Soror Dolorosa at Traffic: date, time and tickets

The Soror Dolorosa concert at Traffic Club is scheduled for Friday, November 20, 2026, at 21:30. The presentation calls it a night of darkness, romanticism and melancholy, and an exclusive Italian date for the band.

The evening's lineup

The evening has four parts: the opening set by Valentina Tenebris, the Instant Lake concert, the Soror Dolorosa concert and the after party. The times of the individual sets aren't published. The time given by the sales circuit is the start of the evening, at 21:30.

The early bird ticket

The first 50 tickets cost 15 euros, at the special early bird price indicated by the authorized presale circuit. Once those are gone, the prices published on the same page apply. For the only Italian date of a band Rome's dark crowd knows well, don't wait.

The after party

After the concerts the night continues with DJ Zipperface, with a selection devoted to goth, darkwave, post punk, deathrock, industrial, EBM and alternative music. If you want to stay, plan your trip back accordingly.

Who are Soror Dolorosa: the band's story

Soror Dolorosa is a French cold wave and gothic rock band, formed in Toulouse in 2001. The concert presentation describes it as one of the most fascinating and intense acts of the contemporary dark and gothic scene, able to combine decadent atmospheres, deep melodies, enveloping guitars and an unmistakable melancholy streak.

The name, from Bruges-la-Morte

The name is due to the bassist Hervé Carles, who chose it after reading Bruges-la-Morte, the novel by Georges Rodenbach: a Symbolist book immersed in a world of passion, nostalgia and mourning. In Latin, Soror Dolorosa means sorrowful sister, or sister of sorrow.

The beginnings in Toulouse

The first lineup had Andy on drums, Franck on guitar, Hervé on bass and Christophe Guenot on vocals, all from the Toulouse metal and underground scene. Between 2001 and 2005 the band recorded two demos, played live and changed lineup with the arrival of Emey in 2003. In 2005 it split up. It re-formed in August 2007 with Andy on vocals, Franck on drums, Hervé on bass and Emey on guitar, around the songs written by the first lineup.

Severance, the first EP

In August 2009 came Severance, a six-track first EP, on the English label Todestrieb Records. The record knowingly looks back to the era when The Cure and The Sisters of Mercy got crowds dancing, and alternates powerful death rock and ethereal cold wave, mixing the rhythms of the 1980s, the lacerations of the 1970s and the Romantic contemplations of the 19th century.

Blind Scenes and the European tours

In August 2010 the band recorded its first album at Drudenhaus Studio, in France, where Alcest and Les Discrets had also worked. Blind Scenes came out in February 2011 on the German label Beneath Grey Skies, part of the Northern Silence Productions catalog. The album spread quickly among the French and German press and DJs, and took the band to the Felsenkeller in Leipzig, alongside March Violets, for the 20th anniversary of Wave Gotik Treffen, in June 2011, and to the Viper Room in Vienna. In 2012 Nicolas Mons replaced Emey on guitar, and the band set off on a 17-date tour with Alcest and Les Discrets.

No More Heroes, Apollo and Mond

The second album, No More Heroes, came out in 2013, after another 16-date European tour, the Hunter Tour, with the Australians Heirs and the New Zealanders A Dead Forest Index. In 2014 the band headlined the Dark Birthday II festival. In September 2017 Apollo came out, on Prophecy Productions, and the same year the live album Rive Gauche: Live in Paris, recorded on December 6, 2014, at the Auditorium Saint Germain in Paris. The fourth studio album, Mond, came out in 2024, again on Prophecy Productions.

The lineup

Soror Dolorosa's singer is Andy Julia. The members also include Hervé Carles, Franck Ligabue, Nicolas Mons and David Alexandre Parquier, but Mons and Ligabue left the band after Apollo: the lineup that will play Traffic hasn't been published.

What you'll hear at Traffic

At Traffic you'll hear cold wave and gothic rock: the music French critics have compared to The Cure and The Sisters of Mercy, with Hervé Carles' driving bass, which according to the band's history gave the push to the first songs, the enveloping guitars and Andy Julia's melancholy voice. The setlist hasn't been published.

A repertoire of four albums

The band has an EP and four studio albums behind it: Severance from 2009, Blind Scenes from 2011, No More Heroes from 2013, Apollo from 2017 and Mond from 2024. It's reasonable to expect a concert drawing mostly on the last two records, released on Prophecy Productions, but only the evening will tell which songs.

Instant Lake, from Naples

Before Soror Dolorosa, Instant Lake play, a band coming straight from Naples. The presentation describes their sound world as made of darkness, intensity and alternative influences. For the Roman audience it's a chance to hear a band from the dark scene of southern Italy.

