Illustration generated with artificial intelligence: it is not a photograph of Mattatoio or of the event.«Il cielo è di tutti. Costruttori di Stelle» (“The Sky Belongs to Everyone. Star Builders”) is a playground installation for children and families by the textile artist Mariacarmela Milano, in collaboration with Edoardo Paissan. It is at the Mattatoio in Rome (Piazza Orazio Giustiniani 4, 00153 Rome) from October 30 to November 15, 2026, in the Kids program of Romaeuropa Festival 2026. It is open on long weekends from Friday to Sunday: October 30 to November 1, November 6 to 8 and November 13 to 15, 2026. Admission is free.

«ciò che viene prodotto nei laboratori non rimane un semplice elaborato, ma entra progressivamente a far parte dell’installazione»
Text from the official Romaeuropa Festival 2026 page (service translation: “what is produced in the workshops does not remain a simple piece of work, but gradually becomes part of the installation”), source
At the center of the playground is a large female figure made of fabric, La Grande Notte (“The Great Night”), who welcomes children like a sky to live in. Stretched out in the space, she recalls the ancient goddess Nut, the celestial body that welcomes and generates the stars, and becomes a metaphor for a universe still to be built.
Around the figure three free workshop experiences open up: drawing, embroidering and coloring. In «Costruttori di Stelle» children create stars, dreams and constellations with threads, fabrics, colors and marks, and entrust a wish of their own to the night. The creations do not stay apart. During the days of the festival they enter the work, so the stars multiply and the body of the Night fills with traces.
Mariacarmela Milano is described by the festival as a textile artist, with research that develops in the relationship between body and space. In this work the weave of materials becomes a shared game, in which the work of single participants builds a collective sky.
Unlike shows with replicas at fixed times, the installation is open in continuous time slots: on Fridays from the afternoon until the evening, on Saturdays and Sundays from the morning to late afternoon. The full time slots are on the official festival page, which calls it an installation in continuous evolution.
The Mattatoio area, in the Testaccio district, covers about 25,000 square meters and preserves the nineteenth-century pavilions of the great city slaughterhouse. Since 2018 it has been managed by the Azienda Speciale Palaexpo.
In the same place, on October 28, the screening described in the page on Pianeta Mare Film Lab was scheduled. Among the music and theater events of the festival you can also read the presentation of Romaeuropa Festival 2026.
