Zoomarine Torvaianica occupies a plateau of about 40 hectares between the Pontina and the sea, at via Casablanca 61, in Torvaianica, a coastal hamlet of the municipality of Pomezia, about 40 kilometers south of Rome. By car, take the Grande Raccordo Anulare, exit 26, then the SS 148 Pontina toward Latina, and leave it at the Torvaianica / Pratica di Mare exit: from there the park signage is continuous. By public transport, take the Cotral bus, stop Piazza Italia in Torvaianica. The switchboard is 06 91534, and the customer service email is customercare@zoomarine.it, open every day between 9:00 and 17:30. The price list the park publishes for the current season is €26.00 for a one-day ticket bought at the box office, while advance online purchase starts at €16.00 for the two-day formula. The surcharge for pools and water park is €3, the evening entrance starts at €9, and the season pass costs €29.90. Children up to 99 centimeters tall don't pay. For visitors with disabilities, the park lists €10 for the zoological park only and €13 with pools and water park, with free entry for the companion. The typical hours for a full day are 10:00-19:00, the evening entrance begins at 17:00 on scheduled calendar dates, and the pools close the season before the rest of the park. Tickets are sold on the park's official website, where you'll also find the updated calendar of opening days. It's the only place where prices and dates are really valid, because the calendar changes from month to month and the management reserves the right to change the hours.

If you're planning a family day trip, the page dedicated to Family and Kids collects the other destinations in the province that hold up well in comparison with this one.

What Zoomarine Torvaianica Really Is: Four Parks Inside a Single Enclosure

The formula the park has used to describe itself for 20 years is still the most honest: Zoomarine Torvaianica is not one park, it's four parks layered on the same grounds, and the ticket covers all of them. Those who come expecting only dolphins discover a water park. Those who come for the rides end up in front of a flamingo aviary. This overlap is what explains why a complete visit doesn't fit into three hours.

The Show Park

This is the historic heart of the facility: educational shows with dolphins, seals and sea lions, tropical birds and birds of prey, spread through the day in different arenas. They are not circus acts with the music turned up, at least in their current form: the park presents them as demonstrations of the species' natural behavior, narrated by a presenter and led by trainers. The weak point is always the same: the central time slot packs in too many shows and forces you to choose. The slot after 16:00 is more manageable.

The Interaction Park

This is where the investment of recent years has gone. These are programs led by biologists and keepers that let you get close to the animals in small groups and for limited times: 20 or 30 minutes per person, separate booking, limited numbers. The current catalog includes encounters with dolphins, with seals and sea lions, with penguins in their habitat, with Madagascar lemurs, with alpacas, with parrots and the flamingos of the tropical aviary, and even with sugar gliders, small Australian gliding marsupials. These are paid experiences, in addition to the ticket, and they must be booked in advance.

The Water Park

Pools, slides, white sand and umbrellas: the water park is the reason the parking lot fills up by 10 in the morning in July and August. It opens later in spring and closes earlier in autumn than the rest of the complex, so check the calendar: late in the season the pool supplement makes no sense if the pools are already closed.

The Amusement Park

Rides, themed mechanical attractions, a 4D cinema, a dinosaur dark ride, a zip line over the greenery. None of these attractions would make news at a big theme park in northern Europe, and that is not the right yardstick here. They work as a break between one demonstration and the next, and as an alternative for 12 or 13 year olds who get bored after 10 minutes in front of the dolphins.

The Animal areas of Zoomarine Torvaianica, one by one

The park states that it has over 400 animals belonging to about 40 species. The animal areas are set within a landscaped layout built with Mediterranean scrub plants, holm oaks, myrtles, pines, shrubs that resist salt spray, and heavy planting that in 20 years has become real shade. In the first summer, in 2005, that plateau was almost bare.

Dolphin Island and the Dolphin Stadium

This is the historic heart of Zoomarine Torvaianica and the reason the park made Italian news. It is home to bottlenose dolphins, Tursiops truncatus, the most common dolphin species in marine parks around the world. The park presents itself as the Italian zoo with the largest number of dolphins. The daily demonstration takes place in the stadium, with times that in the full-season schedule fall around 12:00 and 16:00, and a maxi screen that since 2016 lets you follow the details even from the high stands. Sit on the right as you face the pool: the afternoon light comes from behind and won't blind you.