Valentina Tenebris opening

Opening the evening is Valentina Tenebris, with the task, according to the presentation, of drawing the audience into the most intimate and darkest atmospheres of the night.

DJ Zipperface at the after party

After the concerts, DJ Zipperface offers a selection spanning goth, darkwave, post punk, deathrock, industrial and EBM: the whole genealogy of dark music, from the 1980s to today, in a single night.

Three records to listen to before the concert

To arrive at Traffic prepared, three Soror Dolorosa records are enough, one for each phase of the band.

Blind Scenes, 2011

The first album, recorded in August 2010 at Drudenhaus Studio and released in February 2011, tells, according to the band, the hidden scenes of the world through cold wave. It's the record that took Soror Dolorosa to the German festivals and that the scene's DJs immediately put into their sets. The video for Low End, directed by Toshadeva Palani, is the band's first official clip.

Apollo, 2017

The third album, released in September 2017 on Prophecy Productions, marked the band's move to Prophecy Productions, and on the eve of its release the French edition of Rolling Stone devoted an article to Soror Dolorosa. It's also the last record with Nicolas Mons and Franck Ligabue.

Mond, 2024

Mond is the fourth studio album, released in 2024, again on Prophecy Productions. It's the band's most recent record and the natural starting point if you don't know them.

A curious fact about Soror Dolorosa and Instant Lake at Traffic Club, November 20, 2026

The best curious fact concerns the covers. The cover of Severance, the first EP, uses a photograph of the French soprano Marguerite Carré, taken by Nadar for a 1911 opera. That of Blind Scenes, designed by the studio Metastazis, bears the symbols of the Vienna Secession and depicts Death blindfolded, reworking a piece by Koloman Moser. Soror Dolorosa, that is, builds its image on a century of European Symbolism: Rodenbach for the name, Nadar and Moser for the covers.

The second curious fact concerns the voice. Andy Julia, today the band's singer, played drums in the first lineup: when the band re-formed, in 2007, he moved to vocals. It's a rare switch, and it gives a different meaning to the voice you'll hear at Traffic.

The third curious fact concerns 2011. A few months after the debut album came out, the band played Wave Gotik Treffen in Leipzig for the festival's 20th anniversary, one of the central events of the European dark scene: an international debut that came almost immediately.

The imagery of Soror Dolorosa: Symbolism and the Secession

Few dark bands have imagery as consistent as Soror Dolorosa's. The name, the covers and the album titles all point to the same world: Symbolist and decadent Europe between the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Rodenbach and Bruges

Bruges-la-Morte, the novel by Georges Rodenbach the band's name comes from, is a Symbolist work that immerses the reader in a world of passion, nostalgia and mourning. It's the book the bassist Hervé Carles was reading when he proposed the name: a poetic statement even before the music.

Nadar and the opera

For Severance the band chose a photograph by Nadar portraying the soprano Marguerite Carré in an opera scene from 1911. It's an image of early 20th-century French musical theater, and it ties the band's cold wave to the tradition of opera.

Moser and the Secession

For Blind Scenes the studio Metastazis designed artwork full of Vienna Secession symbols, with blindfolded Death taken from a piece by Koloman Moser. The hidden scenes of the title are, visually too, those of turn-of-the-century Vienna.

Traffic Club, the concert hall

Traffic Club is at Via Prenestina 738, in the eastern part of Rome, between Quarticciolo and Alessandrino, in Municipio V. It's a live music club with a single spacious hall, a small brightly lit bar area and a large parking lot: one of the city's reference points for metal, doom and the heaviest nights, with frequent forays into the dark scene.

From Via Vacuna to the Prenestina

Traffic's story begins on Via Vacuna, in the Portonaccio area, where the club built a reputation with different music circuits. The move east, to the upper Prenestina, came with its name and audience in tow: a transition many clubs don't survive.

How it's laid out

There's a single hall, with the stage on one side: from every point the relationship with the band is direct. The bar area is small and very bright, in contrast with the dark of the hall. On the restroom doors there are old school drawings, the hand-made graphics typical of heavy music clubs. Next to the club is the bar Giolli, a late-night meeting point for the neighborhood.

A club for the dark scene

In autumn 2026 Traffic has already hosted a historic name in dark wave, Clan of Xymox, on October 2, and Sad Lovers and Giants on October 23. The Traffic page describes the club in more detail.

Something nobody tells you about Soror Dolorosa and Instant Lake at Traffic Club, November 20, 2026

What's rarely said is that Soror Dolorosa belongs to a generation of French bands that renewed European dark music starting from very different backgrounds. Some of its members came from the Toulouse underground metal scene, and the band shared a recording studio and a European tour with Alcest and Les Discrets. Soror Dolorosa chose another path: from metal to cold wave and gothic rock, looking back to the 1980s. If you arrive at Traffic expecting a nostalgic revival, you'll find instead a sound with more tangled roots.

