The event
The room was conceived as an integral part of the new railway hub designed by the railway architect Roberto Narducci for the 1942 World’s Fair. It is a long rectangular hall that served as a waiting room for distinguished guests.
At the entrance a large bas-relief shows Pegasus and Bellerophon; in the portico the floor mosaics tell the story of Rome, from its legendary origins to the city of the Popes and the celebration of Italian genius. Inside, the walls are clad in Maremma persichino marble and the floors are in Rosso Rubino, Nero Italia and Silvabella marbles, with a Carrara marble statue of the Goddess Roma and a large tapestry.
The room had already been open to the public on Saturday, July 18 and Sunday, July 19, 2026, with visits led by experts in historical heritage, as part of the program of Fondazione FS Italiane to showcase the historic rooms of Italy’s main stations.
