On Tuesday, November 17, 2026, the Sovrintendenza Capitolina offers a guided visit to Casina del Cardinal Bessarione (Via di Porta San Sebastiano 8, Rome), in the «Passeggiate romane 2026» series. Booking is mandatory on 060608, every day from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.; there are at most 15 participants and, if places remain, people can join on site. The visit includes Italian Sign Language (LIS) translation.
The visit, led by Stefania Valente, illustrates the building's construction phases, from the late Republican and early Imperial archaeological remains to the Middle Ages. Over the centuries the dwelling has been a tavern, a hospice, a suburban villa of the Cardinal of Tusculum, home to the Collegio Clementino, a Convitto Nazionale, an inn and housing for evicted families. Expropriated in 1926, it was restored by the Governatorato di Roma and now houses offices of the Sovrintendenza Capitolina.
The activity is free, with an entry ticket at the current rate: free for residents of Rome and the metropolitan area (with proof of residence) and for MIC card holders. It is not suitable for people with mobility difficulties and closed, comfortable shoes are recommended. The project is curated by Zetema.
