What you see in Si nasce ancora

Si nasce ancora is a group show that reflects on birth as a foundational experience of the human being, capable of bringing into the world something that wasn't there before.

The starting point is stated in the curatorial text: in a society that talks about birth almost only through demographic data, the falling birth rate and economic and social difficulties, the show proposes to restore centrality to the human and symbolic meaning of being born. To be born means to enter a reality that already exists, in a time we did not choose, inside a story that began before us. It means receiving a heritage of memory, knowledge, achievements and contradictions, with the possibility of going through it and transforming it.

Birth as trust

The theme that comes back most often is trust. A new life arrives in an imperfect world, as all the worlds before this one have been: every generation has known crises, fears, wars and transformations, and yet has kept on building, creating, loving and imagining. To welcome a birth is to welcome someone without knowing who they will become.

Ethical progress

The show widens the discussion to progress. Science, technology and knowledge have multiplied human possibilities, but progress, the text argues, does not coincide with speed, growth or efficiency. A fragile, unfinished life is a reminder of the value of time, care, relationships, listening, peace. It is a clear-cut thesis, and for a private gallery show it is a rare ambition.

Birth and the work of art

The parallel that holds the exhibition together is simple: a work of art, too, is born from the meeting of what already exists and something that is not there yet. The artist starts from matter, memory, experience and their own time to give shape to something new, which can change the way the viewer looks.

No single answer

The show does not offer a single representation of birth and does not claim to answer the questions around the birth rate. The works value it as a possibility and as an act of trust. It's the right choice: a group show of 18 artists that set out to prove a thesis would end up looking like a manifesto.

The gaze of the fanciullino: Pascoli as the key to the show

Si nasce ancora takes as its reference Giovanni Pascoli's fanciullino and his line "Il mondo nasce per ognun che nasce al mondo".

Pascoli's line

The line chosen as a motto reverses the usual perspective: it is not the child who enters the world, it is the world that begins again each time. Hence the title, which sounds almost like a stubborn observation: people are still born, despite everything.

The fanciullino

The curator invites us to recover the pure gaze of Pascoli's fanciullino, a way of seeing that does not let itself be hardened by cynicism and keeps looking for beauty in small things, weaving invisible bonds and believing in tomorrow. It is a school reference for every Italian, and that is exactly why it works: everyone knows what is being talked about.

Wonder

The exhibition text closes on the value of the beginning: to value birth means to welcome what we do not yet know and to consider every new life as a possibility able to renew reality. In the rooms, this translates into works that bet on wonder more than on denunciation.

The artists of Si nasce ancora

Si nasce ancora brings together 18 artists: Anna Cesarini, Antonio La Rosa, Armando Di Nunzio, Cleonice Gioia, Davide Cocozza, Dory Zard, Graziella Buccini, Giovanni Trimani, Luigi Notarnicola, Monica Vanno, Nino De Luca, Pierpaolo Miccolis, Pennyboy, Prisca Tozzi, Stefano Trappolini, Uter, Valeria Magini and Vittorio Pavoncello.

A group tied to the gallery

Many of these names belong to Pavart's stable and have already shown on Via Dezza in solo or two-person exhibitions. The group show is therefore also a portrait of the gallery: visitors discover the artists Pavart works with on an ongoing basis.

The techniques

The works by the artists offered by the gallery range from acrylic on canvas to oil, from mixed technique to collage and mixed media. In the Pavart catalog you find, for example, CMA #12 by Giovanni Trimani (acrylic on canvas, 2018), Quando il sole sorge di notte by Nino De Luca (mixed technique on canvas, 2025), Spring Flowers 1 by Anna Cesarini (mixed media and collage, 2024), Jungle 1 by Davide Cocozza (2025), Crushed Yellow Submarine by Pennyboy (mixed media, 2025), Asino by Luigi Notarnicola (2025) and Lollipop by Cleonice Gioia (oil on canvas in a Plexiglas frame, 2024).

