«Rulli e Cantine» is the festival with which Santa Rufina reopens the doors of the village cellars. The food and wine trail is the thread of the whole event, organized by the Rulli e Cantine association: each cellar offers a specialty of the local tradition. The list includes gnocchi al castrato (with mutton), fregnacce alla sabinese, a soup of cicerchie (grass peas) and chestnuts, polenta, panontella, beans with pork rind, San Martino pizza, roasted chestnuts, arrosticini and fried doughnuts. There is beer, wine and mulled wine, and coffee and amari are available.
The first evening, Friday, November 6, opens with the «Shining Stars» majorettes of Cittaducale. Then the cellars open, accompanied by the folk group «Santarofinari Rulli Rulli», which walks through the streets of the village. The program closes with the music of Nunzio Live and the group Black and White and the show of the illuminated stilt walkers.
On Saturday, November 7, the program changes and also aims at children: in the early afternoon the association and the folk group visit the RSA (care home) of Santa Rufina, then in Piazza Santa Maria del Popolo the theater show «Variety Cartoon Show», made for children and adults, takes the stage. In the evening come aerial dance with the tripod and the Aerealist show, then again open cellars, folklore and music.
On both days two exhibitions can be visited. The first, «Santa Rufina come non l'avete mai vista» («Santa Rufina as you have never seen it»), gathers images and memories of the village and offers a look at the family trees of local families, curated by Antonio and Luciano Falcone. The second, «Musica a manovella, macchine parlanti e grammofoni» («Hand-crank music, talking machines and gramophones»), is curated by Paola Minichetti. In Piazza Santa Maria del Popolo there is also a display of vintage motorcycles and cars.
Santa Rufina is the lowland hamlet of Cittaducale, the town in the province of Rieti located about ten kilometers from the provincial capital, on the Via Salaria. The Cittaducale railway station, on the Terni-Rieti-L'Aquila line, also stands here. Cittaducale is a founded town designed in 1308 on a grid plan.
For the picture of the town there is the Cittaducale page, while for the provincial capital you can start from Rieti; in the same area, another program in the calendar is the Reate Festival 2026.
Friday, November 6, and Saturday, November 7, 2026, ninth edition.
