Kenji Shinohe is a choreographer and performer: trained in Japan and Europe, he specialized at the University of Arts in Wuppertal with Pina Bausch. His earlier work «K(-A-)O» won the Eolo Award in 2025 for its creative use of stage languages.
«Action Briquette Z» is a dance theater solo described as a sonic and bodily journey into the pop heart of Japan. It draws on the sounds, images and bodies of manga: comic-book onomatopoeia, from explosions and impacts to animal cries, serves as the soundtrack and movement arises from sound. On a monitor, cartoon characters interact with the performer. The theme is the confrontation with cultural stereotypes, the relationship between the real and virtual worlds, and the distance between what is told and what is lived.
The sound is performed live with synthesizer, voice and loop station. The running time is 55 minutes. The project is coordinated by Cira Santoro and produced by La Piccionaia, Factory Compagnia Transadriatica and CollettivO CineticO, with support from Fondazione Romaeuropa, in the festival's Kids and Family section.