The Pinniped Bay

Grey seal, Halichoerus grypus, and California sea lion, Zalophus californianus. Telling the two groups apart is the first thing to teach a child before going in: the sea lion has external ear flaps and walks by supporting itself on its front flippers, while the seal doesn't, and on land it drags itself along. Watch them move and the lesson teaches itself. In March 2026 a grey seal pup was born here, news that agencies picked up because it coincided with the park's change of management.

Penguin Beach

Set up in 2015 behind the pinniped stadium, it is home to African penguins, Spheniscus demersus. This is no small detail: the African penguin is classified as critically endangered, the wild population on the coasts of South Africa and Namibia has collapsed over the course of a century, and the park's animals take part in conservation programs coordinated by the European association of zoos and aquariums. This is the area where the park's educational side holds up best against the facts.

The Parrot Forest and the Tropical Aviary

Sun parakeets, Aratinga solstitialis, which are also in a risk category, lesser flamingos, Phoeniconaias minor, ibises, cranes. You walk through the tropical aviary, and the parrot demonstration takes place in the early afternoon. Anyone patient enough to stop near the flamingos' nesting areas sees something you don't see at the dolphin stadium: animals doing what they would do anyway, with no one asking them to.

The Birds of Prey Plain and the Natura Amphitheater

Launched in 2007, moved in 2010 next to the 4D Cinema to make room for the water park, it now runs at the Natura Amphitheater. In flight you can see barn owls, Tyto alba, eagle owls, Bubo bubo, Cape eagle owls, Bubo africanus, peregrine falcons, Falco peregrinus, Harris's hawks, Parabuteo unicinctus, and the red-legged seriema, Cariama cristata, a South American wading bird that kills snakes by smashing them against rocks and that almost nobody in Italy has ever seen live. The peregrine falcon that passes a meter and a half over your heads is usually the moment children remember more than the dolphins.

The Tortoise Oasis

Founded in 2016 as a small garden for African spurred tortoises, Centrochelys sulcata, the third largest land tortoise in the world and a species classified as threatened. The meeting with the biologists, called "A passo di testuggine," is repeated several times a day.

The Lemur Garden and the Land of the Alpacas

Ring-tailed lemurs, Lemur catta, with the ringed tail everyone recognizes from cartoons, and the alpaca area, where capybaras, Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris, the largest rodent on the planet, have arrived since September 2026. The park has built an entire campaign around the capybaras, with dedicated meetings and themed shows: it's the novelty of the season, and on weekends it draws lines.

The Lakes Walkway

The water route between the animal areas, with the waterbirds. It's the part visitors rush through to get from one show to the next, and it deserves a slow 20 minutes instead, ideally mid-morning, when everyone else is still queuing at the ticket office.

The Animals of Zoomarine Torvaianica: Where They Come From and What the Sources Say

When it comes to a park that keeps dolphins in tanks, it's best to lay out the facts and leave the judgment to the reader, because the facts exist and can be checked by both sides.

What the park states: all the animals housed here were born in controlled environments, at Zoomarine Torvaianica or in other zoological facilities, and no animal has been taken from its natural habitat. The facility is a member of the European association of zoos and aquariums and of the European association for marine mammals, takes part in European conservation programs for the African penguin, the African tortoise and the sun conure, and declares non-invasive behavioral and biological research on its own animals. In 2009 Zoomarine Torvaianica became the first Italian facility to obtain recognition as a zoo under the national regulation that implements the European zoo directive, and that recognition brings obligations of education, research and conservation, not only of welfare.

What the park does in the scientific field, as documented: collaboration with universities and research bodies, conferences and training courses organized with the Lazio Region, including the specialized training course titled "Cetaceans, Emergencies, Interventions and Epidemiology", aimed at staff of the protected areas, the Capitanerie di Porto and the Vigili del Fuoco of Lazio, and the courses run together with the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale del Lazio e della Toscana for ASL veterinarians on the topic of beachings, such as the one on health surveillance of cetaceans and marine turtles stranded along Italian coasts on December 13, 2013. The in-house veterinary clinic also works on wild animals in rehabilitation.

