roman, is not just any concert. It's a ritual that has repeated at regular intervals for more than 10 years, with an almost stubborn fondness for one precise date: March 8. In 2012 Unica Tour started from here, in 2014 La Festa was held here, and in 2027 a run begins here that will take the singer-songwriter to Messina at the end of May. Anyone who already has a ticket in hand knows what awaits: three generations in the stands, choruses that start before the singer, and a finale that, in Rome, is always something more than a simple encore. Anyone who has never seen him live in his own city has the right chance here, and it is a chance not to be passed up.

Who Antonello Venditti is: the singer-songwriter from the Trieste district

Antonello Venditti was born in Rome on March 8, 1949, in the Trieste district, and began his musical path in the 1970s at the Folkstudio. The biographical note distributed by his promoter tells it, summing up a career of over half a century in one blunt number: almost 40 million records sold. The figure is impressive, but by itself explains little. What matters, to understand the March 8 concert, is the relationship between Venditti and Rome, which in his songs is city, team, neighborhood, family memory and, at times, polemical target.

The piano, Sora Rosa and the Folkstudio

The official biography starts from a domestic detail: an early period of piano lessons, then a more personal approach to the instrument and the first songs. The first is titled Sora Rosa, and it is Venditti himself who presents it to his friends at the Folkstudio, the Roman gathering place of the emerging young, politically engaged folk scene. There he meets Giorgio Lo Cascio and Francesco De Gregori, and with them gives his first concerts. The piano has remained his center of gravity ever since: anyone who has seen him live knows the most intense songs are still born sitting at the keyboard.

Theorius Campus, the record in two halves

With De Gregori, Venditti records Theorius Campus, an album built in an unusual way: each of the two has one side of the vinyl. The promoter's biography dates it to 1971, the 2025 press release from the same promoter to 1972. It's best to keep it as the debut record of the early 1970s, released on the IT label. Half a century later, in 2022 and 2023, the two toured Italy together again with the Venditti & De Gregori tour. The pair, that is, never really split: they just took parallel roads.

Roma Capoccia and the move to Milan

The first personal success is Roma Capoccia. Right after, the biography tells, Venditti moves to Milan to record his first real solo album, L'orso bruno, from 1973, again for IT. It's a curious paradox: the most Roman song of those years takes its author to record far from Rome. The bond with the city, however, doesn't crack. If anything, it becomes the trademark.

Venditti's 1970s: from RCA to Sotto il segno dei pesci

Between 1973 and 1976 Venditti recorded four albums for RCA that contain a large part of his best-loved repertoire, from Le cose della vita to Lilli, which reached first place on the charts. The RCA of those years was the landing point of the most innovative singer-songwriters on the Italian scene, and Venditti entered it with a record made in record time.

Le cose della vita, in two days and two nights

Le cose della vita came out in 1973 and, reading the official biography, was recorded in two days and two nights. The title comes from one of the most beautiful songs in his catalog, which many years later would be re-recorded with the Sofia symphony orchestra. The following year came Quando verrà Natale, a harder album and one less rewarded by the public, even though it contains songs like Campo de' Fiori, A Cristo, Marta and the title track. It's a record I recommend catching up on if you only know the hits: it says a lot about the author before mass success.

Roma, the Roma fans' song

In 1974 Venditti also released Roma, which the biography defines as a track more of Roma fans than of the Roman dialect. It can be read as a declaration of love for the city, and indeed the promoter notes that it will be neither the first nor the last. At Palazzo dello Sport, before a largely Roman audience, it is one of those songs you don't listen to: you sing them.

Lilli and Ullallà

Lilli came out in 1975 and reached number one on the chart. In 1976 Ullallà gathered some of the toughest songs of the early Venditti: Canzone per Seveso, written after the dioxin leak at the ICMESA plant in Seveso, which the biography calls a hymn of civic indignation. Strada, about the exploitation of prostitution. Nostra Signora di Lourdes, about the historic compromise. And Una stupida e lurida storia d'amore, more personal. With this album the relationship with RCA ended and a period of silence and rethinking began.

The 1978 comeback

The comeback came with a new contract and a new album, Sotto il segno dei pesci, from 1978, released by Philips, which brought him back to the top of the charts. The following year came Buona domenica, a record marked, the biography says, by a moment of personal turmoil: alongside bitter songs like Donna in bottiglia and Stai con me are the title track and Modena, with Gato Barbieri on saxophone. The sax, from that moment, became a recurring voice in Venditti's records and concerts, and it matters that even today the live band has a regular saxophonist.

