Rodrigo y Gabriela in Rome: Auditorium Parco della Musica, April 27, 2027
Rodrigo y Gabriela in Rome: the duo plays Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone on Tuesday, April 27, 2027 at 20:00, in Sala Sinopoli, at Viale Pietro de Coubertin 30 (00196 Rome), to present their new album OurHome live. The Grammy-winning Mexican acoustic guitar duo comes to Rome with the record made in Japan and released on September 18, 2026 on ATO Records. From the center take Metro A to Flaminio and then tram 2 to the Flaminia/Reni or Apollodoro stops, and from Termini there's bus 910. According to the Auditorium's official page, tickets start at €34.50. They're sold on the authorized presale network reached from the Auditorium's official website, or at the complex's box office.

Two guitars, no vocals, and a technique that blends flamenco, rock and heavy metal: for more than 20 years Rodrigo Sánchez and Gabriela Quintero have filled theaters and festivals around the world with a formula that on paper shouldn't work. In a hall built for music like the Sinopoli, the sound of the two acoustics comes through with a precision outdoor festivals can't match.
Rodrigo y Gabriela at the Auditorium: date, time and tickets
Rodrigo y Gabriela play Sala Sinopoli on Tuesday, April 27, 2027 at 20:00, their only Rome date, with tickets from €34.50.
A Tuesday evening
With a 20:00 start you get out in time to head home at a reasonable hour even by public transit, no small advantage for a weeknight concert.
Prices
The event's official page lists a starting price of €34.50. Prices for the other categories, from orchestra to gallery, appear when you buy on the authorized network, where the seating chart shows the available seats.
Where to buy
The Auditorium names the authorized presale network as its online box office, reached from the buy button on the event page. Alternatively there's the complex's box office, on Viale Pietro de Coubertin.
The genre
In the Auditorium's program the concert is listed in the pop and rock section, the same one that hosts Italian singer-songwriters and international artists over the season. For a duo that came out of metal and plays Spanish guitars, any label is bound to be tight.
OurHome, the new album
OurHome is the new Rodrigo y Gabriela album, released on September 18, 2026 on ATO Records: recorded in Japan and self-produced at NK Sound studios in Tokyo, it opens, according to the Auditorium's presentation, a new chapter in the duo's career.
Monster and Naoki Urasawa
The album was previewed by the single Monster, with a music video made by the manga artist Naoki Urasawa. Inspired by the manga of the same name, the track explores the contradictions of the human psyche and is, according to the presentation, one of the most intense and cinematic pieces on the record. Urasawa, who has followed the duo for years, called the track a faithful musical translation of his manga's atmosphere.
Japan as home
The record is deeply shaped by the duo's relationship with Japan. After a period of creative struggle, Rodrigo y Gabriela found their inspiration again by reflecting on the meaning of home, understood as an inner state of balance and authenticity.
A sign in Melbourne
The title, the presentation says, was born on a walk in Melbourne, when the two noticed a sign reading OUR HOME and took it as a signal about the path they were setting out on.
Back to acoustic
After In Between Thoughts... A New World in 2023, OurHome marks a return to mostly acoustic sounds. The record was mixed by Dave Sardy and mastered by Stephen Marcussen, and it explores themes such as manga, philosophy, nature and personal transformation.
Guests on the record
The album features guests such as guitarist Marty Friedman, pianist Hiromi, Hiyori Okuda and Yukihiro Atsumi. The presentation doesn't say if any of them will be on stage in Rome: the concert is billed under the duo's name.
What to expect from the concert
A Rodrigo y Gabriela concert is largely instrumental: two acoustic guitars, one melodic and one rhythmic, in a style that mixes nuevo flamenco, rock and heavy metal.
Two guitars, no vocals
The duo's music is made largely of instrumental guitar duets. Gabriela's style is strongly percussive: that way of playing forced the duo off the road in 2010, because of the guitarist's repetitive strain injuries.