Works for sale

Pavart is a commercial gallery and publishes the prices of the works: in the online catalog they range from about €1,400 to €7,500. For anyone thinking of buying a work of contemporary art for the first time, a group show like this is a good way to get your bearings among different languages and price ranges.

The earlier solo shows

Some of the artists in the show have had solo exhibitions at Pavart: Vittorio Pavoncello with I quadri del silenzio, Graziella Buccini with Apparizioni, Uter with Junk, Giovanni Trimani with Chairman, Davide Cocozza in a two-person show with Igor Grigoletto, Nino De Luca with an open studio on October 25, 2025.

Velia Littera, the curator

Velia Littera curates Si nasce ancora and signs the exhibition project that Pavart presents for Rome Art Week 2026.

The project

The curatorial text is the most solid part of the proposal: it holds together birth rate, ethical progress and artistic creation without giving in to the tone of a social press release. The choice of Pascoli as a reference is personal and recognizable.

The method

The show does not assign the artists an illustrative task. It invites them to engage with the theme through their works, each with their own language. The result is a mixed group show, to be read as a conversation more than as a thesis.

What to expect

A neighborhood gallery, a group of artists known to Pavart's public, a universal theme. It is not a museum show, and doesn't pretend to be: it's a chance to see up close the work of 18 contemporary authors and talk about it with the people who follow them.

Si nasce ancora and Rome Art Week 2026

Si nasce ancora is part of the Rome Art Week 2026 program, the contemporary art week in Rome that involves galleries, artists' studios and exhibition spaces across the city.

A show on the circuit

Being in the Rome Art Week program means having a listing on the event's portal, with dates, hours and the chance to reserve for the opening. For visitors it is a practical advantage: with a single search you also find the other shows of the week in the same area.

The opening, by reservation

The October 22 opening, from 18:00 to 21:30, is listed as a reservation-only event with 75 seats. In a street-level gallery on a residential street, that number is a guarantee: the evening won't be an assault.

After the week

The show stays open well beyond Rome Art Week, until November 27. If you can't go during the event days, you have all of November to see it at your leisure.

Pavart Gallery, the venue of Si nasce ancora

Pavart is a contemporary art gallery at Via Giuseppe Dezza 6b, in Monteverde, that shows works by emerging and established artists with a program of solo, two-person and group exhibitions.

The space

The gallery is at street level and is accessible to people with disabilities. It is an intimate space, suited to painting shows and works on canvas of medium and large format, like those of its artists.

The program

In recent years Pavart has presented shows such as I quadri del silenzio by Vittorio Pavoncello, Apparizioni by Graziella Buccini, Junk by Uter, Sguardi by Roberto Di Costanzo, Subconscious is freedom, Chairman by Giovanni Trimani, Organic Abstract and the two-person show of Davide Cocozza and Igor Grigoletto. It also organized the exhibition Like a Zoo in Monopoli, outside Rome.

A gallery that sells

Pavart does not hide its nature: on the website the works are presented with title, technique, dimensions, year and price. It's a transparency I appreciate, because it spares visitors the embarrassment of asking.

Contacts

Pavart S.r.l., Via Giuseppe Dezza 6b, 00152 Rome. Phone 06 58303356, mobile 328 6189175, info@pavart.it. The gallery is also on Instagram and Facebook.

How to get to Pavart Gallery

You get to Pavart Gallery by bus 75, which stops on Via Giacinto Carini in front of Teatro Vascello, a two-minute walk from Via Giuseppe Dezza.

By bus

The 75 leaves from Termini and goes through the Colosseum and Piramide: if you're coming from the center, it's the most direct option. Lines 44, 710, 870 and 871 are also useful, serving Monteverde and Via Carini.

By train

From Ostiense station, the metropolitan train takes you to Quattro Venti station, on Viale dei Quattro Venti, a short walk from the gallery. It's convenient if you're arriving on Metro B, which connects with Ostiense at Piramide.