Venditti in the 1980s: Heinz Music, Circus Maximus and Cuore

In 1982 Venditti founded his own label, Heinz Music, and began with the producer Alessandro Colombini a partnership that led to a series of hugely successful albums, from Sotto la pioggia to In questo mondo di ladri. It is the decade in which his popularity surpassed every previous level, and the reason, in Rome, has a precise name: the 1983 league title.

The free concert of 1983

When Roma won the 1983 championship, the whole city celebrated at the free concert Venditti gave at the Circus Maximus, the first of its kind. From that evening came his first live album, Circo Massimo, from 1983, which contains a new song destined to become an anthem: Grazie Roma. Anyone entering Palazzo dello Sport on March 8 should know that for many people present that song is not a musical memory but a piece of family biography.

Cuore and Notte prima degli esami

In 1984 came Cuore, the album of Ci vorrebbe un amico, of L'ottimista and above all of Notte prima degli esami, which the promoter calls a generational anthem. Eight tracks, an overview that runs from personal relationships to historical and social events. 40 years later, in 2024, Cuore was reissued in a special edition for the 40th anniversary, released by Heinz Music and Sony Music Italy, with all the songs remastered and one new song, Di' una parola. Two tours grew out of that reissue, which I'll cover further on.

Troppo forte, Venditti e segreti, In questo mondo di ladri

After Cuore came the soundtrack of Troppo forte, Carlo Verdone's film, and Venditti e segreti, from 1986. In 1988 came In questo mondo di ladri, which sold more than 1.3 million copies and contains, besides the title track, another classic: Ricordati di me. The title of that record should be kept in mind, because it returns, transformed, in the name of the 2027 tour.

In questo mondo gli esseri più umani sono gli animali: Venditti's Palasport 2027 tour

In questo mondo gli esseri più umani sono gli animali is the title of the tour with which Antonello Venditti returns to the arenas in the spring of 2027: 11 dates, from March 8 in Rome to May 22 in Messina, all at 21:00, produced and organized by Friends & Partners. Rome is the opening date, and the only one in March: after a break of almost a month the tour resumes on April 3.

The full calendar

The promoter's official page lists these dates: Monday, March 8 in Rome, Palazzo dello Sport. Saturday, April 3 in Mantua, PalaUnical. Friday, April 9 in Turin, Inalpi Arena. Wednesday, April 14 in Bergamo, ChorusLife Arena. Saturday, April 17 in Milan, Unipol Forum. Wednesday, April 21 in Padua, Kioene Arena. Wednesday, April 28 in Ancona, Pala Prometeo. Saturday, May 8 in Florence, Nelson Mandela Forum. Saturday, May 15 in Bari, PalaFlorio. Wednesday, May 19 in Naples, PalaPartenope. Saturday, May 22 in Messina, PalaRescifina. For each date the promoter lists, next to the regular tickets, special packages as well.

A title that rereads In questo mondo di ladri

The tour title takes the formula of In questo mondo di ladri, the 1988 album, and turns it upside down: in place of thieves, animals, and the adjective human moved onto beings that are not human. The promoter has not, so far, released a statement explaining the choice, and I won't venture interpretations that nobody has given. The fact remains that Venditti has always used titles as statements: from Goodbye Novecento to Che fantastica storia è la vita, he has rarely settled for a neutral formula. This has every air of being another example.

Why Rome opens the run

Opening in Rome means playing at home on the most delicate evening of a tour, the one where setlist, lights and band are put to the test for the first time before an audience. It is a choice Venditti has made before: in 2012 Unica Tour started precisely from Palazzo dello Sport, then called PalaLottomatica, and precisely on March 8. Anyone who goes to opening nights knows what they gain and what they risk. They gain the thrill of the debut, the energy of an artist who has just discovered how the new show sounds. They risk a few imperfections that will disappear in later dates. For a Venditti concert in Rome, the best choice is the debut, without hesitation.

A curiosity about Antonello Venditti at Palazzo dello Sport in Rome, March 8, 2027

March 8, the day of the concert, is Antonello Venditti's birthday, and it is not the first time the singer-songwriter celebrates it on the stage of Palazzo dello Sport: in 2027 he turns 78. The coincidence, looking at his official biography, has every air of a deliberate habit.

On March 8, 1999, for his 50th birthday, Venditti had chosen a party different from what you'd expect from a star: a concert meeting with the students of La Sapienza University, organized by Enrico Menduri, full professor of Sociology. On that occasion he finally collected his law degree, earned in 1973 and never picked up. The detail is irresistible: the singer-songwriter of Notte prima degli esami who, a quarter of a century later, shows up at the university to collect the piece of paper he had left there.

