The show is an academic lecture that gradually turns into a stage illusion act. It explores the stories and practices of female bodies that, through vocal techniques, metaphonic phenomena and sound hallucinations, have hacked the languages and devices of dominant knowledge.
Between the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, new technologies for recording and spreading sound made vocal phenomena a field of scientific and spectacular interest. On one side, medical-scientific studies, phoniatric, linguistic and psychoanalytic, classified the female voice by indices of anomaly, hysteria and the occult; on the other, illusionist shows staged the voices of vanished bodies and of nameless subjectivities.
In a performative rewriting of the vocal phenomena tied to spiritism, illusionism and psychoanalysis, the work investigates the voice as an ambiguous instrument of speaking out, between mimetic deception, infiltration and the desire to resist. Research and concept are by Gaia Ginevra Giorgi, who performs with Denise Tosato; the dramaturgical dialogue is by Giada Cipollone. Produced by Extragarbo; running time 50 minutes.
Teatro Torlonia began as a love story: in 1841 Prince Alessandro Torlonia commissioned architect Quintiliano Raimondi to build the hall to celebrate his marriage to Teresa Colonna. Work stopped when the prince died in 1848, and the theater was completed in 1874. It stands in the park of Villa Torlonia, near the Casina delle Civette.
