The tour begins with a short historical introduction outside the gate and continues inside, where you can climb up to the panoramic terrace. From the top you get a view over the square below, the Tridente and the long perspective of Via Flaminia. It's described as a special opening, useful for learning the history of the monument and its surroundings, as well as the main features of Rome's UNESCO Site, whose Documentation Center is located right inside the gate.
The activity is led by Vanessa Ascenzi and Elisabetta Maffioli and lasts 120 minutes. The meeting includes LIS translation thanks to the collaboration of Roma Capitale's Department of Social Policy and Health and the social cooperative Segni di Integrazione Lazio. Registered deaf people can also book through the CGS multimedia service, Comunicazione Globale per Sordi, of Roma Capitale.
Passeggiate Romane 2026 are city itineraries organized by the Sovrintendenza Capitolina, scheduled from January to December, and this date includes LIS translation. Participation is limited to 15 people.
Where it takes place: Porta del Popolo
Porta del Popolo, also called Porta Flaminia, is a gate in Rome's Aurelian Walls and marks the boundary between Piazza del Popolo and Piazzale Flaminio. From inside it, according to the Sovrintendenza, the view opens onto the square and the Tridente with the long perspective of Via Flaminia.
The meeting point is near the left-hand arch of the gate, on Piazza del Popolo side. Another stop on the Passeggiate Romane program is described on the page Porta Pia and the Museo Storico dei Bersaglieri. Also by the Sovrintendenza is the tour of the tomb in Largo Talamo.