By car

In the area you can find parking along Via delle Mura Gianicolensi. There are paid car parks at Via Giacinto Carini 43, Via Maurizio Quadrio 22 and Via Raffaello Giovagnoli 20. At rush hour Monteverde is busy with traffic: public transport is better.

On foot from Trastevere

From Trastevere you climb up toward Monteverde along the streets of the Janiculum: an uphill walk, pleasant on October and November days, to be done in comfortable shoes.

A curiosity about Si nasce ancora at Pavart Gallery, from October 19 to November 27, 2026

The title Si nasce ancora comes from a line by Giovanni Pascoli, "Il mondo nasce per ognun che nasce al mondo", which the show uses as its motto.

It's a curious choice for a contemporary art show, which usually looks for references in recent philosophy or critical theory. Here instead the key is a poet every Italian has met at school, and the idea of the fanciullino, the gaze able to marvel at small things. The result is a curatorial text that reads without effort and speaks to a wide audience, not only to insiders. A second curiosity, the artists. One of the 18 signs with the stage name Pennyboy, another simply Uter, alongside painters who present themselves with first and last name and work with acrylic and oil on canvas. In the Pavart catalog, Pennyboy presents a work titled Crushed Yellow Submarine, a squashed yellow submarine: a Beatles reference that seems made to contradict the lyrical tone of the fanciullino. Luigi Notarnicola, meanwhile, shows in the catalog a large painting titled simply Asino. The coexistence of these registers is the strength of the group show: birth seen through 18 different sensibilities, between lyricism, irony and matter. Third curiosity, the gallery itself. Pavart was born as a Monteverde space but took one of its shows, Like a Zoo, as far as Monopoli, in Puglia.

Something nobody tells you about Si nasce ancora at Pavart Gallery, from October 19 to November 27, 2026

Pavart Gallery is open only Monday to Friday, from 11:00 to 18:00: on Saturday and Sunday, the days when most people visit exhibitions, the gallery does not appear to be open.

It's the practical detail that matters most and that risks slipping by. Many private Roman galleries keep office hours, and anyone who turns up on a Saturday afternoon planning a round of shows finds a lowered shutter. For Si nasce ancora my advice is to plan the visit on a weekday, maybe with a couple of hours of leave or on a day off. The second thing rarely said concerns the date of the opening. The Rome Art Week portal lists the opening on Thursday, October 22 from 18:00 to 21:30, by reservation. The tourism portal of the City of Rome, on the other hand, speaks of an inauguration on Wednesday, October 28 at 18:00. Two different dates for the same event are not rare in gallery communications, but if you want to attend the opening night, you need to ask Pavart for confirmation at 06 58303356. Third thing: the show opens on October 19, before the opening. If you'd rather see the works without the opening crowd, you can go in the first days, when the gallery is quiet and there's time to talk with the people who run it. It's often the best way to understand a group show.

My advice for visiting Si nasce ancora at Pavart Gallery, from October 19 to November 27, 2026

My advice is to visit Si nasce ancora on a weekday afternoon, around 16:00, and to combine the show with a walk on the Janiculum before sunset.

The gallery closes at 18:00, and in October and November the sun sets early: arriving at 16:00 leaves a good hour to see the show calmly and then head up toward the Janiculum, 10 minutes on foot, for the evening light over the city. In a group show with 18 artists it's worth making a quick first pass to get an overall idea, then going back to the two or three works that struck you most. Don't be afraid to ask for information about the artists: in a private gallery it's normal, and it's the way to discover the path of the people exhibiting. If you're interested in buying, ask also about works not on display, because Pavart's catalog is wider than what fits in a show. If you want to feel the atmosphere of Rome Art Week, the opening is the right occasion, but it must be reserved and the date must be confirmed. If you're coming from outside Rome, you can combine the visit with the Museo della Repubblica Romana at Porta San Pancrazio, open Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 to 14:00: the morning at the museum, the afternoon at the gallery.

Another well-known fact, yet rarely mentioned

Monteverde, Pavart's neighborhood, is the place where in 1849 the defense of the Roman Republic led by Giuseppe Garibaldi was fought against the French siege.