On March 8, 2012, the day of his 63rd birthday, Unica Tour started from PalaLottomatica, that is, from Palazzo dello Sport under the commercial name of those years. And on October 23, 2013 the presale opened for La Festa, the big concert Venditti would give at Palalottomatica on March 8 of the following year. Three birthdays, then, tied to Rome and two of them to the same hall in EUR.

Then there is a second coincidence, which nobody needs to have explained: March 8 is International Women's Day. In 2009, for his 60th birthday, Venditti had released Le donne, a double CD that gathered his songs dedicated to the female universe, with original versions of tracks rarely played live like Sora Rosa, Donna in bottiglia and Lilly. I don't know if the 2027 setlist will take the date into account. I do know that the Roman audience, on a night like this, won't need to be asked to sing.

Venditti from the 1990s to the 2000s: Benvenuti in paradiso, the orchestra, Goodbye Novecento

In the 1990s Venditti released Benvenuti in paradiso, which sold almost 1.5 million copies, the live album Da San Siro a Samarcanda, Prendilo tu questo frutto amaro and his first record with a symphony orchestra. It is a decade in which the singer-songwriter widened his perimeter: more audience, more civic engagement, more experimentation with arrangements.

Benvenuti in paradiso and the 1992 live album

The decade opens with a compilation, Gli anni '80, from 1990, and right after with Benvenuti in paradiso, from 1991, which repeats the success of the previous record. In 1992 came Da San Siro a Samarcanda, a live album the biography reads as the portrait of the artist's two souls: San Siro as the symbol of the big concerts, Samarcanda as Michele Santoro's television program that linked up live with the concert. It was a season when in-depth television and popular music talked to each other, and Venditti was in the middle.

Ogni volta and the record with the orchestra

After three years of silence came Prendilo tu questo frutto amaro, from 1995, with the single Ogni volta. Then Venditti fulfilled an old wish: recording his own songs with a symphony orchestra. Antonello nel paese delle meraviglie, from 1997, was born, a rereading of the classics with the Bulgarian Symphony Orchestra of Sofia conducted by Renato Serio. Anyone who has heard Settembre or Le cose della vita in that version knows that Venditti's writing holds up well with a large orchestra, which can't be said of all the singer-songwriters of his generation.

Goodbye Novecento and Se l'amore è amore

On September 24, 1999 came Goodbye Novecento, a record that tackles the themes of the end of the millennium. In November 2000 came Se l'amore è amore, the first collection of love songs, which passed 500,000 copies and is a record in the compilation market.

Antonello Venditti from 2001 to today: the Circus Maximus, Unica, 40 years of Cuore

In June 2001 Venditti sang at the Circus Maximus for Roma's third league title before more than 1.7 million people, according to the figure from the Questura reported by the official biography: it is indicated as the Italian record for attendance at a live event. That day gave rise to the album Circo Massimo 2001, which went straight to the top of the charts.

From 2003 to 2009

In October 2003 came Che fantastica storia è la vita, eight new tracks plus a long version of the title track with a solo by Gato Barbieri, and a duet with De Gregori, Io e mio fratello. On November 24, 2006 came Diamanti, the broadest collection of his career, 46 tracks on 3 CDs. In November 2007 came Dalla pelle al cuore, with Barbieri on sax again and Carlo Verdone on drums as special guest. His son Francesco, an actor, appears in the video for Indimenticabile. Among the record's titles are Piove su Roma, Scatole vuote, Giuda, La mia religione and Comunisti al sole. In 2009 Le donne celebrated 40 years of career and the artist's 60th birthday.

Unica and the long tour of 2012 and 2013

On November 29, 2011 Unica came out, a record of new songs. The tour of the same name started from PalaLottomatica in Rome on March 8, 2012 and lasted 18 months: 50 cities across Italy, Europe and Canada, with a Roman stop at Auditorium Parco della Musica in Sala Santa Cecilia, the concerts at Teatro degli Arcimboldi in Milan and a special evening at the Arena di Verona on July 9, 2013, Io, l'orchestra, le donne e l'amore, with Annalisa and Chiara Civello and the orchestra conducted by Marco Sabiu. The grand finale was on September 21, 2013 at Pala Olimpico in Turin, as part of MITO Settembre Musica. In the meantime, on November 6, 2012, the anthology TuttoVenditti came out, 45 songs on 3 CDs, which won the Wind Music Award on June 3, 2013.