What the associations that challenge the model say: the LAV has been running a campaign against Italian dolphinariums for years and has achieved a precise court result. On May 9, 2019 the TAR of Lazio annulled the interministerial decree of December 20, 2017 that had introduced an exemption to the ban on public swimming in dolphin tanks, an exemption justified by educational and awareness-raising aims. With that annulment the ban came fully back into force for all Italian dolphinariums. The same association has published investigations into the conditions of dolphins at Zoomarine Torvaianica and other facilities, and argues that no enclosure can give a cetacean the range of movement and the social structure it would have at sea.

Our judgment: the bird section and the one dedicated to tortoises, penguins and small mammals at Zoomarine Torvaianica holds up in comparison with any serious Italian zoo, and the clinic and veterinary training are a real contribution. The dolphin tank remains the point on which the discussion is open and legitimate, in Italy as in the rest of Europe. If the issue weighs on you, the park can be visited perfectly well by skipping the bottlenose dolphin show: nobody is making you go into the stadium, and the day still holds up.

Who Runs Zoomarine Torvaianica Today

Ownership has changed three times in 20 years and the third time is very recent. The park was born in 2005 on the initiative of the Portuguese-Argentine company Mundo Aquático, which already had a facility of the same name in the Algarve. In August 2015 it passed to the Mexican group Dolphin Discovery, later merged into The Dolphin Company, the largest operator of marine parks in the Americas. On March 31, 2025 The Dolphin Company filed in the United States for creditor protection under Chapter 11 of the American bankruptcy law, a step that involved the whole group. On March 23, 2026 the operational management of Zoomarine Torvaianica passed to Openature, the Piedmontese company that already runs the Zoom bioparco in Turin and the Parco Natura Viva on Lake Garda: the group's third facility in less than two years, 150 employees confirmed, about 500,000 visitors a year. The chief executive Umberto Maccario stated the intention to evolve the spaces and experiences toward biodiversity conservation themes. What that means in concrete terms for the dolphin tank, nobody has yet put in writing.

The Water Park and Pools of Zoomarine Torvaianica

The water section has grown in layers since 2009 and is today the main reason a Roman family comes back here instead of going to the sea.

Cancun Pool

The family pool, with different depths, slides, music and entertainment. It is the center of gravity of the summer day and the point where the group of teenagers dissolves and disappears until dinner time. In the afternoon it hosts entertainment with a DJ set.

Punta Cana Pool

A tropical oasis with sand and water games calibrated for small children. Shallow water, constant supervision, sand that burns at noon: bring flip-flops, it's not a detail.

Malibù Water Park

Four slides, among spirals and a Kamikaze that remains the steepest in the facility. Here you also find the coat check with lockers, at the cost indicated by the park of €5.

Acquasplash Hawaii and the Pirates' Cove

Two water playgrounds, opened in 2016 and 2017 respectively: sprays, tipping buckets, short slides, the pirate scenery. They are designed for the four to nine age range, and that is where children should be left to burn off energy before the birds of prey demonstration, not after.

Beaches, Oases and Sun Decks

Zoomarine Beach, the tropical sand beach that arrived in 2011, has remained the park's best idea: real sand, palm trees, a strip of the Caribbean 20 minutes from the Pontina. The park lists free sun deck areas, "Oasi" stations with umbrella and loungers starting at €6 and beach areas starting at €10, with a price list for umbrellas and loungers that starts at €8. Anyone who arrives early finds shade without paying. Anyone who arrives at 11 pays.

The Rides and Mechanical Attractions of Zoomarine Torvaianica

The amusement park counts about 20 installations, accumulated over 20 years and renewed in waves. It's worth knowing them by name, because the paper map lists them and the kids demand them all.

The First-Generation Attractions

The Blue River, the log ride with the final splash, and the horse carousel date from 2005, that is, from the opening season. The Harakiri is the dry slide that convinced the first teenagers to consider Zoomarine Torvaianica a place for them and not just for their younger siblings. The 4D Cinema arrives in 2009 together with the Drop Zone, the free-fall tower, which stayed in service until 2013.

