Immagine: culture.roma.itFrom Wednesday, November 4, 2026 to Wednesday, March 31, 2027, the Sala degli Imperatori in Palazzo Nuovo, at Musei Capitolini (Piazza del Campidoglio 1, Rome), hosts the temporary display «Dedica dei Vigili ai Severi. Dalla riscoperta al restauro virtuale», or «Dedication of the Vigiles to the Severans: From Rediscovery to Virtual Restoration». For ticket prices and types, see the dedicated section of the Musei Capitolini website; the information phone line is 060608.

Updated November 3, 2026.
At the center of the display is a bronze plaque carrying the dedication of the Vigiles to the Severans, one of the most important works in the Capitoline epigraphic collections. Beside the original stand two resin 3D prints made from a scan of the work and digitally restored: they show two moments in the object's history, its original configuration of 203 AD, before the damnatio memoriae of Geta, and the version documented in the Museum Chartaceum of 1650.
The title points to the path of the research. The 3D scans and the virtual reunion with the bust of Septimius Severus in the British Museum confirmed that the applique kept in London belongs to the Roman plaque. The project grows out of research led by Professor Dario Calomino of the University of Verona.
The initiative is promoted by Roma Capitale, Department of Culture, with the Sovrintendenza Capitolina ai Beni Culturali; the Department of Cultures and Civilizations of the University of Verona and Zetema take part.
Musei Capitolini face Piazza del Campidoglio, the institutional heart of the city, home to the municipal administration. The Sala degli Imperatori, in Palazzo Nuovo, is the room that hosts the temporary display. On the place, see the pages on Capitoline Museums and on Capitoline Hill; for another exhibition at the same venue there is the page on Il non finito.
