A new production by the company Chille de la balanza, resident for more than 25 years in the former psychiatric hospital of San Salvi in Florence. The title is simple, direct, necessary: “UMANI. Questo volevo che capiste.” (Humans, this is what I wanted you to understand.) It comes from the paintings, drawings and diaries of Francesco Romiti, an extraordinary outsider artist: some of his works have been shown at the prestigious Trinkhall Museum in Liège, where this show will also be presented in December.
The stated aim is to help bring about, or rediscover, a community aware of the importance of being human, today more than ever put at risk by social depersonalization and cultural homogenization.
Inspired by the works and writings of Romiti, “UMANI…” moves between different languages: theater, music, video, sound, painting and play, in the tradition of an art that breaks disciplinary cages. This is the hallmark of the company Chille de la balanza and of the figure of Romiti: a bridge between tradition and the contemporary, an artist on the margins but never marginal, a dissonant and deeply necessary voice.