The second rarely mentioned thing concerns the schedule. The start is at 21:30, but with an opening set, a support concert and the headliner, Soror Dolorosa will take the stage later, and the exact time isn't published. If you arrive late to see only the French band, you risk finding the hall full. If you arrive at the start, you also hear Instant Lake, who are worth it.

The third is practical: the upper Prenestina, on a Friday night, doesn't have the transit network of the center. Plan your trip back before going out, especially if you're staying for the after party.

My advice for attending Soror Dolorosa and Instant Lake at Traffic Club, November 20, 2026

My advice is to buy the early bird ticket right away. 50 tickets at 15 euros, for the only Italian date, sell out fast, and the savings compared with later prices are real. The authorized presale circuit clearly shows when the early bird allocation is gone.

Second point: listen to Mond and Apollo in the days before the concert, and maybe Blind Scenes to understand where the band comes from. Live gothic rock lives on atmosphere, and recognizing the songs lets you let go instead of trying to figure them out.

Third point: dress in layers and bring filtered earplugs. Traffic's single hall, with the sound system on and the crowd moving, heats up fast even in November, and an evening with three performances and an after party puts your hearing to the test.

Fourth: getting back. If you come by car you have the advantage of the large parking lot, but you have to reckon with what you drink. If you come by public transportation, check the last runs and night lines beforehand, or book a taxi.

How to get to Traffic Club

Traffic, at Via Prenestina 738, can be reached from the center on tram 14 along the Prenestina to Viale Palmiro Togliatti, and from there by surface transportation continuing east along the consular road. By car, there's plenty of parking around the club.

By tram and bus

Tram 14 leaves from Termini and runs along Via Prenestina to Viale Palmiro Togliatti: it's the most direct connection from the center. From the last stop to number 738 you continue by surface transportation. Check lines, stops and evening times before going out with the ATAC journey planner.

By car

Traffic is one of the few Roman clubs where parking isn't a problem: the lot and the surrounding streets absorb the cars of a full night. From the center, follow the Prenestina from Porta Maggiore east, past Viale Palmiro Togliatti. From the Grande Raccordo Anulare, exit onto the Prenestina and head back toward the city.

Getting back

A Friday concert with an after party ends late. Before going out, check the night lines, arrange a shared car or book a taxi. Roma Capitale's radio taxi answers at 060609.

Another well-known fact, yet rarely mentioned

It's well known that Soror Dolorosa is a French band, and that France has a long tradition of cold wave music. It's less often remembered how much of the band's career has played out beyond French borders: its profile classifies it as cold wave and gothic rock, and its recording history runs through specialized German and English labels, from Todestrieb Records to Northern Silence and Prophecy Productions.

The second rarely mentioned fact concerns Germany. As with many European dark bands, Soror Dolorosa's biggest audience is at German festivals: Wave Gotik Treffen in Leipzig, where the band played as early as 2011 and again in 2015, is one of the scene's centers. The first album had already been reviewed by the German press.

The third concerns Paris. The band's only live album, Rive Gauche: Live in Paris, was recorded on December 6, 2014, at the Auditorium Saint Germain and released in 2017, the same year as Apollo: the title recalls the Left Bank of the Seine, where the hall is.

The right photo to take at Soror Dolorosa and Instant Lake at Traffic Club, November 20, 2026

The right photo at a gothic rock concert isn't taken with flash, which flattens everything and disturbs the musicians: it's taken by waiting for a moment when the stage lights are still, usually in the slow songs, when the stage fills with smoke and colored light. A shot of the band backlit in the smoke is the image that tells the story of the evening.

The second photo is taken outside the hall: Traffic's restroom doors with their old school drawings, a detail nobody photographs that tells the story of club culture better than any caption. The third is the small, bright bar area shot from the dark of the hall, with the contrast between the two lights.

During the concerts, keep your phone low: in a single hall a lit screen can be seen by the whole audience. If the band or the club asks you not to film, respect the request.

The Prenestina and eastern Rome

Via Prenestina is the ancient consular road that left Rome heading east and reached Praeneste, today's Palestrina. It starts at Porta Maggiore, crosses Pigneto and Prenestino, meets Viale Palmiro Togliatti and continues to the Grande Raccordo Anulare.

A road that changes face

In its first stretch the Prenestina is a dense urban street, with apartment buildings, shops and the tram. Beyond Togliatti the city changes pace: more workshops, warehouses, open spaces. It's in this less photographed Rome that many of the city's live music clubs are found, because here there's room for a large hall.

