The event

Carlo Scarpa died in Sendai, Japan, in November 1978, leaving a legacy that shaped 20th-century architecture. Years later the widow of an entrepreneur returns to the lakeside villa he designed, a place of memory and a symbol of a vanished world. In this suspended space she revisits her life and her bond with the architect, in conversation with a professor of architectural history who is reconstructing Scarpa's last days.

What emerges is the portrait of a brilliant, elusive artist driven by a tireless pursuit of perfection. Vitaliano Trevisan's text, winner of the 2017 Riccione Prize, uses Scarpa's life as a starting point to reflect on memory, artistic creation and the mystery of death.

The performers are Maria Paiato, Carlo Valli and Alessandro Mor; direction is by Giorgio Sangati. Emilia Romagna Teatro ERT, Teatro Nazionale, produces with the Centro Teatrale Bresciano.