The repertoire
The set list isn't published. The concert is tied to the launch of OurHome, and most likely it will feature its tracks, starting with Monster, but the duo's classic repertoire includes fan favorites such as Tamacun, Diablo Rojo, Santo Domingo and Buster Voodoo, and their famous takes on Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven and Metallica's Orion.
Metal, unplugged
If you know Rodrigo y Gabriela only by name, you'll likely be surprised by the energy of a concert for two acoustic guitars. Their stated influences are Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and Overkill, along with other thrash bands of the 1980s: the speed, the rhythmic precision and the crescendos come from there, carried over onto wooden instruments.
Who Rodrigo y Gabriela are: biography
Rodrigo y Gabriela are a Mexican acoustic guitar duo made up of Rodrigo Sánchez, born on January 9, 1974, and Gabriela Quintero, born on June 11, 1973, both raised in Mexico City. They live in Mexico City but started their career in Dublin.
How they met, and metal
The two met at 15 at the Mexico City house of culture where Rodrigo's brother was director. Their parents listened to flamenco, jazz and rock, and they loved heavy metal. In the early 1990s Rodrigo founded the metal band Tierra Ácida with his brother, and Gabriela joined in 1993.
Ixtapa
When a record deal for the band fell through in 1997, the two left Mexico City for Ixtapa, a resort on the Pacific coast. For nine months they played in bars and beach hotels, looking for a different kind of music they could feel was their own.
Dublin and Grafton Street
Disappointed by the limited room in the Mexican rock scene, they moved to Europe and in 1999 settled in Dublin, without speaking English. They played pubs and busked on Grafton Street, first with a lot of covers and then, little by little, with their own pieces. They became friends with Damien Rice, who invited them to open some of his shows and introduced them to Niall Muckian, who became their manager.
Foc and re-Foc
In 2001 they recorded Foc, a nine-track demo. In 2002 they redid it with some friends as re-Foc, released on Muckian's own label because, as the manager explained, with an all-instrumental record it was hard to interest the majors or radio. In 2004 came a live album recorded between Dublin and Manchester, and in 2005 they opened David Gray's European tour and signed with ATO Records.
Number one in Ireland
The album Rodrigo y Gabriela, produced by John Leckie, went to number one on the Irish chart, ahead of Arctic Monkeys and Johnny Cash, and was released internationally on March 13, 2006. It includes their takes on Stairway to Heaven and Orion. On December 18, 2006 the duo made its American TV debut on the Late Show with David Letterman with Diablo Rojo.
11:11 and the White House
In September 2009 came 11:11, with guests the thrash metal guitarist Alex Skolnick and Strunz and Farah. Then came appearances on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno, a headline set on Glastonbury's West Holts stage in 2010 and, the same year, a performance at the White House for President Barack Obama.
Hollywood, Cuba and the Grammy
In 2011 they went into the studio with Hans Zimmer for the soundtrack of Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, and they appeared in the film Puss in Boots. In 2012 came Area 52, recorded in Havana with the Cuban orchestra C.U.B.A. and guests such as Anoushka Shankar, and in 2014 9 Dead Alive. Mettavolution, from 2019, with a take on Pink Floyd's Echoes, won the Grammy for best contemporary instrumental album in January 2020. In 2023 came In Between Thoughts... A New World, and in 2026 OurHome.
The discography at a glance
Between demos, studio albums and live records, Rodrigo y Gabriela have built a discography that runs from Foc in 2001 to OurHome in 2026.
Studio albums
Rodrigo y Gabriela, 2006, 11:11, 2009, Area 52, 2012, credited to Rodrigo y Gabriela and C.U.B.A., 9 Dead Alive, 2014, Mettavolution, 2019, In Between Thoughts... A New World, 2023, and OurHome, 2026.
Live records
Live: Manchester and Dublin, 2004, Live in Japan, 2008, with a DVD of five videos, and Live in France, 2011. So the bond with Japan that shapes OurHome has deep roots in their discography.
Famous covers
Besides Stairway to Heaven, Orion and Echoes, the duo recorded Metallica's The Struggle Within for the 2021 tribute album The Metallica Blacklist, a cover that earned a Grammy nomination for best instrumental arrangement.
