The event
Quintorigo began with a lineup unusual for Italian rock: the voice of John De Leo, the saxophone of Valentino Bianchi, the cello of Gionata Costa, the violin of Andrea Costa and the double bass of Stefano Ricci. In 1999 they brought «Rospo» to the Sanremo Festival, in the Giovani section, and won the critics' prize.
With De Leo the band released three albums: «Rospo» (1999), «Grigio» and «In cattività». After the third record the singer left the group and the instrumentalists continued as Quintorigo; De Leo then worked as a soloist, with «Vago svanendo» and «Il Grande Abarasse», and in collaboration with pianist Fabrizio Puglisi. The group has appeared on the Sanremo stage twice, the first time in 1999; De Leo calls the project of the remaining instrumentalists «Quattroquinti», and they later had Alessio Velliscig as singer.
The original lineup's reunion began for the twenty-fifth anniversary of «Rospo». The initial plan was three dates, later multiplied by audience demand; in December 2024 one stop was scheduled at Largo itself. The January 31, 2027 concert is titled «Rospo Grigio in Cattività» and revisits the first three albums, on the occasion of the first vinyl edition of «In Cattività».
Largo presents the show as an evening of strings, sax and De Leo's unmistakable voice, between rock, jazz and experimentation.
Where it takes place: Largo Venue
Largo calls itself a «total club» in eastern Rome, where concerts, club nights, performances, markets and meetings live side by side. It stands in a former industrial warehouse reclaimed to be usable again as a cultural space.
