The event
It is a high-energy pop-rock musical, staged for the first time in Italy after its run on Broadway. The cast is made up of young performers aged 13 to 18. Music and lyrics are by Jason Robert Brown, a Tony Award winner; the book is by Dan Elish and Robert Horn.
The story is set in an American middle school and follows Evan Goldman, a 13-year-old who moves from New York to a small Indiana town after his parents' divorce. As his Bar Mitzvah approaches he tries to fit in with his peers. The themes include bullying, empathy, respect and the importance of dialogue.
Direction and choreography are by Marcello Sindici; the Italian text adaptation and musical direction by Ilenia De Cristofaro; the Italian lyrics by Paolo Mannozzi. Evan is played by Andrea Fratoni. The production is by Piccolo Teatro del Musical.
