Rosa Brunello is a luminous talent of Italian jazz, a highly regarded bassist and composer whose musical universe perfectly embraces the meaning behind the definition “music without borders.”
The new album "We Are Surging Waters", inspired by contemporary social movements and by a trip to Senegal, is an intense work born from the strong rapport between Brunello and her top-level band, a synergy suggested by the title itself. Recorded in three days and shaped between improvisations and studio sessions, the record evokes a musical Mediterranean in which different cultures intertwine and converse. Alternating energetic, collective moments with more intimate and reflective passages, it explores themes such as peace (We Are Surging Waters), freedom, women's emancipation (Fish Without a Bicycle) and memory (Memory in the Making). A lively, pulsing sound story that celebrates the strength of community and turns music into an act of resistance, solidarity and hope.
