The event
The monologue is drawn from Marguerite Yourcenar's «Fuochi» (Fires), written in 1935 and republished at the author's wish, almost unchanged, in 1957. In the proposed dramatization, antiquity and the legend of Clytemnestra cross time through the languages in which they are told: the narrative, the archaic language of Greek songs, that of the Aegean coasts, the language of twentieth-century art music and the Monteverdian one that invented melodrama, gathered into a single metaphysical picture.
The show follows Yourcenar's own indications: each performer's path starts from the careful use of historicized languages to arrive, each time, at the essence of a complex, fervent emotion.
On stage are Lucia Mascino as narrator and the Cappella Musicale of Villa Medici, with Marta Pacifici, mezzo-soprano, Alicija Szydlowska, cello, Fabio Marconetti, harpsichord, and Riccardo Martinini conducting. It is a co-production by Cimamusic, Arteducazione and I Concerti nel Parco, in collaboration with the Académie de France in Rome - Villa Medici.