Cuore 40th Anniversary and the 2024 dates

In 2024 Venditti celebrated 40 years of Cuore with a live and recorded project: a preview at the Arena di Verona, three sold-out nights at the Baths of Caracalla on June 18, 19 and 21, then the arenas in the fall. In Rome the demand was such that, on July 29, 2024, the promoter announced a second date at Palazzo dello Sport, on December 22, next to the one already planned for December 20. The tour has the patronage of the Ministry of Culture.

2025, Sanremo and the book Fuori fuoco

On November 19, 2024 came Fuori fuoco, from Rizzoli Illustrati, a book in which Venditti retraces his life starting from photographs. In February 2025 he was a guest at the 75th Sanremo Festival, where he received the Career Award. Summer 2025 brought back the Notte prima degli esami 40th anniversary tour in more than 20 outdoor locations, with three sold-out dates at Caracalla on June 17, 19 and 21 and the Arena di Verona sold out on September 18. In December it was back to the arenas, with Palazzo dello Sport in Rome on December 21, already sold out at the end of October, and on December 23.

The 2026 live album

On June 19, 2026, coinciding with the high school final exams, Venditti's new live album came out, produced by the drummer Alessandro Canini and released by Sony Music, with recordings from the two tours for the 40th anniversary of Cuore. The promoter gives more than 300,000 spectators and more than 60 dates for those two years. In summer 2026 an outdoor tour followed, starting on July 7 from Bard, in Valle d'Aosta, and reaching Matera on September 2. Palasport 2027, then, comes after three years of almost continuous live activity.

Antonello Venditti's repertoire: what to expect at Palazzo dello Sport

The setlist for the March 8, 2027 concert has not been published. The most reliable indication of the repertoire comes from the 2026 live album, which the promoter describes as a selection of the most iconic songs, from Notte prima degli esami to Grazie Roma, from Ricordati di me to Unica. These are the songs Venditti has taken around for two years in front of more than 300,000 people, and there is no reason to think they'll disappear in his own city.

The anthems the audience sings on its own

Notte prima degli esami, Grazie Roma, Roma Capoccia, Ci vorrebbe un amico: at Palazzo dello Sport these are songs the audience starts singing before Venditti gets to the microphone. If you go for the first time you should know it and get ready: at certain moments the singer's voice is heard less than the hall's, and that is exactly the point. A Venditti concert in Rome is also the audience's concert.

The piano ballads

Next to the anthems are the songs that carry the second half of a Venditti concert: Ricordati di me, Unica, Che fantastica storia è la vita, Le cose della vita, Settembre. Here the piano returns to the center and the band steps aside. It's the part of the show I prefer, because it shows the singer-songwriter underneath the pop star. None of these titles is officially announced for 2027, and I'm saying so clearly: only the night itself gives certainty.

The songs that could surprise

Venditti's catalog is long, and the recent tours have brought back songs that hadn't been heard live for years: all of Cuore, including L'ottimista, and the 2024 new song, Di' una parola. A new tour, with a new title, suggests some novelties in the setlist too, but the promoter has not released any previews of new songs or guests. Anyone hoping for a duet with De Gregori, for example, does well not to count on it: no official source announces it.

Venditti's band: the musicians who accompany him

On the 2025 tours Venditti was accompanied by 10 musicians: Alessandro Canini on drums, Amedeo Bianchi on sax, Fabio Pignatelli on bass, Danilo Cherni on keyboards, Angelo Abate on piano, Toti Panzanelli and Maurizio Perfetto on guitars, Roberta Palmigiani on violin, Laura Ugolini and Ilaria Monteleone on backing vocals. The Palasport 2027 lineup has not yet been announced by the promoter.

The stable core

Some names return in all the recent lineups. Alessandro Canini, drummer, is also the producer of the 2026 live album. Amedeo Bianchi on sax, Danilo Cherni on keyboards, Angelo Abate on piano and Hammond organ and Roberta Palmigiani on violin appear both in the 2025 arena band and in the smaller one of summer 2026. It is the core on which, in all likelihood, the 2027 show will be built too, but that is a deduction and should be taken as such.

Why the sax matters

Since 1979, with Modena, the sax has been part of Venditti's sound identity. Gato Barbieri played on several of his records, up to Dalla pelle al cuore in 2007. Today the role belongs to Amedeo Bianchi, and in an arena it is the instrument that more than any other gives breath to the slow songs. If you're in the stands, watch who plays when the sax comes in: it is the moment when Nervi's hall is at its best.

