The event

The group alternates original compositions, reworkings of pieces by artists who inspire it, and moments of improvisation, to build what Casa del Jazz describes as a journey toward a collective dreamlike dimension. On stage are Martha Deribe on vocals, Simone Maggio on piano and keyboards, Hermon Mehari on trumpet, Marco Valeri on drums and Lorenzo Scipioni on double bass.

Martha Deribe is an Ethiopian-Italian singer and writer who grew up in Italy, Ethiopia and Zimbabwe. She began studying voice at ten and later worked with Alice Ricciardi. Since 2021 she has worked with pianist Simone Maggio: their duo album, «Sacred Times», came out on AMP Music and Records in November 2024.

In 2025 a collaboration with Ran Blake and Aaron Parks began. In 2026 her track «War Is Over» appears on the compilation «Peace Anthems» from Red Hook Records, alongside Thomas Morgan, Jason Moran, Bill Frisell, Marcus Gilmore and Amina Claudine Myers. She is working on her first solo album and her first poetry book, both for Red Hook Records. The concert belongs to the Young Lions series.

Where it takes place: Casa del Jazz

Casa del Jazz has a park of about two and a half hectares, open daily from dawn to dusk and used in summer as an outdoor stage. The main building houses a 150-seat auditorium, in use from September to May for concerts, screenings and meetings, along with an audiovisual archive, a public library, a bookshop and a café. Two secondary buildings contain rehearsal and recording rooms, a guesthouse for artists and a restaurant.
