The event

For the autumn bloom the Rose Garden of Roma Capitale opens its gates, at the direction of the Environmental Protection Department, to show its botanical collection: antique roses, tea roses, Chinese roses and modern roses in flower, and the thousand colors and shapes of the hips produced at this time of year by wild roses.

The upper part of the garden holds over a thousand varieties of antique and modern roses from all over the world, from the Far East to South Africa, from New Zealand to the Americas; some species date back 40 million years. The lower section holds the roses entered in the international Premio Roma for New Varieties competition and the winners of previous editions.

The Rose Garden lies on the slopes of the Aventine, with views stretching from the Circus Maximus to the Palatine, the bell tower of Santa Maria in Cosmedin and the Vittoriano.
