DIGITALATIUM by Fotonica Festival ::: The Works of the Festival :::

::: Visual Fracture by Radu Negut | AV Performance :::

Visual Fracture is a visual performance that explores the digital decay of reality through glitch art and slit-scan photography. Using real-time distortions, warped pixels and stretched-time effects, Fracture immerses the audience in a world where every frame stretches and deforms, and fragmented images shift and pulse, creating an environment that is hyperreal as well as dreamlike. The performance embodies a fragmented digital consciousness, revealing how moments, memories and identities shatter and merge in a hyperconnected world full of glitches.

::: Green Eye Sight by Jamila Campagna (Visual Artist) and Mirjana Nardelli (electronic musician) | AV Performance :::

The sounds of nature become abstract, the crackling and rustling of leaves turn into metallic sounds, creating a connection between the material and the immaterial in which the very perception of the transparency of a leaf touched by a ray of sun is completely distorted, as if it came from another universe.

::: Sagittarius A* by Livia Rib | AV Installation :::

Sagittarius A* is a repetitive, constantly evolving composition that transcends norms. Its synesthetic and minimal rhythm and its fusion with light and sound induce a state of trance and expand our senses through glitch aesthetics. This creates an indefinite domain in which the viewer takes a meditative journey, a black hole in constant becoming and constant redefinition.

::: HUMAN|NATURE by Elyo | AV Installation :::

Man, nature and silence: the installation was born in 2020, right after the global pandemic, with the cities emptied. Man seemed to be “dematerialized” and, before people began to talk about the pandemic, public opinion was completely focused on climate change. Everything seemed traceable to man and nature, everything is a HUMAN|NATURE. This conceptual opposition is heightened through the choice of saturated colors and the black and white contrast, accompanied by a reflective and growing sound. The result is a visual and sonic experience that highlights the evident differences and the consequences of this duality, distant but at the same time close.

::: Deconstruction by Ruben Jaime Papacci | AV Installation :::

Deconstruction is an immersive installation that turns high-resolution scans into dynamic particles, using a generative algorithm. These particles continuously change their state, creating an ever-evolving visual experience. By tracking the movement of the viewer’s head, the installation repositions the view of the particles on three axes, offering a unique and personalized perspective for each viewer.

::: Journey into Dante’s Inferno with Augmented Reality by B-VISIONARY | AR Installation :::

Journey into Hell with Augmented Reality is an interactive multimedia experience that invites the audience to explore the first canto of Dante Alighieri’s Inferno from the Divine Comedy in an innovative and engaging way. The installation includes 24 images created using artificial intelligence techniques, each one representing one of the tercets of the first canto of the poem. These images were made to carry the audience into the dark and captivating world described by Dante through the use of Augmented Reality. With this installation, the audience will travel together with the poet through Hell, living his visions and emotions firsthand, thus offering an innovative and contemporary interpretation of a classic of world literature, making Dante’s work accessible and engaging for the modern audience.

::: Sol & Mass by Matteo Fiocchetti | AV Installation :::

The power of the individual in the community is made tangible through sound. The variations of light and shadow, generated by the individuals inside an environment, will shape the sound. In a room lit by candles, photoresistors will sense the slight fluctuations of light and turn them into sound. This will create a completely silent environment. The presence of individuals in the environment will gradually disturb this calm, leading to chaos. The individuals will then tend to move away and everything will return to a state of calm, creating a continuous cycle, a metaphor for the world itself.

::: Stream This by Blivet | AV Installation :::

Stream This is an interactive multimedia installation that uses the latest technology for real-time image generation with artificial intelligence, to transform the appearance of people and of the surrounding images. The installation consists of a central workstation, equipped with a high-quality webcam and a large screen, where visitors can experience a visual transformation through the use of a webcam and AI technology. This instant transformation offers an immersive and fascinating experience in which the audience itself generates the visual result of the installation, making each experience unique and personal, exploring the infinite possibilities of the imagination.

::: IMPACT by Stefano Sbrulli | AV Installation :::

Impact is an interactive installation based on Stefano Sbrulli’s reportage on the mines for the extraction of raw materials in Peru. The installation wants to reflect on the impact our society has from the social, environmental and economic point of view, and on all those aspects that we often tend to underestimate. The viewer will watch footage on a phone placed on a pedestal, which distorts as you get closer, revealing video and audio recordings made in the Cerro de Pasco mine in Peru.

