Five Italian bands, five different takes on extreme music: slam brutal death, deathgrind, hardcore-rooted grindcore, crust punk, old school death metal. In our view it's the right night for anyone who wants to get to know an important part of the Italian extreme scene in a single night, at one of the Rome clubs that hosts it most consistently.

Roma Grindcore vol. 2: the November 7 night

Roma Grindcore vol. 2 is scheduled for Saturday, November 7, 2026 at Traffic Live, with doors at 20:00 and the start at 20:30, according to the presentation published on the sales page.

Who organizes it

The night is presented by Kill The Brain and Traffic. Kill The Brain is the Rome festival devoted to the most extreme and underground music, which held its fourth edition at Traffic in May 2026. Roma Grindcore is its autumn night, now at its second volume.

Five bands

The official poster puts Vulvectomy at the top, labeled slamming brutal death metal, and below them Grumo, death metal and grindcore, Neid, grindcore and hardcore, Disforia, crust punk and grindcore, Necrogore, old school death metal. Next to each name the presentation gives the year the band was formed: from Disforia in 2000 to Necrogore in 2022.

Set times

The running order and the times of the individual sets haven't been published. With five bands and a 20:30 start, it's reasonable to expect short sets, as is the tradition in grindcore, and a night that ends in the small hours.

Grindcore, the music of the night

Grindcore is one of the most extreme forms of rock music: very short songs, very high speeds, guttural or screamed vocals, an attitude that comes from punk and hardcore more than from metal.

A borderline genre

The November 7 lineup shows well how much grindcore is a borderline genre. On one side it pushes toward death metal, with Vulvectomy and Necrogore. On the other toward punk, with Disforia's crust and Neid's hardcore. In the middle, Grumo's deathgrind holds the two souls together.

Brevity

In grindcore a song can last less than a minute. Live, that means tight sets, with a few seconds between one song and the next, and a long set list even in half an hour. For anyone who doesn't know the genre it's the biggest surprise: there's no time to get bored.

A scene of independent labels

The bands of the night release records on specialized labels, Italian and foreign: Comatose Music, Dismal Fate Records, Gurgling Gore, Time To Kill Records, Wrong Disk Records, Awakening Records. It's a network that lives on vinyl, limited-run cassettes and club shows.

Vulvectomy, leaders of Italian slam

Vulvectomy are a slamming brutal death metal band formed in January 2007, which its official channel presents as the leading band of the genre in Italy.

Between Bari and Rome

The reference archive for metal music lists Bari, in Puglia, and Rome, in Lazio, as places of origin. The band has been active without interruption since 2007 and now releases on Comatose Music.

The sound

Slam is a variant of brutal death metal built on extremely heavy slowdowns, the so-called slams, alternating with very fast passages. Vulvectomy's official presentation speaks of ferocious slam elements mixed with old school death metal. The deliberately provocative album and song titles belong to the gore and pathological imagery of the genre.

An international band

The band's social media page has more than 130,000 followers, a rare figure for Italian extreme music, and in March 2026 Vulvectomy played the Bucharest DeathFest in Romania. Their 2025 album was called the best of their career by the American magazine Teeth of the Divine.

Grumo, deathgrind from Modena

Grumo are a deathgrind band formed in Modena in 2004, founded by Nico and Riki. The name means clot, in the sense of coagulation, a nod to the gore imagery of the genre.

Sons Of Disgust

After demos, splits and two albums, Grumo released their third record, Sons Of Disgust, on March 29, 2025 on CD for Dismal Fate Records. In September 2025 the Gurgling Gore label put it out on cassette, in 100 copies, for the first time worldwide.

The sound

The album's presentation promises nonstop blast beats, guttural vocals, brutal riffs, apocalyptic grooves and dirty d-beat, and names Dying Fetus, Fulci, Misery Index and Terrorizer as references. The last track, Everything Is Poison, lasts more than six minutes and features Andrea Piro of Putridity on vocals and TV-Crimes of Fulci on synths.