Something nobody tells you about Antonello Venditti at Palazzo dello Sport in Rome, March 8, 2027

March 8, 2027 is a Monday, and a Monday night concert in Rome is organized differently from a Saturday one: the trip home, transport and even dinner have to be planned with the working week already under way. Anyone selling tickets talks little about it, but it makes the difference between an enjoyable evening and a race against time.

Venditti's Rome dates in recent years fell close to the holidays: December 20 and 22, 2024, December 21 and 23, 2025. Evenings when many people had already clocked out of work, the city was lit up for Christmas and the concert became part of a vacation mood. March 8, 2027 is something else: you arrive from the office or school, you leave the arena around midnight and the next day you work. The audience that takes all this on, however, is also the most motivated: on an opening date that coincides with the singer's birthday, the hall fills with people who chose that night and no other.

Three practical consequences. The first: anyone coming from outside Rome should check the return train and metro times beforehand, because at the end of the concert the alternatives will be few. The second: dinner should be moved earlier or to afterward, with a place already picked out. Improvising on a Monday night in EUR is not a good idea. The third, less obvious: anyone with kids or teenagers in tow, and with Venditti it often happens that three generations come together, should factor in that there is school the next day. In these cases it's best to choose the stands closest to the exits, so as not to lose half an hour in the outflow.

Finally there is an aspect that concerns the concert itself. A first date is an evening on which the production watches, corrects, takes notes. Venditti has often chosen Rome to start, and this says something about the trust he places in his audience: he knows that here, even if something goes wrong, the hall will support him. Those who are there become, in a sense, part of a successful dress rehearsal.

Palazzo dello Sport in EUR: the venue of Venditti's concert

Palazzo dello Sport in Rome is at Piazzale Pier Luigi Nervi 1, in the EUR district, and is the arena designed by Pier Luigi Nervi with Marcello Piacentini for the 1960 Rome Olympics. The square carries the designer's name, the metro station carries the building's name: few places in the city declare their identity so clearly.

The architecture of Nervi and Piacentini

Nervi is the engineer who made reinforced concrete an expressive material. Alongside him, for Palazzo dello Sport, worked Marcello Piacentini. The building is the meeting point of two seasons: the district born for the 1942 Universal Exposition, which was never held, and the Italy preparing for the 1960 Games. The great domed roof, which from outside reads as a disc resting on the rise above the little lake, is the element anyone recognizes arriving from Via Cristoforo Colombo. For the detailed history of the building I refer you to the Palazzo dello Sport page.

The names of the hall

Palazzo dello Sport has changed names several times. For years it was the Palaeur, and many Romans still call it that. Then, with a sponsorship, the PalaLottomatica, the name under which it appears in Venditti's biography for Unica Tour in 2012 and for La Festa in 2014. Today the promoter uses the original name again, Palazzo dello Sport. If someone arranges to meet you at the Palaeur, you know where to go.

How the hall is set up for a concert

For concerts the hall is organized with a floor in front of the stage and stands all around. The layout of the sections changes from event to event and is the one indicated at the time of purchase. The upper stands give an overview of the stage and the lights, the low rows and the floor put you close to the artist. The verdict is clear: for a singer-songwriter singing at the piano, a central stand is better than a side floor.

My advice for visiting Antonello Venditti at Palazzo dello Sport in Rome, March 8, 2027

My advice for the March 8 Venditti concert is to get to EUR by metro B by 19:00, take a short walk along the little lake in the last light and go up to the Palasport unhurried, leaving the car at home. In early March in Rome the sun sets around six in the afternoon: the district is seen at dusk, with the white buildings lighting up one after another.

EUR is a district designed to be looked at in perspective: wide avenues, straight axes, buildings that answer each other at a distance. The walk I propose starts from the EUR Fermi stop, goes down toward the EUR lake and follows it until you find yourself below Palazzo dello Sport, which dominates the lake from above. In half an hour at an easy pace you get some air, see the district and reach the gates without the last-minute crush. Anyone who leaves work early can start from the Square Colosseum and cross the whole axis of the district, with the guide to what to see in EUR in your pocket.

On the rest I'm categorical. First: no car. On a Monday night with an event Via Cristoforo Colombo slows down, and leaving the square at the end of the concert is the worst part of the evening for those driving. Metro B is two steps away. Second: check the same day the time of the last metro run on the Roman public transport website, because it decides how you'll get home. Third: bring a real jacket. March evenings in EUR, on the rise and near the water, are cooler than the afternoon suggests, and the line at the entrance is outdoors.