How to plan the evening
With a 20:00 start on a Tuesday, the Rodrigo y Gabriela concert lends itself to a compact evening in the north of the city, no car needed.
The afternoon
MAXXI, a few minutes from the Auditorium, is the nearest stop for an afternoon of contemporary art, or there's Piazza del Popolo and Villa Borghese, reached by tram 2.
Arrival
Arriving around 19:00 lets you cross the cavea, see the complex in daylight, grab something at the foyer bar and go into the hall without rushing.
Getting home
The concert ends in time to head back by tram 2 and Metro A or by bus 910 toward Termini, and if you're coming from outside Rome, check train times before leaving home.
Sala Sinopoli
Sala Sinopoli is the mid-sized hall of Auditorium Parco della Musica: 1,133 seats, opened on April 21, 2002 together with Sala Petrassi.
The name
The hall is named after Giuseppe Sinopoli, former principal conductor of the Santa Cecilia Orchestra and one of the supporters of the campaign for Rome to have a hall built for music. Through the season it hosts symphonic, pop, rock and jazz concerts, with a large audience but not an arena crowd.
A hall for acoustic guitars
For an acoustic guitar duo the size of the Sinopoli is a good compromise: big enough for the energy of a Rodrigo y Gabriela concert, intimate enough for the instruments to come through clearly, even in Gabriela's percussive passages.
Orchestra or gallery
For a guitar concert, where the hands are part of the show, the center orchestra lets you see the two musicians' technique up close, while the gallery gives an overall view of the stage. You choose on the seating chart when you buy.
Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone
Auditorium Parco della Musica Ennio Morricone is the complex Renzo Piano designed in Flaminio, opened in 2002: Sala Santa Cecilia, the 1,133-seat Sala Sinopoli, the 673-seat Sala Petrassi, Teatro Studio Borgna and the open-air cavea.
A citadel of music
Around the halls are the cavea, the roof gardens, the Accademia di Santa Cecilia's Museum of Musical Instruments and a small archaeological museum with the finds from a Roman villa uncovered during construction.
Music of every genre
Fondazione Musica per Roma pairs the Accademia di Santa Cecilia's symphonic season with jazz, singer-songwriters, rock and world music. The Rodrigo y Gabriela concert belongs to this part of the program, alongside international artists such as Macy Gray and Patti Smith.
How to get to the Auditorium
The Auditorium is at Viale Pietro de Coubertin 30, in Flaminio: from the center take Metro A to Flaminio and then tram 2 to the Flaminia/Reni or Apollodoro stops.
By bus
From Termini, bus 910 arrives without changes, and the 53, 168 and 982 also pass nearby. For the evening trip back, check times on the ATAC journey planner.
By train
The Roma-Nord railway stops at Piazza Euclide, from where you reach the Auditorium on foot or with a short bus ride.
By car
The complex has paid parking, surface and multistory, with spaces reserved for people with disabilities.
What's around the Auditorium
The Auditorium sits between Villa Glori, the Villaggio Olimpico and the Corso di Francia viaduct, and a few minutes away are MAXXI and Teatro Olimpico.
Toward the river
Heading down toward the Tiber you cross the Ponte della Musica and reach the Foro Italico. Farther north, Milvian Bridge is one of the city's evening hangouts.
Toward the center
Tram 2 takes you in a few minutes to Piazzale Flaminio, where Piazza del Popolo and Villa Borghese begin: an afternoon between the square and the park, and the evening in Sala Sinopoli.
Where to eat before or after the concert
At the Auditorium there's a bar and a café in the foyer and a bar-restaurant with a street entrance too, and between Via Flaminia, the Villaggio Olimpico and Piazza Mancini you'll find trattorias, pizzerias and bars.
Before 20:00
To eat before the concert you need to sit down around 18:30. On a Tuesday it's easier to find a table, but booking is still the safe choice.
After the concert
On the way out the widest choice is at Ponte Milvio, a few minutes away. If you're heading back toward the center, tram 2 and Metro A let you eat closer to home too.