The movies

On their social media page Grumo recalled that a line by Sam Neill in John Carpenter's In the Mouth of Madness ended up in the intro of one of their songs. The bond between grindcore and horror movies is an old one, and Grumo cultivate it openly.

Neid, grindcore from Viterbo

Neid are a grindcore trio formed in Viterbo in 2007 from the ashes of some bands of the self-produced hardcore circuit of the mid-1990s.

Viterbo's pioneers

According to the presentation by the label Time To Kill Records, Neid were among the first in their city to play a raw, grinding fastcore with influences from old school Italian hardcore, blending hardcore, punk, death metal and grindcore.

400 shows

The band has played more than 400 shows in Europe, Asia, Russia, the United States and Cuba. It's a figure that says a lot about grindcore as street music, which lives on stage more than in the charts.

The discography

From the 2007 demo to the 2020 album Anthems To The Dissonance, by way of Il Cuore Della Bestia in 2011, More Gain More Pain in 2014, Atomoxetine in 2016 and Noise Treatment in 2017. On March 15, 2024 Time To Kill Records released the covers EP Still Offensive, a tribute to the Italian hardcore scene between the 1990s and the early 2000s, with cover art by Zerocalcare.

Disforia, crust grind active since 2000

Disforia are a crust punk, grindcore and d-beat band active since 2000, the oldest of the night. Their official page says the devastation began in the nuclear winter of 2000.

Origins

The band's official page gives Rome as its base, while other presentations online describe it as a band from L'Aquila. The sources don't agree. What's certain is that Disforia have been playing for more than 25 years in the Italian extreme punk circuit.

Il Nulla Che Avanza

Their latest release, Il Nulla Che Avanza, is a 12-inch mini LP that came out in August 2024 on Wrong Disk Records and other independent labels. Earlier releases include Fosforo Bianco and Nuova Realtà.

The sound

A review in DIY Conspiracy describes their style as a meeting between the most scorching crustcore and the devastation of old school grind, with references to classic mincecore bands like Comrades and Dogmatized. In 2025 Disforia played the Extreme Condition Fest in Bologna.

Necrogore, old school death metal

Necrogore are an Italian old school death metal band formed in 2022, the youngest of the night, who made their album debut in March 2026.

Two demos and an album

After the demo Digging From Below in 2023 and Ancestral Abhorrence in 2024, Necrogore released their first album on March 20, 2026 on Awakening Records. The musicians come from bands such as Resuscitated, Bloodraised and Slowly Suffering.

Proud to be there

On their social media profile Necrogore announced their spot at Roma Grindcore saying they were proud to be part of the second edition. In 2026 the band was also announced at DoloMetal.

Three generations on the Roma Grindcore stage

The five bands of Roma Grindcore vol. 2 span more than a quarter of a century of Italian extreme music: from Disforia in 2000 to Necrogore in 2022, by way of Grumo in 2004 and Vulvectomy and Neid in 2007.

The 2000s generation

Disforia and Grumo belong to the generation that built the Italian grind scene at the start of the century, through demos, splits, limited-run records and shows in small clubs. Their sound keeps the mark of punk and d-beat, and they still release on independent labels, on vinyl and cassette.

The 2007 generation

Vulvectomy and Neid were born the same year, but took opposite paths: the first toward slam and brutal death, with an international following, the second toward hardcore and fastcore, with hundreds of shows around the world.

The newcomers

Necrogore, formed in 2022, are proof that old school death metal keeps attracting new musicians. Their first album came out in March 2026: at Traffic they play in front of an audience that knows the veteran bands and is looking for the ones of tomorrow.

Kill The Brain, the extreme music festival in Rome

Kill The Brain is the Rome festival devoted to lovers of the most extreme and underground music, which held its fourth edition at Traffic Live on May 30, 2026, with Gutalax, P.L.F. and Eraser on the bill.