One last thing, which holds for every debut: arrive in time for the start. On the first dates the production keeps to the schedule more scrupulously than at the end of a tour, and the first songs of a new concert are often the ones chosen with the most care.

How to get to Antonello Venditti's concert at Palazzo dello Sport

The most direct way to reach the Venditti concert is metro line B, direction Laurentina, to the EUR Palasport stop. From Termini the connection is direct, with no changes. Anyone traveling on line A changes at Termini.

By metro

There are two useful stops, both on the branch of line B that ends at Laurentina: EUR Palasport, the closest, and EUR Fermi, about half a kilometer away as the crow flies, convenient for those who want to pass by the little lake. After the concert the stations get crowded: waiting 10 minutes before lining up to go down is often the faster choice, not the slower one.

By bus

EUR is served by many urban bus lines that connect the district to the center, to Ostiense and to nearby areas. Lines and stops change with evening schedules and with detours on big event nights: it's best to plan the route with the Roman public transport planner the same day, checking in particular the night runs for the return.

By car and parking

From the city you arrive on Via Cristoforo Colombo, the axis that connects the center to EUR and continues toward the sea. Parking in the district is largely regulated and on concert nights the spaces near the square run out early. If you really must use the car, leave it far from the Palasport and do the last stretch on foot: you'll get out of the final traffic jam sooner.

By taxi

The taxi works well on the way there. On the way back, at the end of the concert, demand far exceeds supply in the area of the square: better to walk a few hundred meters toward a main avenue, or to book in advance.

From outside Rome

Anyone arriving by train at Termini takes line B directly. Anyone arriving by car from outside the city has two sensible options: leave the car near a line B station far from EUR and continue by metro, or accept the traffic and park at a distance from the square. For the train home after midnight on a Monday, the options are limited: better to check them before buying the concert ticket.

Another well-known fact, yet rarely mentioned

It's well known that Antonello Venditti is the singer-songwriter of Roma, the one with the capital letter of the team. It is mentioned much less that his concert at the Circus Maximus in June 2001, for the third league title, is indicated by the official biography as the Italian record for attendance at a live event, with more than 1.7 million people according to the Questura. The number is so large that it tends to be considered fans' hyperbole. It is instead an official figure, and it gives the measure of what Venditti represents for the city.

The bond between Venditti and the team has a precise chronology. In 1974 came Roma, a track the biography calls more of Roma fans than of the Roman dialect. In 1983, for the league title, the free concert at the Circus Maximus was the first of its kind, and from it came Grazie Roma. In 2001, for the third league title, he returned to the Circus Maximus with that record crowd. Three moments, three songs or live albums, and a whole city as audience.

There is, however, a second fact, known and little told, that completes the picture: Venditti never made being a Roma fan a limit. His best-selling songs, from Notte prima degli esami to Ricordati di me, speak to everyone, and his audience at the dates outside Rome is as large as the one at home. The 2027 tour shows it: 11 cities, from Mantua to Messina. At Palazzo dello Sport, though, Grazie Roma has an effect it can't have elsewhere, and anyone there notices from the first chord. It is the reason why, of all the dates, the Roman one remains the best choice.

Which section to choose

The arena generally offers standing places on the floor and numbered seats in the stands. The choice depends on what you're after: the closeness and energy of the floor, or the full view and more orderly listening of the stands. For those going with elderly people, with children or with someone who doesn't like standing for long, the numbered stand is the only sensible choice.

Moving in good time

Venditti's latest Rome dates had very high demand: in 2024 the promoter had to add a second night at Palazzo dello Sport, and in 2025 the first of the two Rome dates sold out almost two months ahead. For March 8, 2027, a single date in Rome and the singer's birthday, anyone who wants a good seat will do well not to wait for the last month.

The right photo to take at Antonello Venditti at Palazzo dello Sport in Rome, March 8, 2027

The right photo of the Venditti concert at Palazzo dello Sport is not taken inside but outside, before going in: Nervi's illuminated dome, shot from below along the rise from the EUR lake, with the crowd converging toward the entrances. On March 8, at seven in the evening, it is already dark, and the lit building against the dark sky has the sharp shape of a technical drawing.

The best spot is on the shore of the little lake, on the side opposite the Palasport: from there the hall appears high up, above the trees and the water, and the reflection of the lights on the lake adds depth. A minimum of patience is needed to wait for the water's surface to be still. With a modern smartphone night mode is enough. Rest the phone on a railing to avoid blur.

