DROP Monti, cocktail bar and ARCI club in Monti

DROP Monti is a late-night cocktail bar with an underground room at Via Cavour 183, the street connecting Termini to the Imperial Forums, in the Monti rione. It works as an ARCI-affiliated club: the guide to the neighborhood's bars published by Romeing describes it as a bar open only to ARCI members, so you need the card to get in. Inside you drink signature cocktails, play board games and, on special nights, dance to DJ sets.

What DROP Monti is and what you hear

Drop is first of all a late-night bar. Identità Golose, which includes it in its guide to pizzerias and signature cocktail bars, presents it as an address for those who go out late: underground room, low light, appreciated seating and bar, and a line that sums up the character of the place, according to which Drop in the Monti rione is always a sure bet for the deepest part of the night. At the bar the same guide names bar manager Lukasz Kloc and barlady Allegra Casalboni. The BlueBlazeR guide, which lists it among the best cocktail bars in Italy, also names Kloc as bar manager.

The drink list is built like a digital globe: you spin the globe, stop on a continent and choose among cocktails inspired by that area, from Antarctica to Asia. Identità Golose points out the Perfect Bamboo, a highball with an umami note combining vermouth, sherry and pandan, the Tea Blazer, a reworking of a classic cocktail served on fire, and a Margarita as the signature.

On the music front the picture is that of a club: Romeing talks about DJ sets on special nights, and among the activities the association registered with ARCI are the organization of concerts, music groups, DJ sets, dancing, cabaret and traditional music. The contrary position we hold: Drop is often described only as a secret cocktail bar, but it is a club with a library, games and music, and in our judgment it pays off more for those who experience it as such, slowly and at a late hour, than for those looking for a quick drink before dinner.

A curiosity about DROP Monti

The name of the bar and that of the association cross over. The ARCI portal registers at Via Cavour 183 a club called APS ANYTIME, with an email address that joins the two words, anytime and drops. The Facebook page pointed out by BlueBlazeR is instead called associazione culturale Drop. Among the activities declared by the club are also library, photography, reading and poetry, singing and theater courses: a list that goes well beyond the bar counter.

One thing nobody tells you about DROP Monti

The published hours don't match. Identità Golose gives opening at 21:00, Romeing at 21:30, BlueBlazeR at 19:00 and every day, while for Identità Golose the place is closed on Sunday. The practical advice is not to arrive before 21:30 and to avoid Sunday without first checking the official channels. Another useful detail: according to Identità Golose, American Express is not accepted, and animals are allowed.

Upcoming events at DROP Monti

On our site there is the page for the live show by Elena Maiella and Frankie Fioravanti on October 17, 2026. For dates and times of the nights with DJ sets and music, the reference is the Instagram profile drop_monti and the Facebook page of the cultural association Drop, the channels indicated by the guides.

How do you get to DROP Monti?

Via Cavour is served by the Cavour station of metro B, opened in 1955 and called Via Cavour until 1990. The operator does not publish directions for buses or parking. For the route from your starting point, and above all for the trip back late at night, consult the ATAC route calculator. The Monti rione is an area of the historic center, and the car is the least practical choice.

The advice I give you for DROP Monti

My advice is to sort out the ARCI card before going out: ARCI lets you request it through its app too, and this avoids wasting time at the door. Then it's worth letting the drink list's globe guide you by choosing a continent you don't know, instead of ordering the usual classic. The Perfect Bamboo, indicated by Identità Golose as the editorial pick, is a good starting point for those who like dry drinks that are not very sweet.

The neighborhood around: Monti

Monti is the first rione of Rome: the name comes from the medieval "li monti," which indicated the sparsely inhabited area between the Esquiline, the Viminal and part of the Quirinal. Via Cavour was opened between 1880 and the 1910s to connect Termini station to the Forums, cutting through the valley of the Suburra with embankments that left ancient streets such as Via Urbana and Via in Selci lower down. A short distance from Drop are the basilica of San Pietro in Vincoli and the church of Santa Maria dei Monti. For the rest of the rione there is our page on what to see in Monti. The street ends at Largo Corrado Ricci, on the Imperial Forums, from where you reach the Colosseum.
