Ava Alami is a young singer on the Italian jazz scene and leads a quintet that joins different sound worlds: original compositions, jazz standards and pieces from the Persian tradition. The lineup is completed by Vittorio Esposito on piano and synths, Simone Sansonetti on electric guitar, Giuseppe Romagnoli on double bass and Cesare Mangiocavallo on drums.
In 2024 the singer won the Premio Giovani Visionari and the Premio Isio Saba. She has performed at the Elbphilharmonie in Hamburg, at Villa Rufolo in the Ravello Jazz Festival and at Teatro Ristori in Verona, and has worked with Rita Marcotulli and Dado Moroni, who also plays on her debut album, «Azalea». JazzIT ranked the record among the best of 2024.
The evening is part of the Young Lions cycle at Casa del Jazz.
Casa del Jazz occupies Villa Osio, built in the late 1930s for banker and lawyer Arturo Osio, designed by engineer Cesare Pascoletti, a collaborator of Marcello Piacentini; the park is the work of landscape architect Pietro Porcinai. In the 1980s the property passed to Enrico Nicoletti, a figure of the Banda della Magliana, was seized and then permanently confiscated in 2001 and assigned to the City of Rome. After restoration it reopened in 2005 as Casa del Jazz. At the entrance a plaque made with Libera lists the names of 683 mafia victims from 1893 to 2005. It is now run by the Fondazione Musica per Roma, which also runs the Auditorium Parco della Musica.
For the venue see the page on Casa del Jazz; the same place also lists Beatrice Gatto and Danilo Rea.