The first edition of Roma Grindcore

The first edition of Roma Grindcore, also presented by Traffic and Kill The Brain, took place on a Saturday in April with Undertakers, Guineapig, Tsubo, Dr. Gore and Bazooka, with the same formula: doors at 20:00 and five bands in one night.

A network

The Rebound Action Records logo also appears on the November 7 poster. Festivals, labels and clubs form the network that lets Italian extreme bands play regularly, even outside the big tours.

Traffic Live Club, the venue on the Prenestina

Traffic is at Via Prenestina 738, in the eastern part of Rome, between Quarticciolo and Alessandrino: a club with a single, spacious room, a small, bright bar area and plenty of parking, one of the city's landmarks for metal and the heaviest nights.

From Via Vacuna to the Prenestina

Traffic's story begins on Via Vacuna, in the Portonaccio area, where the club built a reputation in different music circuits. The move east, to the upper Prenestina, took its name and its audience along.

What it's like

There's a single room, with the stage on one side: from every spot the connection with the band is direct, and in front of the stage there's the space a mosh pit needs. The bar area is small and very bright, in contrast with the dark of the room. On the restroom doors there are old school drawings, the hand-drawn graphics typical of heavy music clubs. Next to the club is the Giolli bar.

The autumn lineup

In autumn 2026 Traffic hosted Clan of Xymox on October 2 and Slomosa on October 7, and on November 20 it welcomes Soror Dolorosa and Instant Lake. The club's general page is the one for Traffic.

The Giolli bar

Next to Traffic, the Giolli bar is the neighborhood meeting point and, on concert nights, where the waiting crowd gathers. Between bands, with short sets and quick changeovers, it's the place for a coffee or a beer before heading back in.

Tickets for Roma Grindcore vol. 2

Tickets for Roma Grindcore vol. 2 cost 17.25 euros, according to the sales page listed by the organizers, which presents the figure as the final price.

Five bands, one ticket

17 euros for five bands, divided by set, comes to just over three euros per band. For an audience used to summer festivals it's a value that's hard to find elsewhere.

All ages

The sales page says the night is open to all ages. For minors the club's rules still apply, and at volumes like these, earplugs are essential at any age.

How to get to Traffic for Roma Grindcore

From the center you reach Traffic, Via Prenestina 738, on tram 14 along the Prenestina to Viale Palmiro Togliatti, and from there by bus heading east. By car, there's plenty of parking around the club.

By tram and bus

Tram 14 leaves from Termini and runs along Via Prenestina to Viale Palmiro Togliatti: it's the most direct connection from the center. Check lines, stops and evening schedules for the last stretch before you go out with the ATAC route planner.

By car

Traffic is one of the few clubs in Rome where parking isn't a problem. From the center follow the Prenestina east from Porta Maggiore, past Viale Palmiro Togliatti. From the Grande Raccordo Anulare, take the Prenestina exit and head back toward the city.

Getting back

A night with five bands ends late. Before going out, check the night bus lines, share a car with someone who isn't drinking or book a taxi. Roma Capitale's radio taxi answers at 060609.

The Prenestina and Quarticciolo

Via Prenestina is the ancient consular road that left Rome heading east and reached Praeneste, today's Palestrina. It starts at Porta Maggiore, crosses Pigneto and Prenestino, meets Viale Palmiro Togliatti and continues to the Raccordo.

A road that changes face

In its first stretch the Prenestina is a dense urban street, with apartment buildings, shops and the tram. Past Togliatti the city changes pace: more workshops, warehouses, open spaces. It's in this less photographed Rome that you find many of the live music clubs, because here there's room for a big hall.

Quarticciolo

Around Traffic is Quarticciolo, a borgata built in the early 1940s with a Rationalist layout, low apartment blocks, courtyards and a square with a tower and a market. It has a strong memory of the war and of the Roman Resistance and today an active community life.

The green spaces of east Rome

If you want to spend a whole day in this part of the city, the Aqueducts Park and the Mausoleum of Saint Helena on the Casilina are among the most interesting destinations. Closer to the center, Porta Maggiore marks the start of the Prenestina.