The second photo, more intimate, is the one of the audience. A Venditti concert in Rome brings together whole families and kids who know the songs from their parents. The good moment is the wait on the square, when people meet up and swap seats: a wide image, with the lit entrance in the background, tells the evening better than any close-up.

Inside, forget full videos. One photo at the moment the hall lights up the phone lights, if it happens on one of the ballads, and then the phone in your pocket. Anyone who films Notte prima degli esami from beginning to end ends up with terrible audio and the memory of a screen. Anyone who sings it takes it home whole. It is advice that always holds, and holds double for a concert in which the audience is part of the show.

EUR around the Palasport: what to see before Venditti's concert

Palazzo dello Sport is in the EUR district, born for the 1942 Universal Exposition that was never held, a few minutes on foot from the little lake and the district's main buildings. Anyone who arrives a few hours early can turn the wait into a visit.

The lake and the walk

The artificial lake is the green heart of the district and the most pleasant way to approach the Palasport. In early March the trees are still bare or just budding, but the walk by the water remains the most beautiful in the area. From there Palazzo dello Sport is seen from above looking down and from below looking up, which no other position allows.

The Square Colosseum and the axis of the district

The Palazzo della Civiltà Italiana, the Square Colosseum to Romans, is the symbol building of EUR. Seen at sunset, with the raking light on the arcades, it explains by itself the urban planning idea of the district. Not far away, the Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul closes one of the main perspectives with its dome.

Museums and contemporary architecture

Anyone with a free afternoon can devote it to the Museum of Civilizations, which gathers collections of prehistory, ethnography and folk arts and traditions. Monday hours should be checked on the museum's website. For contemporary architecture there is Fuksas Cloud, the convention center that dialogues with the rationalist buildings around it.

Some important events that happened here in history

Palazzo dello Sport was born for the 1960 Rome Olympics, designed by Pier Luigi Nervi with Marcello Piacentini, and since then has hosted sports and big concerts under three different names: Palazzo dello Sport, Palaeur, PalaLottomatica. For a Venditti concert, the events that matter are those tied to music.

The first chapter is Olympic. The hall is one of the buildings with which Rome presented itself to the world in 1960, and the fact that it carries the signature of Nervi, one of the greatest Italian engineers of the 20th century, still makes it today one of the city's most architecturally significant entertainment venues. The square that surrounds it carries his name.

The second chapter concerns international rock. In the official archives of Bob Dylan's concerts the hall appears as Palaeur on June 19, 20 and 21, 1984 and October 3, 1987, and as PalaLottomatica on November 12, 2011. These are dates that tell how, for decades, this was the reference hall for big indoor tours in Rome. On November 5, 2026 Dylan is on the calendar here again, as the page on his concert tells.

The third chapter is Venditti's. On March 8, 2012 Unica Tour started from PalaLottomatica, which would last 18 months and touch 50 cities across Italy, Europe and Canada. On March 8, 2014, again at Palalottomatica, Venditti gave La Festa, the concert for which the presale had begun on October 23, 2013. In December 2024 the hall hosted two nights of the tour for the 40th anniversary of Cuore, on the 20th and 22nd, the second added by popular demand. In December 2025 the dates are the 21st, sold out well in advance, and the 23rd. On March 8, 2027, with the opening of the new tour, another chapter is added to a story with few parallels between an artist and a hall in his own city.

How to organize the evening of Antonello Venditti at Palazzo dello Sport

For the Venditti concert on Monday, March 8, 2027 at 21:00 it's best to arrive in EUR between 19:00 and 19:30, eat dinner early or afterward, and be at the gates at least 45 minutes ahead. The door opening time is communicated by the organizers in the days before.

Before the concert

If you're coming from work, the most sensible sequence is metro B, a short walk at the little lake, a quick dinner on the streets around the main avenues, entry. If you have more time, arrive earlier and take a tour of the district in the late afternoon light. In any case, don't get to the square at 20:50: the line at the entrance checks of a full arena takes time.

What to bring

The ticket, an ID, a heavy jacket for the outdoor wait and the exit, a small backpack or, better, no backpack. The rules on permitted items, bags and bottles depend on the venue and the organizers and can change from one event to another: check the official indications in the days before. A power bank helps, if you plan to use your phone for the trip back.