Quarticciolo

Around Traffic is Quarticciolo, an official borgata built in the early 1940s with a rationalist plan, low apartment blocks, courtyards and a square with its tower and market. It has a strong memory of the war and of the Roman Resistance and today an intense community life.

The green spaces of eastern Rome

If you want to spend a whole day in eastern Rome, the Aqueducts Park and the Mausoleum of Helena on the Casilina are among the most interesting destinations in the area. In the same sector there's Castagneto Prenestino.

Some important events that happened here in history

The history of the place begins with the road. Via Prenestina is an ancient consular road that linked Rome to Praeneste, today's Palestrina, home in Republican times to a great sanctuary of Fortuna Primigenia. For centuries this stretch was Roman countryside, crossed by the road and dotted with tombs and farmhouses. The city reached it only in the 20th century.

The first decisive event for the neighborhood around Traffic was the construction of Quarticciolo, between 1940 and 1943: an official borgata designed on rationalist principles to house families moved out of the historic center and newcomers. During the nine months of the German occupation of Rome, between September 1943 and June 1944, Quarticciolo was one of the places of the popular Resistance. In the following decades the Prenestina became a production axis, with workshops, warehouses and sheds, and the city spread beyond Viale Palmiro Togliatti to the Raccordo.

For Traffic, the central event was the move from Via Vacuna to the upper Prenestina. This autumn the hall has hosted some important nights for Rome's dark scene, from Clan of Xymox to Sad Lovers and Giants. On November 20, 2026, it adds the only Italian date of Soror Dolorosa.

Who has passed through Soror Dolorosa and Instant Lake at Traffic Club, November 20, 2026

Musicians and artists from the whole European dark scene have passed through the story of Soror Dolorosa. Christophe Guenot and Emey, voice and guitar of the early lineups. Nicolas Mons and Franck Ligabue, who played until Apollo. Alcest and Les Discrets, companions on the 2012 tour. Heirs and A Dead Forest Index from the Hunter Tour. March Violets, with whom the band shared the stage in Leipzig in 2011. Nadar, Koloman Moser and the studio Metastazis pass through the covers, and through the videos the American director Toshadeva Palani, who made the clip for Low End.

The Traffic stage has seen, this autumn alone, Ronny Moorings' Clan of Xymox, Sad Lovers and Giants and the Norwegians Slomosa, with their desert rock: different names, joined by a program that makes the club one of the city's reference points for darker rock.

On November 20 it's the turn of Soror Dolorosa, with Andy Julia's voice and the bass of Hervé Carles, who came up with the name, Instant Lake from Naples, Valentina Tenebris and DJ Zipperface. And the Roman dark wave crowd comes through too, crossing the Prenestina for a night the presentation promises will be one of darkness, romanticism and melancholy.

How to plan the evening

A night of concerts and an after party on the upper Prenestina is planned thinking above all about getting there and getting back.

Before the concert

If you're coming from the center, you can stop in Pigneto, along the tram route, for a relaxed dinner before continuing east. If you're coming by car, you can eat in the Quarticciolo and Alessandrino area and park near the club.

During the evening

Arriving around the 21:30 start lets you hear the opening set and Instant Lake and find a spot in the hall for Soror Dolorosa. Between sets, stepping out for some air in front of the club helps you get through a long evening.

After the concert

If you're staying for DJ Zipperface, you have a long night ahead. If you'd rather head home right after Soror Dolorosa, have your transportation sorted out already.

Where to eat before the concert

Around Traffic the food scene is that of the residential neighborhoods of eastern Rome: pizza by the slice and round pizzerias, bakeries, rotisseries and neighborhood trattorias along the Prenestina and on the streets of Quarticciolo and Alessandrino, the most practical way to eat without straying from the club. If you want a longer dinner, you can stop in Pigneto, along the tram route, with its concentration of osterias and bistros. Next to Traffic there's the bar Giolli, for a coffee or a beer before going in.

Accessibility and practical information

Traffic is a club with a single hall: for accessibility needs or dedicated spaces, contact the club or the organizers before buying your ticket.

Age and documents

Entry conditions for minors and any rules on membership cards and ID depend on the club and the evening's organizers: check them on the official channels before leaving.

What to bring

Filtered earplugs, some cash for the bands' merch table, layers, no large backpacks, your digital ticket on a charged phone and a clear plan for getting back.

Merchandise

At club concerts touring bands often sell records and T-shirts at a merch table in the hall: if you collect dark scene vinyl, the only Italian date is a chance to buy directly from the band. A merch table at Traffic hasn't been announced.

Late November in Rome

In late November evenings are cold and often damp: a heavy jacket helps for the wait at the entrance and for the trip back, and you'll gladly leave it at the coat check, if available, because it's hot in the hall.