A curious fact about Roma Grindcore vol. 2 at Traffic Live Club, November 7, 2026

The nicest curious fact of the night concerns Neid and a cartoonist everyone knows. In 2024 the Viterbo trio released Still Offensive, a covers EP devoted to the Italian hardcore scene between the 1990s and the early 2000s, and the cover is by Zerocalcare, whom the EP's presentation calls a famous Italian cartoonist. A grindcore record with art by such a popular author says a lot about the bond between this music and the culture of the city.

The second curious fact concerns Grumo and the movies. On their page the band recalled that a line spoken by Sam Neill in John Carpenter's In the Mouth of Madness ended up in the intro of one of their songs, and thanked the actor and the director. Horror movies have always been a gold mine for grindcore and death metal, and Grumo say so openly in their references too: among the bands named as kindred spirits is Fulci, whose TV-Crimes plays synths on the album's last track. The third is the band's very name, Grumo: in the founders' presentation it means clot, congealed blood.

Something nobody tells you about Roma Grindcore vol. 2 at Traffic Live Club, November 7, 2026

What few people say is that a grindcore night isn't the chaotic free-for-all imagined by those who have never seen one. In front of the stage the crowd moves, pushes, jumps, but does it by unwritten and well-respected rules: anyone who falls gets picked up, anyone who doesn't want to take part stays on the sides and nobody drags them in. If it's your first time you can enjoy the show from the back of the room or near the bar, where the sound still arrives very loud.

The second thing concerns the schedule. With doors at 20:00 and the start at 20:30, the first band plays early by the standards of Rome clubs. And with short sets, as is usual in the genre, if you arrive at 22:00 you risk having missed two bands out of five. If the band you care about most is one of the less known ones, like Necrogore or Disforia, be in the room from the start. The third thing is practical: earplugs aren't optional. The volumes of an extreme night, in a closed room, test even people used to rock concerts.

My tip for Roma Grindcore vol. 2 at Traffic Live Club, November 7, 2026

My tip is to arrive when doors open and stay until the end: the whole point of a night like Roma Grindcore is the sequence of the five bands, from old school death metal to crust, from deathgrind to slam. Hearing them one after another lets you understand in one night how the same extreme language can go in different directions. If you don't know the genre, do some listening beforehand: Grumo's Sons Of Disgust, Disforia's mini LP Il Nulla Che Avanza and Neid's EP Still Offensive, with its Italian hardcore covers, are three different ways in.

The second tip concerns the merch table. Bands in this scene live on vinyl, cassettes and T-shirts sold at shows: a few bills in your pocket let you take home a record directly from the people who played it. The third concerns getting back: the upper Prenestina at night doesn't offer many options, and sharing a car with a friend who isn't drinking is the most convenient solution. If you're coming by public transportation, check the night lines before you leave.

Another well-known fact that rarely gets mentioned

It's well known that grindcore is extreme music, made of speed, noise and screaming. Less often mentioned is how much it's a music of relationships, built on a network of bands, labels and festivals that crosses Europe. Neid have played more than 400 shows, in Europe, Asia, Russia, the United States and even Cuba. Vulvectomy, in March 2026, took their slam to the Bucharest DeathFest. The bands of the night release records on labels from different countries and press cassettes in runs of 100 for collectors around the world.

A second rarely mentioned fact concerns the age of this scene. People think of grindcore as music for kids, but Disforia have been playing since 2000, Grumo since 2004, Vulvectomy and Neid since 2007, and Neid grew out of mid-1990s hardcore bands. The same night features Necrogore, formed in 2022: in a single night musicians from three different generations meet. It's this continuity, more than the noise, that makes a night like Roma Grindcore a small chapter in the history of independent Italian music.

The right photo to take at Roma Grindcore vol. 2 at Traffic Live Club, November 7, 2026

The right photo at a grindcore night is the one that captures the energy of the room: stage lights cutting through the dark, the singer bent over the mic, the crowd moving in front of the stage. The best spot is on the sides, a little raised if possible, away from the center of the pit: your phone is safer and the shot gets band and crowd together.