After the concert

The outflow from a full arena takes time. If you're not in a hurry, let the first wave out and enjoy a few minutes on the square: the view of lit-up EUR repays the wait. Then metro B, with the last run checked beforehand, or a walk toward EUR Fermi, where the crowd is usually thinner.

Who has passed through Antonello Venditti at Palazzo dello Sport in Rome, March 8, 2027

Through Palazzo dello Sport have passed Bob Dylan, who played here in 1984, 1987 and 2011, and Antonello Venditti himself, who opened Unica Tour here on March 8, 2012 and gave La Festa here on March 8, 2014, besides the December nights of 2024 and 2025. The EUR hall is a recurring stop in the history of big Roman concerts.

Bob Dylan is the name that more than any other gives the measure of the hall. The 1984 dates were three in a row, from June 19 to 21. In 1987 he came back on October 3. In 2011 on November 12, when the hall was called PalaLottomatica. On November 5, 2026 he is on the calendar again, and it is rare for an artist of that generation to return so often to the same hall in a foreign city.

Alongside Venditti, in the 2026 and 2027 season Palazzo dello Sport hosts many names in Italian music. Raf played on October 17, 2026, closing his Infinito Palasport tour. Il Volo on December 17, 2026. In the same period Pooh, Irama, Anna, Kid Yugi, Sfera Ebbasta and the musical Notre Dame de Paris are announced. It is a program that goes from singer-songwriters to rap, from pop opera to musical theater, and it says well what this hall is today for Rome: the place where whoever fills arenas comes through.

In Venditti's biography, though, Palazzo dello Sport has a particular role: it is the birthday hall. No other Roman venue, in his official biography, appears tied to that date more than once. When the lights go down on Monday, March 8, 2027, the audience will know it is inside a tradition, and the singer, at 78, that he has come home.

Where to eat before and after Venditti's concert in EUR

Around Palazzo dello Sport, along the main avenues of EUR, there are bars, pizzerias, trattorias and aperitivo places frequented mostly by people who work in the district's offices. On Monday nights some businesses stay closed: better to pick the place in advance and, if possible, book.

Before the concert

The most practical solution is an early dinner, around 19:00, in a pizzeria or a trattoria on the streets between the EUR Fermi stop and the little lake. The hearty aperitivo is the alternative for those arriving in a rush: in Rome you find it almost everywhere, and in EUR it is designed precisely for people coming out of the offices.

After the concert

After 23:00 on a Monday the options shrink a lot in the district. Anyone who wants to eat afterward has to move toward livelier parts of the city, taking transport hours into account. The most convenient solution: dinner before, something hot at a bar after, and home.

Accessibility and kids at Antonello Venditti's concert

Palazzo dello Sport provides places for people with disabilities according to the procedures indicated by the organizers and the ticketing network. For specific requests it's best to contact the promoter's customer service before purchase. The conditions for the companion and the reserved areas are described at the time of purchase.

With kids

A Venditti concert is one of the few big events where three generations sing the same songs, and bringing a child or a teenager makes sense. Keep in mind, though, that it ends late, that the next day is Tuesday and that the volume in an arena is high: earplugs suitable for children are a reasonable precaution. The rules on minimum age and on tickets for the youngest are those indicated by the organizers.

Elderly people and reduced mobility

For those who have trouble walking or standing, a numbered stand near an entrance and arriving well ahead of time are the two golden rules. Metro B is the most convenient solution for the trip there. For the return, a taxi booked in advance avoids the wait on the square.

Rome in early March: the time of Venditti's concert

On March 8, 2027 Rome is at the end of winter: lengthening days, often mild afternoons and still cool evenings, especially in open areas near water like EUR. It is a quiet period for visiting the city, away from the crowds of the peak months.

For those coming from outside who want to turn the concert into a short stay, early March is a good moment: museums are less crowded than in full spring, and the days allow you to see a lot. Between a tour of the center and the evening in EUR, you can stop by the Baths of Caracalla, where Venditti sang three nights in June 2024 and as many in June 2025, and the Circus Maximus, the place of the two league title concerts. It's a way to make a small Venditti itinerary before hearing him live.

March 8 is also International Women's Day: in Rome there are initiatives in many museums and places in the city, with conditions to be checked each year on the official websites. For those arriving in the morning, it can be a chance for a visit before the concert.

Final advice

Venditti in Rome remains a case of its own: he is the only artist for whom the Palazzo dello Sport audience seems to know the singer personally. The advice is firm: buy early, choose a central stand, arrive on foot from the little lake and don't film Grazie Roma. Sing it. It is the best birthday present a hall can give to the man who wrote it.