Vertigo, Squalotto and the roller coaster season

2010 brings Vertigo, the facility's first roller coaster, and 2011 the Squalotto, the coaster for the youngest kids. They're two modest rides by the standards of the big theme parks, and anyone coming from a comparison with the giants will be disappointed. Here they serve to give the day a different rhythm, not to make you scream.

Dark rides and themes

L'era dei dinosauri, a dark ride opened in 2011, was for years the most requested indoor attraction on rainy days. The prehistoric theme has since grown into the park's summer identity, with the Cala Preistorica, Piazza Zoorassica and the diver show. Il Galeone Maledetto is the haunted house with a pirate theme, and the Laguna dei Pirati, set up in 2012, is the water-jet naval battle where you get soaked even if you just watch from the bridge.

Volo del Falco, Formula Segway, Surf and Camelot

2017 is the year of the renewal of the park's visual identity and of five new features all at once: the guided interactive programs with the pinnipeds and the forest adventure, the Volo del Falco, which is a zip line above the treetops, the Formula Segway and the Covo dei Pirati. The Surf, that is the artificial wave machine, and the Acqua Splash had arrived the year before, together with the giant screen at the dolphin stadium, while the Laghetto dei Pellicani and the old Playground were being removed. In 2022 the Camelot playground opens.

The daily schedule at Zoomarine Torvaianica

The daily schedule is the key to the visit. If you ignore it, you end up walking three useless kilometers. In peak season, with the park open from 10:00 to 19:00, the animal shows are spread out like this: the birds of prey at the Anfiteatro Natura between 11:00 and 16:30, seals and sea lions at the Baia dei Pinnipedi between 11:30 and 17:00, the dolphins at the Dolphin Stadium between 12:15 and 16:00, and the parrots at the Foresta dei Pappagalli between 13:00 and 15:00. The meetings with biologists have their own times: "A passo di testuggine" at the Oasi delle Testuggini at 10:30, 14:30 and 16:30, "Nel mondo di pinguini e pinnipedi" at 12:30, 15:00 and 17:30, and "Conosci i capibara" at the Terra degli Alpaca at 10:30 and 15:45. The diver show at the Cala Preistorica goes on stage at 13:30, 15:30 and 18:15, while the animation by the Zoorassic Crew takes over the Piscina Cancun from 14:15 and the Piscina Malibù from 16:25. Times change with the calendar. The day's program is posted on the park's events portal that same morning.

Where to eat inside Zoomarine Torvaianica

Six refreshment points, split between restaurants and kiosks. La Taverna La Famiglia serves traditional cuisine with a full menu of first course, second course and side dish, and it is also home to the Baby Pit Stop, a microwave oven for warming baby bottles, and high chairs. A Tutta Pasta focuses on Roman cuisine. Lo Zoorassico Pizza&Grill, with a dinosaur theme, serves pizza, grilled meat and fast service, and it's the place to have dinner on summer evenings. Il Ristoro della Foresta is the burger and sandwich line. The Malibù Cafè and Cancun Cafè kiosks, at the edge of the pools, sell sandwiches, snacks and ice cream. Practical tip: have lunch at 12:00 or 14:30, never at half past 12, when the dolphin show ends and 2000 people have the same idea at the same moment.

Services and accessibility at Zoomarine Torvaianica

The park lists free wheelchair rental at the infirmary near the entrance, and free loan of sensory vests for deaf visitors, by advance booking. It's a service that few in Italy offer, and it deserves to be known. There are toilets with changing tables inside the zoological park, high chairs at Taverna La Famiglia and A Tutta Pasta, and a cloakroom with lockers at the Malibù pool for €5. For parking, spaces are provided in a large internal area. Rates should be checked on the official website before you leave, because they don't appear on the general information pages. For those who want to split the day in two, the park sells packages that combine two days of entry and one night in a partner hotel, listed from €63.

