The exhibition presents nine different interpretations of MACRO as a Museum of the Everyday: a museum open to everyday life.

The projects were developed during the last academic year at IED Roma, in collaboration with MACRO. Each imagines a different way of inhabiting the museum: alongside the exhibition function there are spaces for education, cultural production, work, well-being, collective rituals and shared experiences.

The students started from the existing architecture and its experimental vocation, treating MACRO as a cultural and civic infrastructure, a permeable organism rooted in the city. Paths, lobbies and connecting spaces become the ground on which to test new programs and flexible spatial devices.

Alongside the nine projects, the research that accompanied them is on display: a study of MACRO's history, of the transformations of Rome's cultural system and of the legacy of the season of architectural experimentation that developed in Rome around the turn of the millennium. The exhibition presents the lab as a collective process and offers a reflection on the museum's possible future, understood also as a public space and a cultural platform.

The initiative is part of the Public Program created by IED for its 60th anniversary, a program built around the theme «Plural Intelligences». «Museum of the Everyday» had Matteo Costanzo as thesis supervisor and Alina Aggujaro as co-supervisor. The director of IED Roma is Laura Negrini.

Where it takes place: MACRO

MACRO, the Museo di Arte Contemporanea di Roma, is at Via Nizza 138, near Porta Pia, in the Salario-Nomentano neighborhood. The building was designed by French architect Odile Decq and, since January 2018, it has been run by the Azienda Speciale Palaexpo.