Accessibility and practical information
For accessibility at Sala Sinopoli, write in advance to Fondazione Musica per Roma at info@musicaperroma.it, to find out which entrance to use and which seats to choose.
With teens
A Rodrigo y Gabriela concert is a good opportunity for teens who study guitar: Gabriela's percussive technique and Rodrigo's speed are a live lesson that's hard to forget. The 20:00 start on a Tuesday lets you get home at an hour that works with school.
Arriving on time
Be at the complex at least 20 minutes early: you reach the halls through the shared spaces, and the foyer fills up quickly.
Late April in Rome
On April 27 Rome is in full spring, between the April 25 Liberation Day holiday and May 1: days of a full city and mild evenings.
The weather
In late April the evenings are usually pleasant, but it can still rain: the stretch between the tram and the entrance is outdoors, and a light jacket is enough.
A day in Flaminio
Morning at MAXXI, afternoon between Piazza del Popolo and Villa Borghese, evening in Sala Sinopoli: a whole day north of the center, without taking the car. Information on the Auditorium is on its official website.
A curious fact about Rodrigo y Gabriela in Rome, April 27, 2027
The most surprising curious fact concerns television. Rodrigo y Gabriela's Tamacun appears in the pilot episode of Breaking Bad, aired in January 2008: many viewers heard the duo without knowing it, in the opening scenes of one of the most-watched series of the decade. It's just one of the steps that took the two acoustic guitars beyond the concert circuit, along with the soundtracks of Pirates of the Caribbean and Puss in Boots.
The second curious fact concerns the new album. The Monster video is by Naoki Urasawa, author of the manga of the same name, who according to the official presentation has been a fan of the duo for years. A Japanese comic artist illustrating the music of two Mexican guitarists raised on Metallica: it's hard to imagine a wider crossover.
The third concerns their origins. Before becoming the world's best-known acoustic duo, Rodrigo and Gabriela played in a thrash metal band, Tierra Ácida. Their influences never changed: Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer and the rest of 1980s thrash. As recently as 2021 they recorded The Struggle Within for the Metallica tribute, earning a Grammy nomination.
The fourth is an anecdote about their first success: in 2006 their debut album on ATO Records went to number one on the Irish chart, beating Arctic Monkeys and Johnny Cash. Two Mexicans with no singer at the top of the Irish sales chart.
Something nobody tells you about Rodrigo y Gabriela in Rome, April 27, 2027
What isn't said is that Rodrigo y Gabriela started out as street musicians. Arriving in Dublin in 1999 without speaking English, they played pubs and busked on Grafton Street before making a record. Their stage manner, direct and physical, comes from there: from an audience of passersby to win over in a few seconds, without words, with just two guitars.
The second thing concerns Gabriela's technique. Her playing is strongly percussive, and it builds the rhythm the whole duo moves on. It's a style so intense that in 2010 it forced the duo to stop touring because of strain injuries. Watching her up close is one of the reasons to choose an orchestra seat.
The third concerns Rome. The duo is no stranger to the Auditorium: in 2023 the In Between Thoughts... A New World tour stopped at Auditorium Parco della Musica, alongside venues like Red Rocks Amphitheatre. So April 27, 2027 is a return, with a new record and a sound that's mostly acoustic again.
My tip for Rodrigo y Gabriela in Rome, April 27, 2027
My tip is to choose the orchestra, in the center rows. At a concert for two acoustic guitars the hands are half the show: Rodrigo's lightning-fast scales, Gabriela's percussive hand, the glances between them before a change of rhythm. From the gallery you hear well, but you see less.
Second tip: prepare with two listens. The first is Monster, the single previewing OurHome, with Naoki Urasawa's video. The second is their take on Stairway to Heaven or Orion: in a few minutes it shows how a rock or metal song can become music for two wooden guitars.
Third tip: arrive early and take a walk around the complex. Before the concert you can cross the cavea, look at Renzo Piano's halls from outside and, if it's open, visit the Museum of Musical Instruments. For a guitar concert, seeing the collection's antique instruments is a good prelude.
