«il mito è fonte inesauribile di simboli e di storie»
Text from the official Cultura Roma Capitale page (service translation: “myth is an inexhaustible source of symbols and stories”), source
The official presentation starts from a phrase by Cesare Pavese and draws an idea from it: myth is an inexhaustible source of symbols and stories, a way of telling and thinking that leads from the past to the present. In «Odissea, errare è umano» the journey of Ulysses becomes the journey of life, with calm and stormy seas, new encounters and the unknown that frightens.
The title plays on a verb with two meanings. In Italian «errare» is to wander in search of one's own path, but also the possibility of making mistakes. The company says it moves away from philology toward a contemporary interpretation and does not want to reduce Homer's work to a crib sheet, choosing the themes of the Odyssey that still resonate today.
The authors thought above all of kids and teenagers, who stand before the sea of life, ready to set sail. They imagined them as so many misunderstood Telemachuses, as Penelope waiting, as the Lotus-Eaters bewitched by flowers that promise oblivion, listening to the song of love, and they want to encourage them to leave and to overcome the fears that hold them in port.
Two young protagonists move lightly, entering and leaving the work. The text is by Valeria Cavalli, on stage are Giulia Marchesi and Marco Vitiello, with direction and lighting design by Claudio Intropido, project assistant Isabella Perego, sets by Marco Muzzolon and costumes by Francesca Biffi. The production is by Manifatture Teatrali Milanesi.
Teatri in Comune is the network of theaters of Roma Capitale and includes the Teatro del Lido di Ostia, alongside the Teatro Tor Bella Monaca and the Teatro Biblioteca Quarticciolo. The program mixes theater, music, dance, workshops, exhibitions and meetings, with many free events.
SomministrArte is the section for families and young audiences, organized by the Associazione Affabulazione ETS. On the same stage you can find Storia di un No and Una festa bellissima, while among the other events is Spritzalibro.
Admission is free.