Everyone who has studied the Risorgimento knows it, and anyone crossing the neighborhood today, among apartment buildings and villini, forgets it. Porta San Pancrazio, a short distance from the gallery, was destroyed by the French bombardments of 1849 and rebuilt by Virginio Vespignani between 1854 and 1857 for Pius IX. The defense lasted about a month. Among the fallen were Emilio Dandolo, Luciano Manara and Goffredo Mameli, the author of the Canto degli Italiani. Today the gate houses the Museo della Repubblica Romana e della Memoria Garibaldina, and the whole Janiculum area, with the busts of the Garibaldians, the monument to Garibaldi and the one to Anita, is a big open-air memorial. The link with the show is closer than it seems. Si nasce ancora talks about generations that have known wars and crises and have kept building: Monteverde grew up around a battlefield, and today, with its apartment buildings and early 20th-century villini, it is one of the quietest residential areas of Rome. On September 20, 1870, too, Nino Bixio's troops entered at Porta San Pancrazio. Two births, that of the Republic in 1849 and that of Rome as capital, pass through these streets.

The right photo to take at Si nasce ancora at Pavart Gallery, from October 19 to November 27, 2026

The right photo is taken from the Janiculum, after the show, with the city at your feet in the light of an autumn late afternoon.

Inside the gallery the usual rule applies: ask before taking photos, especially of the works, which belong to the artists and are for sale. In a private gallery the answer is almost always yes, but asking is a form of respect. If you're allowed, a photo of the whole room, with the works of the different artists next to each other, says a lot about what a group show is. Then go out and head up to the Janiculum: 10 minutes on foot take you to the lookout from which you see all of Rome, domes, bell towers and hills. In October and November, between 16:30 and 17:30, the low light gives the rooftops a warm color that no filter imitates. A quieter alternative is the Acqua Paola Fountain, the Fontanone, with its monumental facade and the view over the city from the balustrade. For anyone who wants an image tied to the theme of the show, the avenues of Villa Sciarra, with families and children on weekdays, are a coherent subject: birth, care, slow time. A photo like that says more about the show than a postcard.

Some important events that happened here in history

The hill on which Monteverde stands was the stage in 1849 of the defense of the Roman Republic, and Porta San Pancrazio, not far from Pavart, was the most contested point of the French siege.

The gate, built with the Aurelian Walls around 270, was originally called Porta Aurelia because the ancient Via Aurelia left through it. The name San Pancrazio is attested already in the 6th century. In 1642 it was rebuilt within the circuit of Urban VIII's Janiculum walls, to a design by Marcantonio de' Rossi, a pupil of Bernini. In 1849 French cannons destroyed it during the siege that ended the Roman Republic. Vespignani rebuilt it for Pius IX between 1854 and 1857. On September 20, 1870, Bixio's troops entered from here. Closer to the gallery, on Via Giacinto Carini, Teatro Vascello opened on May 4, 1989 with Qui non ci torno più by Tadeusz Kantor and the Cricot Theatre of Warsaw, and since then it has hosted Peter Brook, Bob Wilson and a large part of Italian experimental theater, as well as more than 20 years of shows from the Romaeuropa festival. Pavart fits into this neighborhood cultural geography: a private gallery in an area that history and theater have already made important. With Si nasce ancora and Rome Art Week 2026, contemporary art adds its page too.

Who has passed through Si nasce ancora at Pavart Gallery, from October 19 to November 27, 2026

Vittorio Pavoncello, Graziella Buccini, Uter, Roberto Di Costanzo, Giovanni Trimani, Davide Cocozza, Igor Grigoletto and Nino De Luca have all passed through Pavart Gallery with solo or two-person shows.