Zoomarine Torvaianica with kids

It's the audience the park is built for, and it works well from ages three to 12. Under three, it's best to focus on Punta Cana, the Oasi delle Testuggini and the aviary, and skip the rides. From four to nine, the Covo dei Pirati and the Acquasplash Hawaii are worth half a day on their own. From 10 up, you need Vertigo, the Volo del Falco and the Laguna dei Pirati to keep attention high. The mistake I see most often is planning everything: two animal demonstrations and a meeting with the biologists are the most a six-year-old really absorbs in a day, and the rest is free time and water. If you're looking for other family-friendly destinations in the same price range, you can look at the Bioparco di Roma, which is a historic zoo with a different approach, or at the Museo Civico di Zoologia for rainy days.

Summer Nights and evening events at Zoomarine Torvaianica

From June to mid-September the park extends its hours until 22:00 with a calendar of evenings: Saturdays in June, then Thursday through Sunday in July and August, until mid-September. In the evenings the animal areas stay open until 20:00, the rides until 21:30, and the pools and water park until 20:00. Evening entry starts at 17:00 at a rate starting from €9. The program includes dinner under the stars, shows, entertainment, and talks by the biologists at sunset, with guests for the kids' audience on the main dates. In autumn comes the Family Oktoberfest, three evenings until 22:00 with live music, Bavarian food, beer, workshops and a bubble show dedicated to capybaras. Evening entry is the best value for money of the whole Zoomarine Torvaianica offer, and almost nobody knows it.

What's around Zoomarine Torvaianica

The visit lends itself to being extended, because the coastline around here has more than the Pontina leads you to imagine. Torvaianica is a beach resort born from the twentieth-century land reclamation, with a very long beach of dark sand, a few minutes from the park gate. Heading south you reach Ardea, with the Museo Giacomo Manzù, and then Anzio and Nettuno, which are worth a whole day of contemporary history on their own. Heading north, past the pine woods, the Tenuta di Castelporziano begins, and farther on the Pineta di Castel Fusano, with Ostia Antica closing off the archaeological front. Inland from Pomezia there remains a curious geothermal relic, the Solfatara di Pomezia. If you are looking for a direct alternative in the form of an amusement park, you'll find it at Magicland, in Valmontone, with a completely different approach, and among the other parks in the province, including the Laghetto dell'Eur for an urban afternoon at no cost.

Zoomarine - Torvaianica
Zoomarine, Torvaianica

A Curiosity About Zoomarine Torvaianica

The name is neither Roman nor Italian. Zoomarine started as a brand of the company Mundo Aquático, which has run the park of the same name in the Algarve, Portugal, for many years, and which also signed off on the Mediterraneo Marine Park in Malta. The Torvaianica park, opened in September 2005, is the Italian twin of that Atlantic facility: same setup, same name, same idea of mixing a marine mammal pool, aviaries, rides and swimming pools into a single ticket. That's why the park layout looks little like a classic European zoo and a lot like a coastal theme park. It's an Iberian model transplanted into the Agro Romano.

The second part of the story is about the land. 40 hectares between the Pontina highway and the sea, in an area that was marshland until the 1930s and that the reclamation of the Agro Pontino turned into cultivated countryside. Torvaianica as a beach resort is an invention of the postwar period. When the park opened in 2005, the trees were just freshly planted sticks and there was no shade: photos from the first season show a pale, bare plateau. The Mediterranean scrub that today covers the Passeggiata dei Laghetti and the animal areas is all recent planting, grown up together with the park. It's one of the few chances to see with your own eyes what 20 years does to a coastal holm oak grove.

One Thing Nobody Tells You About Zoomarine Torvaianica

The cheapest and most pleasant ticket isn't the daytime one, but the evening one. From June to mid-September, on the dates in the Summer Nights calendar, you can enter from 17:00 at a rate starting from 9 euros, and the park stays open until 22:00. At five in the afternoon the heat has broken, the turnstile lines are gone, the animal areas stay open until 20:00 and the rides until 21:30. You miss the midday dolphin show, which is the least interesting because the light is overhead and the pool glares, but you get the last meeting with the biologists, the 18:15 Cala Preistorica, and a sunset over the aviaries that midday photos don't capture.

The second thing nobody mentions is the pool supplement. It costs 3 euros and seems like nonsense, but the water area closes the season several weeks before the rest of the park. This season, for example, the park is open every day until September 13 while the pools last until the 20th. Buying the supplement on a date when the pools are closed is a mistake people make only once, and nobody at the ticket counter will point it out. Check the calendar and buy online: the two-day formula starts at 16 euros versus 26 euros for the single ticket at the box office, and for a family of four the difference pays for lunch.