::: Connected Reflections by Mel | VR Installation :::

Connected Reflections is a solitary space in which to reflect and get lost, made for virtual reality with the use of Unity (a real-time 3D development platform for creating games and simulations). The immersive social platform Spatial will let users create and take part in immersive experiences in real time, accessible on web, mobile and VR, where the path of Connected Reflections begins. The experience is accompanied by the music of Tander (Simone Giudice, 1996), an experimental musician, from his album Identityless.

::: Concrete Casings by Touchy Toy Collective | AV performance :::

The outskirts of Rome are dotted with intentions and ideas that were never carried through. Illegal construction, rigged contracts and neglect have led to the proliferation of abandoned building sites, destined to remain an indelible testimony of those mistakes. These crumbling exoskeletons are memories, like fossils of past eras. The unfinished structures, left incomplete, tell stories of broken promises and shattered dreams. Instead of being lively and thriving, the outlying neighborhoods host these carcasses of concrete and steel that degrade the urban environment and scar the landscape. Every abandoned building carries with it a narrative of corruption and inefficiency, a story of betrayed hopes and wasted resources. The rusted scaffolding and the unfinished walls are silent monuments to mismanagement, a perpetual warning about the consequences of greed and negligence. These urban skeletons, though motionless and silent, cry out a reality too often ignored. They are the tangible proof of a system that needs deep reform and a new vision, one that can turn intentions into completed actions and give dignity and beauty back to the outskirts of Rome.

::: Audio Visual Exhibitions and Live Performances :::

The best emerging talents of audiovisual art come together in a single unmissable event, in which art meets distorted pixels and dreamlike realities.
After the success of Visual Sound, the first festival devoted to contemporary audiovisual art for artists under 35, Digitalatium arrives from November 22 to December 21, an international stage for the emerging talents of digital art from Lazio.
From an idea of the collective Flyer New Media, organizer of Fotonica, the capital’s festival-event that for eight years has explored the intersection between images and sounds in digital art in Rome, and with the support of Regione Lazio and many international partners, Digitalatium showcases the region’s young artists with a tour that has touched five foreign countries, namely Greece, Poland, Egypt, Spain and Palestine, and ends in Italy with an immersive exhibition scheduled at the Nuovo Cinema Aquila from November 22 to December 21. On the closing day, Saturday, December 21, a live performance is scheduled inside the evocative Chromosphere Dome, the only immersive dome in the capital, which audiences can then experience again with Fotonica, scheduled in Rome from December 13 to 21.
The Chromosphere Dome, located in the heart of Rome’s Casilino district, has a geodesic shape 14 meters wide and a screen that, with its projectors, recreates a dome inside the same architectural structure that houses it: a shape that will let viewers immerse themselves completely in the sounds and colors of the realities created by 10 young emerging audiovisual artists.
The festival embraces all the facets of digital art and offers a program that includes, at the Nuovo Cinema Aquila, an exhibition from November 22 to December 21 and an evening of live performances on November 23, which will offer the audience an environment of exchange and artistic ferment in the name of innovation, with the live performances of Radu Negut with his project Visual Fracture and Jamila Campagna with Green Eye Sight.
On display are the audiovisual projects of Livia Rib with Sagittarius A*, Elyo with HUMAN|NATURE, Ruben Jaime Papacci with Deconstruction, B-VISIONARY with Journey into Dante’s Inferno with Augmented Reality, Matteo Fiocchetti with Sol & Mass, Blivet with Stream This, Stefano Sbrulli with IMPACT and Mel with Connected Reflections.
The Chromosphere Dome, instead, will be the cradle of the closing event curated by the Touchy Toy Collective with their project TTC, a setting in which architecture and technology combine to offer an experience of great emotional and visual value.
Digitalatium is not just an artistic event, but presents itself as a project to promote the Digital Arts and global professional prospects, a concrete opportunity for connection between young talents and international creative networks.
Thanks to the tour and the Roman exhibition, emerging artists can explore new forms of expression and strengthen their professional prospects on a global level.

Digitalatium is carried out under the Lazio Innova project and produced by Flyer New Media (Flyer srl impresa sociale 06589171005, Regione Lazio contribution: €49,665), which accepts and fulfills the obligations set by the Transparency Regulations, with the support of Regione Lazio and many international partners.