The history of a gallery is read in its shows, and Pavart's tells of a group of artists followed with continuity. Vittorio Pavoncello presented I quadri del silenzio, Graziella Buccini the solo show Apparizioni, Uter the show Junk, Roberto Di Costanzo Sguardi, Giovanni Trimani Chairman. Davide Cocozza showed in a two-person exhibition with Igor Grigoletto, and Nino De Luca opened his studio to the public with an open studio on October 25, 2025. Among the group shows are Subconscious is freedom and Organic Abstract. Many of these names return in Si nasce ancora, which for this reason is also a review of the gallery's work. In the neighborhood, a short walk away, Teatro Vascello has seen Tadeusz Kantor, Peter Brook with Beckett's Happy Days performed by Natasha Parry, Bob Wilson, Carlo Cecchi, Moni Ovadia, the Societas Raffaello Sanzio, Pippo Delbono. Higher up, on the Janiculum, Garibaldi led the defense of 1849, and among the fallen of that defense was Goffredo Mameli. Monteverde is a neighborhood of important passages, even if today you cross it without thinking.

The neighborhood around Pavart: Monteverde

Monteverde is the residential neighborhood that climbs from Trastevere toward the Janiculum and the big historic villas, quieter and greener than the center.

The Janiculum

The Janiculum is a few minutes away: a walk on the hill, with the panorama over the whole city, is the natural complement to a visit to the show.

The villas

Villa Sciarra, small and full of fountains, and Villa Doria Pamphilj, the big park west of the neighborhood, are the two green stops in the area. Check the closing time of the gates, which is earlier in autumn.

San Pancrazio

Beyond the gate you reach the Basilica of San Pancrazio, a stop that is easy to fit into the walk.

Trastevere

At the foot of Monteverde opens Trastevere, with the Basilica of Santa Maria in Trastevere and the Museo di Roma in Trastevere. It's the area to head down to after the gallery for an aperitivo or dinner.

Where to eat near Pavart

Monteverde has trattorias, pizzerias and bars frequented mostly by residents, with fairer prices than Trastevere.

For lunch

If you visit the show at 11:00, when it opens, you can then stop for lunch in the neighborhood: on weekdays the places in Monteverde work with office workers and residents, and service is quick.

After the opening

The opening ends at 21:30: you can have dinner in Monteverde or head down to Trastevere, where osterias and trattorias stay open late. On Thursday evenings the district is already crowded, so it's best to reserve.

A coffee at Vascello

A short walk from the gallery, Teatro Vascello has a bistro inside, useful for a coffee before or after the visit.

Accessibility, families and practical information

Pavart Gallery is at street level and is listed as accessible to people with disabilities.

Accessibility

The street-level entrance avoids stairs. For particular needs it's best to call 06 58303356 beforehand, also to find out how crowded the room is on the days of the opening.

With children

A show dedicated to birth is an occasion to bring kids to see contemporary art and talk about it afterward. The gallery is small, the visit is short, and the Janiculum or Villa Sciarra are a few minutes away to finish the afternoon outdoors.

Reservations

The October 22 opening is by reservation, with 75 seats, through the Rome Art Week platform. For weekday visits no reservation is indicated.

Autumn in Rome, the galleries' season

Between October and November, Roman galleries open the shows of the new season, and Rome Art Week concentrates openings and vernissages across the city in a few days.

The weather

The days of late October are still mild, November brings the first rains: an umbrella in your bag doesn't hurt for the walk on the Janiculum.

A gallery tour

Those with time can build a gallery itinerary by choosing nearby shows in the Rome Art Week program: Monteverde and Trastevere lend themselves to an afternoon on foot.

The light

In autumn in Rome the afternoon light is the most beautiful of the year. Visiting the show and then climbing the hill is the best way to use it.

Our opinion on Si nasce ancora

I would go see Si nasce ancora for two reasons. The first is the theme: in a period when the birth rate is talked about only with charts, a show that looks at it as an act of trust is a breath of fresh air. The second is the place: a neighborhood gallery, where you can talk with the people who follow the artists and see the works up close, without the rush of the big museums. Pick a weekday afternoon, call ahead if you're aiming for the opening, and end the day on the Janiculum.