The Advice I Give You for Visiting Zoomarine Torvaianica

Arrive at opening, at 10:00, and do the opposite of everyone else. The crowd comes in and heads straight for the pools or the dolphin stadium, you turn right and spend the first hour and a half on the animal areas, when the animals are active, the light is low and the paths are quiet. The Oasi delle Testuggini at 10:30, the capybara encounter at the same time if you're a pair and can split up, then the tropical aviary and the Passeggiata dei Laghetti at a leisurely pace. At 11:00 you're at the Anfiteatro Natura for the birds of prey, which is the best demonstration in the park and the one almost everyone skips. At 12:15 the dolphins, if you want to see them. From 13:00 on, the park turns into a pool with extras, and that's perfectly fine: eat early, grab a patch of shade and stay in the water until 16:00, when the second round of shows starts and the crowd is already retreating.

Bring from home a hat, flip-flops, two towels each and a dry T-shirt for the ride back: Zoomarine Torvaianica is a park with no natural shade over large stretches, and in July the plateau bakes. Closed shoes are needed for the rides and for the Anfiteatro Natura, so a change is a must. If you have kids under six, my clear opinion is this: give up half the program from the start. Two shows, one meeting with the biologists, a water playground and that's it. A successful day isn't the one where you saw everything, it's the one you leave without fighting in line at the Laguna dei Pirati at six in the afternoon.

Another well-known fact, yet rarely mentioned

That all the animals housed here were born in controlled environments, here or at other zoological facilities, and none were caught in the wild: the park has declared it from the start, the line has appeared in its communications for years, yet in the bar-room debate about dolphinariums it is systematically ignored. It's a fact that doesn't close the discussion, it shifts it: the question isn't whether a bottlenose dolphin was torn from the sea, but whether it's acceptable to breed and raise generations of cetaceans in tanks. These are two different ethical questions and they should be kept separate.

The second little-cited fact concerns the public service role of the facility. The in-house veterinary clinic and the scientific staff of Zoomarine Torvaianica have over the years trained operators from the protected areas, the Capitanerie di Porto, the Vigili del Fuoco del Lazio and ASL veterinarians on managing strandings of cetaceans and sea turtles, in courses organized with the Lazio Region and with the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale del Lazio e della Toscana. When a sperm whale runs aground on the shoreline of Fiumicino or Sabaudia, whoever intervenes has often learned the protocol in a classroom behind the aviaries of Torvaianica. It's not an argument in favor of dolphinariums, it's a verifiable fact that belongs in the overall balance and that few put on the table.

The right photo to take at Zoomarine Torvaianica

It's not the dolphin in mid-air: everyone takes that picture, it comes out blurred nine times out of 10, and the white water of the splash blows out the highlights. The right photo at Zoomarine Torvaianica is taken at the Anfiteatro Natura, at the bottom of the stands, with a telephoto lens or with the phone zoom pushed to maximum optical, at the moment the peregrine falcon or the Harris's hawk passes low over the heads of the audience: pine trees as background, wings spread, and the faces of the kids in the front row inside the frame. Set burst mode and a fast shutter speed, at least a thousandth of a second, and accept throwing away 30 to keep one.

The second shot I recommend is of a completely different kind: the Spiaggia dei Pinguini in the 18:00 light of a summer evening, when the low sun cuts across the sand and the African penguins line up in a row along the water's edge. It's the photo that tells the story of the park better than any slide, and it explains to people watching from home why a critically endangered species ended up 20 kilometers from the Raccordo Anulare. Third option, for those who love details: the tropical aviary from the inside, with the sun conure in the foreground, taking advantage of the diffuse light under the netting. Avoid flash everywhere: in the Animal areas it disturbs the animals, and in the covered arenas it doesn't reach its destination anyway.

Some important events that happened here in history

The first is the opening itself, in September 2005: a private marine park built from scratch on the Lazio coast, in a country that had very few dolphinariums and none of that size. The second is 2009, the year the facility became the first in Italy to receive formal recognition as a zoological garden under the regulation that transposes the relevant European directive: an administrative step that imposed obligations for research, education and conservation, and that reshaped the identity of the place.

