Updated November 6, 2026.
The two acts come from the borderlands between genres. The club describes Splatterpink as one of the most original and radical bands to emerge from Bologna's music scene of the 1990s, founded in 1990 by bassist and singer Diego D'Agata and regarded as a pioneer of Italian jazzcore and math rock. Their sound blends hardcore punk, avant-garde jazz, noise and funk, with odd time signatures, technical virtuosity and surreal or cynical lyrics.
Their recorded history has a recent chapter. In 2020 the French label Skank Bloc Records reissued «ONE», a self-produced cassette from 1992 that documents the band's early years and had never been republished. The reissue holds five tracks: «Fra di noi», «Stai nel canile», «Dromedario», «Jazzy splatter» and «V.I.P.»; «Dromedario» is previously unreleased, recorded in 2020, while the others were recorded in Bologna in February 1992. The early lineup included D. D. Bombay on bass, Metello Orsini on guitar and Alastair Brison on drums.
Alongside them is Manlio Maresca and the Gastric Juice, a project the guitarist founded in 2021 around a small ensemble of changing makeup, with instruments and players rotating. This time Maresca is joined on drums by Giuseppe Salime, and the group brings music that fades into noise and gives voice to the uncertainties of the present. Maresca, born in 1977, is a guitarist, composer and experimental musician, known in the underground as «the wildest guitar player in East Rome». His style joins avant-garde jazz, noise aesthetics and electronics with what he calls a poetics of error.
Trenta Formiche is an ARCI cultural club in the eastern part of Rome, between the Mandrione and Pigneto. It describes itself as a space for alternative, weird music, independent arts, books, encounters and conscious and unconscious experiments, and states that it does not tolerate fascism, racism or sexism. It usually opens Tuesday to Saturday in the evening.
To get oriented in the neighborhood, see the club page, the one on Snodo Mandrione and the guide to Quadraro; the same venue also lists the night Crown Flash and Omis Elegia.
