Come descritto nelle antiche tavole, tutto inizierà con un brindisi come antico rito propiziatorio istituito da Marcus Iunius Brutus, primo console di Roma, in onore della Dea Carna.
Ovidio specifica che questo rito tra amici, "per mezzo della sua presenza divina, apre le cose che sono state chiuse e chiude le cose che sono state aperte "
In tutti i giardini della Capitale e delle residenze estive, esattamente 24 ore prima del plenilunio di Giugno iniziava quella che probabilmente era la festa meno conosciuta al di fuori delle mura della città, ma di certo la più pazza e piena dei riti più dissacranti e liberatori per patrizi e plebei, tanto che neanche nei libri dell’epoca era permesso narrarne gli avvenimenti.

As described in the ancient tables, everything will begin with a toast as an ancient propitiatory rite instituted by Marcus Iunius Brutus, first consul of Rome, in honor of the goddess Carna.
Ovid specifies that this rite between friends, "through his divine presence, opens things that have been closed and closes things that have been opened"
In all the gardens of the Capital and of the summer residences, exactly 24 hours before the full moon of June began what was probably the least known party outside the city walls, but certainly the craziest and full of the most irreverent and liberating rites for patricians and plebeians, so much so that even in the books of that time it was not allowed to narrate those events.

Questa grande festa nasce al tempo di Giulio Cesare, tra il 59 a.C. e il 44 a.C., per dare onore al mese a lui dedicato, Julius, che fino ad allora per i Romani non era un periodo particolarmente ricco di feste, se si escludono i ludi Apollinares e le feriae Ancillarum, probabilmente a causa del gran caldo che impediva un grande afflusso di gente in città dalla campagna e dai paesi vicini, così come avveniva in altri mesi dell’anno.
Ma forse non sai che in tutti i giardini della Capitale e delle residenze estive, esattamente 48 ore prima del plenilunio, iniziava quella che probabilmente era la festa meno conosciuta al di fuori delle mura della città, ma di certo la più pazza e piena dei riti più dissacranti e liberatori per patrizi e plebei, tanto che neanche nei libri dell’epoca era permesso narrarne gli avvenimenti.

Come descritto nelle antiche tavole, tutto inizierà con un brindisi come antico rito propiziatorio in onore di Spes, l'ultima Dea romana, personificazione della Speranza.
Spes Ultima Dea, perchè la Speranza è l’ultima divinità a cui ci si possa rivolgere, dal mito greco del vaso di Pandora, e va celebrata la notte per ricordare sempre che “non esiste notte tanto lunga da non permettere al sole di sorgere ancora il giorno dopo.”
Quando poi cadevano due lune piene nel mese di Agosto, come accadrà quest'anno, mentre i nobili erano in vacanza al mare il popolo organizzava una festa memorabile, piena dei riti più dissacranti e liberatori, in attesa di una svolta donata della Dea.

As described in the ancient tables, everything will begin with a toast as an ancient propitiatory rite in honor of Spes, the last Roman goddess, personification of Hope.
Spes Ultima Dea (Last Goddes), because Hope is the last divinity to whom anyone can turn, from the Greek myth of Pandora's box, and the night must be celebrated to always remember that "there is no night so long as not to allow the Sun to rise again the next day."
Then, when two full moons fell in the month of August, as will happen this year, while the nobles were on holiday by the sea, the people organized a memorable party, full of the most irreverent and liberating rites, waiting for a change given by the Goddess.