Finally, in our opinion, buy your ticket early: the Rome date is the only one, and choosing on the seating chart ahead of time makes it easier to find center seats.
Another well-known fact, yet one rarely mentioned
It's well known that Rodrigo y Gabriela won a Grammy in 2020 with Mettavolution, for best contemporary instrumental album. Less often mentioned is that the duo played the White House for President Barack Obama in 2010, the same year as their headline set on Glastonbury's West Holts stage: within a few months, from Dublin pubs to some of the most important stages in the world.
A second rarely mentioned fact concerns Damien Rice. It was the Irish singer-songwriter, whom they met in their early Dublin years, who invited them to open some of his shows and introduced them to Niall Muckian, who became their manager and released re-Foc on his own label. Without that meeting, their story might have gone another way.
The third fact concerns film. In January 2011 Rodrigo y Gabriela went into the studio with Hans Zimmer to write and record parts of the soundtrack for Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, released in May of that year. In the same year their music appeared in the animated film Puss in Boots, scored by Henry Jackman.
The right photo to take at Rodrigo y Gabriela in Rome, April 27, 2027
The right photo at the Auditorium is taken outside, before the concert. Renzo Piano's three great halls arranged around the cavea are the most recognizable image of modern Flaminio. The best spot is the cavea, at the center of the complex: from there you frame the halls' shells and the tiers together, and in late April, before a 20:00 concert, there's still late afternoon light.
In the hall, during the concert, the rules are those the Auditorium sets when you buy: in general no photos and no filming, and a raised phone in front of the stage blocks the view for those behind. Before the start, if allowed, a shot of the stage with the two guitars ready on their stands is the most fitting keepsake.
The third photo, if you arrive by tram 2, is of the nearby Ponte della Musica, lit up over the Tiber after the concert.
Some important events that happened here in history
For more than 60 years Rome had no hall built for symphonic music: the Augusteo was demolished in 1936, and orchestras made do with makeshift spaces. In 1992 the city council chose the area next to the Villaggio Olimpico, and in 1993 Renzo Piano won the invited competition. During the excavations the remains of a Roman villa from the 3rd century BC emerged, built over an archaic farm from the 6th century: the project was changed and the finds are now displayed beneath the cavea.
On April 21, 2002, Rome's birthday, Sala Petrassi and Sala Sinopoli opened, and on December 21 of the same year Sala Santa Cecilia opened. Since 2003 the Auditorium has hosted the Accademia di Santa Cecilia season and since 2006 the Rome Film Fest, and in 2020 it was named after Ennio Morricone.
Sala Sinopoli turns 25 a few days before the concert: April 27, 2027 falls just six days after the anniversary of its opening. So Rodrigo y Gabriela play a hall that, in a quarter of a century, has seen music of every genre, from symphonic to rock.
Who has passed through Rodrigo y Gabriela in Rome, April 27, 2027
Over 25 years the Auditorium's halls have seen the conductors of the Santa Cecilia season, the jazz musicians of the Roma Jazz Festival, and the leading names of Italian and international song. The 2026 and 2027 season includes, among others, Macy Gray and Patti Smith, as well as Hayley Williams in the cavea.
Rodrigo y Gabriela themselves have already played the Auditorium: in 2023 the In Between Thoughts... A New World tour stopped at Renzo Piano's complex, between a date at Red Rocks Amphitheatre and one at the Montreal International Jazz Festival.
Their career includes names that show how wide their world is: Damien Rice and David Gray, whose shows they opened, the thrash guitarist Alex Skolnick and Strunz and Farah on 11:11, Anoushka Shankar and the Cuban orchestra C.U.B.A. on Area 52, Hans Zimmer for Pirates of the Caribbean, John Mayer, whose South American tour they opened in 2017, and, on OurHome, Marty Friedman, Hiromi and Naoki Urasawa. On April 27, 2027 they come through Sala Sinopoli with two guitars, and all of this inside them.