The second photo is of the merch table: vinyl, cassettes, T-shirts with illegible logos that are one of the visual signatures of the genre. The logos of the five bands, reproduced on the official poster, make up a small catalog of extreme graphic design, with twisted branches and dripping letters.

The third is taken outside, when you arrive: the Traffic sign on the Prenestina, with the warehouses around it and the parking lot full of cars. It's the truest portrait of east Rome's club scene, the one that doesn't appear on postcards.

Some important events that happened here

The history of the place begins with the road. Via Prenestina is an ancient consular road that linked Rome to Praeneste, today's Palestrina, home in the Republican age to a great sanctuary of Fortuna Primigenia. For centuries this stretch was Roman countryside, crossed by the road and dotted with tombs and farmhouses. The city reached it only in the 20th century.

The first decisive event for the neighborhood around Traffic is the building of Quarticciolo, between 1940 and 1943: a borgata designed on Rationalist principles to house families moved out of the historic center and new arrivals. During the nine months of the German occupation of Rome, between September 1943 and June 1944, Quarticciolo is one of the places of the popular Resistance. In the following decades the Prenestina becomes a productive corridor, with workshops, warehouses and industrial buildings, and the city spreads past Viale Palmiro Togliatti up to the Raccordo.

For Traffic, the central event is the move from Via Vacuna to the upper Prenestina. The new venue has hosted the editions of the Kill The Brain festival, up to the fourth, on May 30, 2026, and the first edition of Roma Grindcore. On November 7, 2026 the second is added.

Who has passed through Roma Grindcore vol. 2 at Traffic Live Club, November 7, 2026

In autumn 2026 the Traffic stage saw Clan of Xymox, Sad Lovers and Giants and the Norwegian band Slomosa, and in November Soror Dolorosa and Instant Lake come through. In the spring, with Kill The Brain, came Gutalax, P.L.F. and Eraser, and at the first edition of Roma Grindcore Undertakers, Guineapig, Tsubo, Dr. Gore and Bazooka.

Through the bands of the night have passed musicians and collaborators from across the extreme scene: Nico and Riki, founders of Grumo. Andrea Piro of Putridity and TV-Crimes of Fulci, guests on Everything Is Poison. Alex Paterna, who moved from bass to guitar in Necrogore, and the musicians who came from Resuscitated, Bloodraised and Slowly Suffering. Zerocalcare, who drew the cover of Neid's Still Offensive. And through the films Grumo cite, even Sam Neill and John Carpenter.

On the night of November 7 they're joined by Vulvectomy, Grumo, Neid, Disforia and Necrogore, with Rome's extreme music audience crossing the Prenestina for a night of speed and noise.

How to plan the night

The Roma Grindcore night at Traffic starts early and ends late: doors at 20:00, start at 20:30, five bands in a row.

Eating beforehand

Around Traffic the food is that of east Rome's residential neighborhoods: pizza by the slice and whole pizzas, bakeries, rotisseries and neighborhood trattorias along the Prenestina and in the streets of Quarticciolo and Alessandrino. If you want a longer dinner you can stop in Pigneto, along the tram route.

What to bring

Filtered earplugs, a few bills for the merch table, layers, no big backpacks, the digital ticket on a charged phone and a clear plan for getting back.

November

In early November the evenings are cool and often damp: a jacket helps for the wait at the entrance and for the trip home, but inside, with five bands and a moving crowd, it gets hot.

Accessibility and practical information

Traffic is a club with a single room at street level: for accessibility needs or dedicated spaces, contact the club or the organizers before buying your ticket.

Safety in front of the stage

If you have mobility issues or simply don't want to be caught up in the pit, there's space on the sides and at the back of the room. Keep your phone and wallet in a closed pocket.

Age

The sales page says the night is open to all ages. For teens who love the music it's an opportunity. For children, the volume and the hours make it a poor fit.