The third is the growth in the years that followed. In 2011 the park announced that attendance had tripled in less than three years, rising from about 220,000 visitors to more than 700,000, placing it at the top of Italian amusement parks for attendance. Today the figure reported by the new owner is about 500,000 visitors a year, a sign that the peak of those years was exceptional and not structural.

The fourth event is legal and concerns the entire sector. On May 9, 2019, the TAR del Lazio annulled the interministerial decree of December 20, 2017, which, as an exception, allowed the public to swim in the pools with the dolphins. The appeal had been filed by LAV, and the annulment restored the ban for all Italian dolphinariums. The fifth is financial: on March 31, 2025, The Dolphin Company, the American group that owned the park, filed for creditor protection in the United States. The sixth closes the circle: on March 23, 2026, operational management passes to the Italian group Openature, and in those same weeks a gray seal pup is born in the Baia dei Pinnipedi, an image the news agencies used to tell the story of the turning of the page.

Who Has Come Through Zoomarine Torvaianica

The park doesn't have a history of illustrious Grand Tour visits, for obvious reasons of age: it's 20 years old, not 2,000. The people who actually came through, and who matter, fall into three categories. The first is the founders and operators: the company Mundo Aquático, which brought the model of its Portuguese park in the Algarve here, the Mexican group Dolphin Discovery, later The Dolphin Company, which acquired the facility in August 2015 and placed it in the largest network of marine parks on the American continent, and, from March 23, 2026, Openature, the company that runs the Zoom biopark in Turin and the Parco Natura Viva, with CEO Umberto Maccario, who announced a development of the spaces in the direction of biodiversity conservation.

The second category is technical and scientific, and it's the most interesting: operators of protected areas in Lazio, staff of the Capitanerie di Porto, Vigili del Fuoco, regional ASL veterinarians, and university researchers. They came through here for courses on cetacean emergencies and strandings, organized with the Regione Lazio and the Istituto Zooprofilattico Sperimentale del Lazio e della Toscana, including the December 13, 2013 course on health surveillance of cetaceans and sea turtles stranded along Italian coasts.

The third category is children's entertainment: on summer evenings the park hosts artists who are very well known to the youngest audiences, and this season's lineup has brought Ninna e Matti to the stage on July 5, Lucilla on July 19, and Salvo e Giorgia on August 9. Add the 500,000 visitors who pass through the turnstiles every year and the 150 employees who work there: that is the real crowd that has come through Zoomarine Torvaianica, far more than any famous name.

What is the difference between Zoomarine Torvaianica and the Bioparco di Roma

The Bioparco is a historic zoo inside Villa Borghese, founded in 1911, with no marine mammals, no carousels and no pools, and it can be visited in half a day. Zoomarine Torvaianica is a mixed facility covering 40 hectares outside the city, with dolphins, a water park and mechanical rides, and it requires a full day and a car.

Is it worth buying the ticket online

Yes, for two reasons: the advance price is lower than the price at the box office, and you avoid the ticket counter line, which on Sundays in July is the worst part of the day. The purchase has to be made on the park's official website.

Can you visit Zoomarine Torvaianica in the evening too

Yes, on the dates of the Summer Nights calendar between June and mid-September, with entry from 17:00 and closing at 22:00, and on the Family Oktoberfest evenings in autumn. It's the cheapest option and the most enjoyable.

Is the park suitable for teenagers

Partly. The roller coasters are modest and the shows are aimed at younger children, but the water park, slides, Volo del Falco and Laguna dei Pirati keep a 14-year-old busy for a full day. Under 12, the park is at its best.

One last observation: Zoomarine Torvaianica should be taken for what it is, a mixed park built for families and not a scientific aquarium or a European-scale theme park. Visited with a plan in hand, arriving at opening or at five in the afternoon, it gives back much more than its reputation suggests. Visited at random on a Sunday in August, it gives back lines, sun on your head and a heavy bill at the kiosk. The difference between the two days isn't made by the park: you make it the night before, by reading the calendar.
